Thanks for making a detailed video. I learned a lot about the fish finder.
Thank You Sir! I really appreciate the way you describe in detail the selection of frequencies for both 2D Sonar and Downscan in relation to "footprint". I look forward to using what I have learned from your video.
Thans for the kind words. Check out how to use a fish finder for a better understanding of the frequencies: czcams.com/video/OkunlSx-_p0/video.html&lc=z22hdxaikpiytnmstacdp433svz1dyez4d1iyuka1v1w03c010c
Mike C Nice!
Been wanting a fish finder/GPS, but with so many options it's hard to decide what to invest in. This is the first video I've found that explained all the settings, what they do and the philosophy behind using them. Great teacher! Thanks for taking the time to explain.
You're welcome. Thanks.
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to go through it. I had no idea about the track back feature. I agree with the commemt below that your video is better than the Lowrance tutorial 😁😐 I picked up a Hook2 5 split shot last week! Keep up the good work
Thanks. I just posted a tutorial video of the hook2 5 split shot.
Another awesome video ! You are a legend and I can't thank u enough . So much better than the Lowrance videos !
thanks, man. just look for those inclines, and you'll start putting more bas in the boat.
Thanks for taking the time to show us how it works and how it looks
Bruce p no problem. This is an older model. The new model is the lowrance hook2. It’s pretty much the same thing. Only one sonar frequency, but it’s a lot better.
Great video explaining the different features and had no idea about the magnetic transducer. Video so much better than instructions!
Jerome Phillips thanks man. I did a video about how to use a fish finder if you’re interested.
Sweet man thanks for this review. I was on the fence but thisbsold me. I'm getting it now!!
Cool video, man. Your did great at explaining the features.
Thank you.
Thank you for going to the time of putting this together. I am about to buy one and your presentation was a great help. Maybe, if you have time you could do a video or recording.
Tom Kelsey I have a couple. Look at my page for “how to use a fish finder” or “lowrance hook catching bass.” If you’re going to buy one now, they have new models called lowrance hook2. I made a review and how to use it. Thanks.
Nice job buddy! I’ve been trying to decide on a new fish finder for my boat 👌
There are alot of fishfinder videos, this video is one of best ones. Thanks!
Madis thanks, man. Good luck.
Madis check out my video of how to use a fish finder.
A few of my friends and i are getting involved in a fish survey in Oregon (can't say where)....im the only one with a hook 7 ...love this thing..i always remove it from my boat put it in an ammo box...then put my keys in the box the night before that way i cant forget it....another thing i do is carry several rolls of black tape ....so i wrap up the broken fishing line with the tape it works really well and protects the birds and wildlife....then at the end of the day i just put it in the garbage can at the dock...its a win win for everyone.....keep up the great work
Thanks.
That was a good run down. Nice job.
I bought a kayak used that already had this fish finder on it with a battery and solar charger. I've fished twice with it, but only in a shallow pond. I've only used it to give me water temp and show depth. I will be using this to dropshot later in the winter and summer when fish hold in deeper water.
good luck.
Real nice review , thanks
I have the hook 9 and love it..great units for that price point
Nathaniel Mulcahy yeah, if you know how to use a fish finder, they’re great.
Nathaniel Mulcahy just got the 9
The_guy_that_brake_checks_ Jerkoffs they don’t make the hook 9 any more. The discontinued it. they make hook 2x now with a triple shot and split shot. The hook 2 9x retails for 800 on Amazon. I don’t think there’s a considerable difference between the size 9 and 7. I guess it depends how much money you have. If you can throw around a lot of cash, grab a 9. If not, you’d be fine with a 7. Also, if you have cash, consider a touch screen unit such as the elite or HDS. However you’ll be fine with a hook.
Does it have a ice flasher mode? Can this model be used for ice fishing?
Nice dude. I hope it worked out.
Good Job.
I have the Hook 7 as well. I usually fish the Coronado Islands in Mexico, just south of San Diego. The unit works well in anything under 200-250 feet. I keep mine in downscan mode when fishing and chart mode when traveling. Open ocean in anything deeper than 250 feet, it's no good.
apparently only downscale would work at those depths, but I wouldn't know. I don't fish salt water.
You were moving forward and you went back through history to mark. I'd say it was accurate.
Great job dude !!
This will be my 1st fish finder... how long is the transducer cable that comes with the unit?
mine will be here this wensday got it on sell for 300 I'm a striper guide and bass fisherman I know it will be a game changer
Cody Rumfield nice. Good luck this season. If you want to know which settings do what, check this video out: czcams.com/video/OkunlSx-_p0/video.html
Good Video Man, I just picked up the same one and its going on my 14' Lowe. Would you recommend mounting on the trolling motor or mount on the back? Iv'e heard on the trolling motor works best but there again I'm sure its personal preference.
