This video is fantastic. I agree, I hate reading manuals so this guy puts together an easy to follow summation that 7 people didn’t appreciate? So eff ‘em, feed ‘em fish heads!
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens czcams.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
The Navionics can definitely cause the mapping screen to lag and you might get white areas on the map as it's trying to load while you are traveling down the lake or river. In this case it helps to zoom out just a little bit. This will usually allow thw mapping to catch up and stop the lagging. The processor in these just isn't fast enough to load the maps when zoomed pretty far in and traveling at higher speeds.
This is the best tutorial on the Hook Series. You explain everything perfectly!!! Your demonstration is clear and logical . THANK YOU!!

@@PikeyAz can't get it to work on my hook reveal 5ss
jesseaz10 try to go to settings,go to chart , pick C map , sometimes on theses units they loses the settings, on the side image your right is on the left , so you do have to go back in and set the options, hope that helps .
im glad i found this video. thanks
Super, the best video on the tube👍
Thanks, very helpful.
Hello, awesome videos. Just purchased the Reavel 7 TS so incredibly useful. Do you have further information on setting up a battery pack power supply for the unit please?

7''x Split Shot .....I knew it had way points but didn't know the hold down the button on the courser thingy..👍... and will be changing my color palette to 13 👊
Thank you so much for this video. Coming from a Garmin & using the Hook for the 1st time today, this video is so helpful!
Well done.
It's probably the best video I've ever seen on how to work a fish finder. Most of the things you explained were things thatother videos skip and just assume you already know, which is never the case for me. So thank you.
The only thing i still cant find a good video on is how to tell what you are seeing on the screen. And most importantly of all, where the stuff on the screen is in relation to your boat. For example, if I see fish on the screen... how would you know where to cast your line to cast to the fish you are seeing?
Im not sure if anymone knows for sure? As i have never seen an explanation to this question yet.
Honestly that's just a really difficult question to answer. Some of it revolves around how fast u are traveling. The other is the fact that it's taking a 3 dimensional area and compressing it into a 2D image. The cone your transducer is picking up is compressed into a flat screen. So technically depending on your depth, the fish can be a certain amount of feet to the right or left of you. Which is really were the side scan comes into play to help determine which side of the boat they are on. It's hard to teach on a video. It's mostly something u can only learn thru trial and error.
hi from Australia, i just bought one of these units today and installed it and your video has helped me immensely, will be going through everything you have pointed out before i hit the water,
as i havent had a chance to watch any of your other videos as yet, what is the max capacity micro sd card i can put into the unit?
thanks and i will be now searching your other videos
i just purchased same unit on the chart screen i was in the tambo river but it seems only to show land .have i got it zoomed in enough unit shows the lakes but not tambo nicholson or mitchell rivers. laurie
Thank you
nice video, great info for my beginners knowledge, great job. video suggestion, more sonar info please
I also have a full sonar video as well.
Cool great thanks
Awesome! Sub-ed!
Great video , but can you tell me how to change the tide station . Mine is set on one that's 125 miles away . I can't figure out how to change it . Thanks
For the live genesis feature, do you need to go with the tripleshot transducer or can you do it with the split shot also? I didn't know if it requires sidescan to generate the mapping
Do you have a specific video for learning how to use a Lowrance Hook Reveal ( 7 X SS ) ? Please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks !
Thank you very much for the informative video, just a question. When I install my Hook2 5 split shot . I can't get it to operate . What ever option I try to do the machine shows me a stopped option , what ever I do. Please help. Thanks.
Great info!
My new tracker came with two finders. A 5ss and 5ts.
Do you know what the difference is and which one do you recommend i have up towards my trolling motor?
Thanks!
I would put the SS up front. The only difference between the 2 is that the TS can do side imaging and the SS cannot. If the transducers are already mounted then you will need to figure out which transducer is mounted where cuz they are dedicated to each display specifically.
Great video! It kept me from signing up with Lowrance Univ. LOL
May I ask, which Lowrance University are you referring to?
@@nightanddaymarine8823 It was a JOKE!
Good job. I'm thinking of getting this, and I'm curious if after a couple years are you still satisfied? I hear this is a lot easier to use than the Humminbird, but I'm wondering if the Lowrance has less manually changeable options than the Humminbird, and if that is any hindrance to setting it up how you want? Thanks much for the good tutorial.