Brian White is mount it on the deck. It can get to be a pain in the butt if it’s in the back because you’ll end up pusshing your boat backwards.
Brian White check out my how to use a fish finder video if you don’t have an understanding of fish finder units.
I misunderstood. I would mount it on the back. That way, when you're cruising, you can still read imaging .
I'm from Maine also, just purchased this hook 7 but having troubles attaching the tripleshot transducer on my trolling motor.. any tips?
I heard you say it is a little slow. I have read reviews that maps can't keep up 20+ mph. Have you had any issues with it not being able to refresh fast enough during travel time?
lr00098 it’s mostly when turning. It’s just a little slow. And actually, I’d say the slower the boat is moving, the slower it can appear to refresh. Also, my boat doesn’t get past 22 mph.
Do you need a chip or something to mark spots? Or can you do that right out of the box with no chip?
just bought one by the way i live in geneseo nice hoodie
Go Knights!
hi mate with the Lowrance Hook²-4x GPS Fish Finder how can i change the saltwater and freshwater settings
I bought a boat with this fish finder and I was wondering if it is compatible with C-Map genesis charts. I downloaded some charts but the unit doesn't see them. I used a 32 Gb Micro SD card and a 8 Gb one. By the way, I updated the fish finder already.
Maybe you can help me out with a Hook7 I have?I purchased a discontinued Navionics Hotmaps chip and put it in and there is no contours showing.Where are your setting at in the chard screen. Not sure if I am missing a setting I should change.Card is supposed to be tested good.thanks
Do you need a card for it or like a sim ? For the lake I’m struggling to get mines to work
Have you ever used another fish finder to compare it to? Or is this your first one? Seems like this is your first one
Yes. First one.
how do you know where to cast? (sorry for my newbiness.)
Depending on your depth, the cone angle when set at 83khz will give you a 1:1 depth to diameter ratio as he explains. So, if you’re in 20 ft of water and your transducer is mounted on the back of your boat you would be looking at a 20ft diameter area to cast directly below the transducer. Some of the more expensive models can actually pick up your fishing line and lure which can help you put your lure/bait exactly where you want it. Not sure if the hook series is capable or not. If not, I’d cast out and reel in making a fan pattern, that way you are most likely to present the bait to the fish.
Just curious on how you’re using it indoors.? I would like to set mine up without going to the boat.
Miguel Etheridge I have it hooked up to my boat battery, and I’m running it on demo mode.
Thanks for your prompt reply. I have ordered an extra power cable so that I can set cords and other stuff at home instead of outside in the 90 temps. Thanks again
No Problem. I had to order extra wire and splice everything.
Bought one
Daniel Mullin awesome. Here’s a video that explains how to use it: czcams.com/video/OkunlSx-_p0/video.html
Good luck.
Is there a way to load my points from cellphone app to unit?
I have no idea. I will try to find out, but it may take some time. Im pretty sure you can use CMAP genesis.
Does it support Structure Scanner?
hello, my hook 7 is so that i constantly have to move my cursor on the chart to follow the boat is there a setting to change so it will automatically stay centered on the screen ?
menu ....return to navigation... enter
@@lylepaulmart1283 Thanks Lyle I went into menu but return to nav doesnt appear anywhere. do i need to go further into another settings screen ?
"return to navigation" doesnt appear
Are yo able to “see” your lure with this unit? Like jigging fro crappie?
Yes
I have this unit but I haven’t been able to figure how to do it 😏
Can I use this for on land GPS?
When y’all are graphing around make sure you aren’t going too fast , even on lower kHz it shouldn’t blow out as much if you are going 3-4 mph
does anyone know how we can see the length of fish in the symbols?
I am pleased you are getting such good results and I wish my unit worked like yours. My experience with the Hook2 12TS is a complete nightmare. The machine shows noise and clutter, it will not find the bottom in 54 or more meters of water (in any mode). Lowrance here in Australia are are diabolical to deal with and terribly unhelpful. As I say, I'm glad you have had a good experience but I would not touch the Hook2 or Lowrance with a barge pole.
Iain R Hanks man. Wish I could help you with your problems.
I set my hook2 up on the boat and it works like a dream.
Check your settings. make sure you're on auto range.
Can you flush mount it?
Rj Rj it comes with a bracket that is flush. you can bolt to deck or dash. If you’re talking about the transducer, id get a plate to mount it on, then bolt the plate to your boat.
the transducer is cheap and weak in critical areas. research !!!
Can you track how to get back to the boat dock
Yes. They are called trails.
I purchased a hook2/ 12 and have no problem with the unit, my bitch is with the transducer! Utterly cheaply built, my 5th time on the water and it broke where it attaches to the mount bracket. NOW lets rest assure I have hit nothing in the water. I own a Ranger and am very careful when maneuvering in tight areas. I did have to run some rough water at Santee Cooper. If that is what broke the xducer then I do not recommend getting one. Lowrance will not honor or replace it, and a new one is 149.99. do some research before you throw a lot of money away.
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens czcams.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
Hook 7 can work with total scan transducer?
Not sure, but I don’t think so
But I really have no idea if that model supports total scan.
@@MaineManBassing read please and tell me what you understand: Lowrance Lowrance HOOK Reveal and HOOK² TripleShot models.
MORE VIEWS: TripleShot transducer gives you DownScan sonar (straight down), SideScan sonar (up to 300' to each side), and CHIRP sonar (fish arch) views.
@@sakissas7975 yeah, but I don’t know if this particular model in this video supports triple shot transducers. If you get the hook 2 or the hook reveal, then yes. But this model in this video is the original hook.
Sorry , my English no good , comes with transducer or not ?
William Junior yes.
Maine Man Bassing thank you , i Will buy
you like this thing
Justin could you some help with my hook 7. If it's not a problem give me a shout. Fred
Fred Lindh what’s up?
Why do you switch your reel in to back reeling mode...? If your drag is correctly set, you shouldn't have to back reel at all...
William Riley I feel like it gives me a lot more control bringing in the fish. It’s also a lot more fun for me. Also, it puts less pressure/stress on the line and the eyes of the pole.
William Riley I'm with you, but a lot of pros would differ.
@@unicornsteaks6769 A little tougher to back reel on a baitcaster tho...
How are you getting the topographical maps on this unit. I have one the hook 7 and still cant find it. All I have showing is the lake no contour lines at all.
bamagent37 you have to buy them from Navionics etc. or you can load them from c-map genesis. Or you can log sonar, upload logs to cmap, then they’ll make it on the social map, then you can download it.
Ok do you have a video on how to do this on the hook 7. Never done it
bamagent37 I don’t have a video. I should make one though. Until then google cmap genesis. You need to register your unit.
Maine Man Bassing ok thanks
Maine Man Bassing Another question the map card that come with the hook 7. Whats on it ? Cause I can be on a lake and pull it out and it looks the same lol
Enjoying himself before he started the cam?
Definitely
you he seems certainly relaxed . Lol good for him
Geneseo? As in suny geneseo in geneseo ny? That's where I live.
Yes. I'm a proud graduate of that school.
I was like no freaking way small world haha. Great area for fishing the finger lakes I love it.
Nice. I never fished up there. My parents are near the city in Middletown. I don't fish there that much though. I really miss Geneseo. Miss that small town feel. I remember one time in Geneseo, I asked this old-timer for directions, and he said something like, "oh, you mean you're going downtown." Ha, didn't know Main street was considered downtown.
Maine Man Bassing the fishing is phenomenal around there but yea it's a nice place that's for sure
That was my first thought too! Go Geneseo! Swimming alum here
It’s a newer model now. A little different.
Dude....appreciate the vid....however....why da heck would u show a segment on the boat fishing but jump back to a table tutorial/review??....Would be better if you showed us Alllll that on the water with real-time examples instead of simulations that as you say don’t do justice...and keeps untimely starting over....now get it together & get back in there kid, show us the way...lead us to victory.... we’re rootin for ya!!....Lol!
TheSilverSurfisher this is a Lowrance HOOK review. I showed those clips to prove I know what I’m talking about and can use the unit effectively. I made a separate video of on water action catching fish I located with the fish finder. I also made a video on how to use a fish finder - how to use the frequencies and settings to optimize your fishing experience.
Maine Man Bassing ok I will search for those vids because this Loweance Fish2 is driving me nuts! I’ve swapped out two of the Fish2 5’s and now I upgraded to a 7 so I can see the stuff on the screen better...but afraid I won’t get that clear, crisp, detailed imaging that everyone on all these videos have...Thanks for the reply and info of your other vids....
TheSilverSurfisher watch my two videos: how to use a fish finder and Lowrance HOOK catching bass. How to use a fish finder will help you more than the hook catching bass. Both are on my CZcams page under how to section.
TheSilverSurfisher also, this is a hook 7, not a Hook2 7. There’s a difference. Completely different models.
Either way, how to use a fish finder will help you use the unit and show you where to look for bass.
video sounds/looks chopy by min 12
this is hard to watch.
Thanks.
Dont give up your day job for public speaking or youtubing
Mark Vogeler don’t give up on graduating charm school.
Sorry
Too painful to watch