Yes it quite a bit easier to use than the humminbird counterpart. And ya I still think it's a good graph. Runs smooth, I havnt personally had any issues. If you are using it on lakes, it's for the most part already set up when you pull it out of the box. There are really only some minor adjustments that I'd recommend for it.
thank you for the tutorial on the new Hook Reveal TS!!! How is it compared to the Garmin ECHOMAP UHD 93SV?
Thank you for watching the video. To be honest I havnt used the new Echomap UHD yet so I can't really give any comparisons unfortunately. Tho I can say I was pretty impressed with the Reveal once I took it out on the water. Sonar and structure imaging are really clear and UI is really fast. Its significantly better than the Hook2 in my opinion.
@@nightanddaymarine8823 that is really good info that it is better than the hook2
Great videos. I always go back for reference...monthly, lol. I misplaced the Lowrance hook reveal 5 card reader cover What can I use to replace? Help appreciated.
Ok got mine now and I love it. Thanks for the videos which ceartainly are helping me learn this thing. One thing though, I got the reveal 7x (didn’t know there was a difference), but don’t have the maps! Is there a way to load them on? Maybe one of your vids I haven’t got to yet explains that……
Unfortunately no. The only way to put maps on it is to record your own maps using the genesis live feature and your sonar. But you can't install a mapping card
@@nightanddaymarine8823 oh go figure! I thought it would honestly be just that easy. But still enjoy the fish finder anyway. Thanks for all the helpful vids again
Great video. With downscan, where is the boat in relation to what I'm seeing on screen? The screen is moving.. is that because in the simulation the boat is also moving? (noob here!)
Thank you for this awesome tutorial. I've had my Hook 7 for a year and to this date I have been struggling with it. The paperwork that came with it was useless.
All the Lowrance paperwork that comes with their units is quite useless unfortunately...🙄
There's a full manual inside the unit. You can print it
Tnx mate
I just got my new SunTracker today and the dealer had installed my Lowrance Hook Reveal 5xSS. Took it out for maiden voyage and when I power the unit up I get a message that says "The sonar transducer has not been automatically detected. If you are intentionally using the display with no sonar transducer or with an ice fishing transducer, please select Ignore below. Otherwise check the transducer connection and then select OK" The transducer is mounted on the port side pontoon on the back and it looks fine and the connections to the back of the unit look fine. Any suggestions on what might be wrong? All I get is a white screen with the overlays and a STOPPED message in the center of the sonar scree. Also does not give me a GPS screen/split screen image. Thanks
I have this exact setup. My main issue I can not find anyway to increase scroll speed on down scan or sidescan. And from everyone I have contacted they say it does not have that feature. How can anyone be happy with this. I'm going to return mine and go with a Garmin. I was very excited about this unit when I bought it 3 days ago.
Do you have a video on the basic Hook2 4x no gps?
Have you seen the boxes for making Garmin live scope portable perhaps for using unit on your boat and also a friends boat or perhaps ice fishing The hook reveal units could be made portable much easier, correct? No black box to hook up?
Hey just bought the Hook 9 and am getting ready to use it but I want to understand ... from the direction my boat is facing which way is the reveal scanning? towards the back? front? when the fish show up on the scrolling screen how do I know what direction they are in?
Спасибо
when using this do i need an internet, or GPS will work ,,, thanks
hi mate with the Lowrance Hook²-4x GPS Fish Finder how can i change the saltwater and freshwater settings
Might want to check your website, looks like its been jacked
Thanks for such informative video, I have new hook real 5x splitshot, took it out on the water once, but the GPS plotter screen was constantly an arrow with white background, nothing could be seen, is mine defective? How to fix it?
If you have the 5x, then a blank white screen is all it is going to show. Those displays don't have any mapping in them. However, they do have the Genesis Live Overlay feature where it will create real time mapping on your screen from the sonar depths it receives as you drive around. But that is it. It doesn't have preloaded maps and you cannot install a mapping card on it either.
@@nightanddaymarine8823 old comment but will it save the map it’s writes or have to redo it every time
@@j.lawsonoutdoors5659 if your display has the ability to insert an SD card, then it should save onto your card.
Where is the SD card located? This has been a real eye opener for me, thanks. I bought a new Bass Tracker with a Lowrance on it. The dealer installed the Lowrance but never taught me how to use it!
As long as it is not an "X" model, then the SD card slot is located on the right side of the display. There should be a rubber cover over it that you pull back to reveal the slot.
If I set a waypoint on sidescan, am I able to pull it up on the chart/gps to pinpoint the location more accurately?
Yes absolutely you can! Thats actually the whole point of doing it.
Thank you for the video, It was very helpful.
Just Please stop saying "Go Ahead"
so what is the difference between the gps only and preloaded maps when you order?
On a hook reveal 7, Would really like to use down and side scan. Can the transducer for the unit mount on your trolling motor, or only on the back of the boat.
If you have the triple shot, it can technically mount on a trolling motor but with the type of mount it uses, it's not very safe for it. Tho I do believe Russell marine makes a pretty good triple shot trolling motor mount.
@@nightanddaymarine8823 Thanks , I'll see what they have.
I have a hooks2 7 tripleshot,is the setup about the same as the hook reveal ?
As a newbie, this video is information overload. If you have used electronics before, this may be a great video. But, I don't need to know what everything on this unit does. Perhaps his other videos takes it in incremental steps. I'll look and see.
Which maps are loaded on this? I just got my reveal c map contour+ but in my setting it states C-MAP US Inland Basemap v2.0 like yours. I just thought there would be more detail than there is. And want to make sure I’m getting what I paid for.
Does this have a hazard alert? I mean, if the boat is heading towards a hazard (shallow or rock), does the chartplotter alert?
I have a hooks2 5 triple shot. Do you know if the power and transducer cables are interchangeable? If so it would save a lot of work. Hoping to upgrade to a reveal 7 or 9
Yes they both are as long you get a tripleshot version of the Hook reveal
@@nightanddaymarine8823 Thanks for the quick response.
I have the 7x tripleshot, Can I add The built in mapping that’s not included in the”x” version? I wish I had it. The Navionics chips don’t work without it from what I understand
Unfortunately no. The X series units can't do mapping other than the Genesis Live when you can create custom mapping on screen by using your sonar recordings as you drive around.
Thanks. I have a 7xSS unit and I do not see a Chart menu. I have GPS on mine with no map showing up AT ALL. I though these units had built-in maps?
hi there ,i just bought the same model with you the only thing without the cmaps card, only empty card... so yesterday i buy cmaps max n+ for my region asia, then dowload it into the empty card...but once i plug in into the hook reveal the maps didnt show up.... please help....the maps cost me 208 dollar...so expansive.
Are the Hook 2 units the same as the Hook reveal units ? Great info
No the Hook Reveal is the newer model that's out now. It has higher resolution structure scan, the sonar appear to be better, and the main thing is that it has the fishreveal feature and the Hook2 does not.
Were you doing this in or out of tbe water? Thanks.
This video was done out of the water.
ok - newbie here - we turned on the system and I cannot get to settings - do you have a video that shows the first time set up? We have this system hook 7.
Thank you for this! One question. How to I update the fish finder if mine is out of date?
You have to download the software update from lowrance.com and put it on a microSD card. Then insert it into the display while it's off and then turn it on. The update will automatically install.
@@nightanddaymarine8823 Thanks bud.
Dad bought a Hook Reveal 7 SS with Inland Waterway. Wish he had spent the $100 to get C-Map Contour+ that ships with a card. Maybe that's a good thing as I now have option for C-Map or Navionics. C-Map says Discover product is only chart compatible. Is that the same as what ships in the more expensive model? What is Contour+? If I buy the C-Map Discovery would I end up with the same functionality as the model that ships with C-Map?
On the Garmin side, their compatibility says Navionics+.
What are your thoughts on C-Map vs Navionics?
C-Map works with Genesis, and Navionics works with "Sonar Charts Live".... Are they basically the same?
God this Marine stuff is complicated. I'm a pilot and fly around the world! End goal is to cruise/Navigate the Intercoastal without running aground!
If I travel out of America with the GPS only unit would it stuff function properly? Like it's not locked to where I bought the unit?
No it will work exactly the same as in the US. It's not geofenced like that.
