In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens czcams.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

Your videos are extremely informative. I've had Quality Lowrance units on most of my boats . If I win the Hook Reveal I'll be mounting it on my new 18ft G3 Angler series boat when I pick it up next spring.

Wanted to really like the triple shot transducer for side scan but due to the fact it does not have medium or low CHIRP for deep water fishing. It got returned and back to HDI. Informative video as always!

I still have a question about the setting of the transducer in the hook reveal I have the fa xdcr hdi, if I want to set it n I can't find it in the screen, I can only take the setting unknown to find all screen settings is this normal or do I use the wrong setting please an answer e.g.d Ton de Jonge
One question. If a page is created with 3 parts, how do you adjust the size of both borders? When I selected the adjust split I can adjust the first border but not the second border. It shows the adjustment tab but can’t get it to toggle to the second border.
You briefly mention using an active imaging 3 in 1 transducer in place of the total scan. Is it a major improvement? And where can you get the adapter?
Will the triple shot transducer read through the hull of my bass boat if I epoxy it with clear epoxy the inside hull of my boat fiberglass bass boat

With these boxes, do you know if the hook reveal 7 triple shot come with the transducer or do you need to purchase that separately? and also what’s a better purchase, hook reveal 7 triple shot or split shot, or is there one better for the money? really need help so if anyone could answer would be very nice. AND also can i use the triple shot transducer on the split shot?

@@JESSEPAVON All x series don't have gps chart. Salesmen said it's just display so it didn't show it on shelf, I had no idea what I was buying and he had no idea what he was selling. Still a top chart plotter and fish finder
@Jesse James My suggestion would be to get the non x model so you can add maps. But if you don't need them then it's a great unit
Ill have to watch this video when i get back, heading to the lake for a bit. Just got he eagle 9 which i guess is the new version of the hook 9. Having trouble gettinf reading like the store demo
Anyone know the difference in the hook 9 TS model and the SS model do both have side imaging. I’ve seen these 2 versions but what is the difference does one not come with the triple shot transducer or comes with transducer that doesn’t support side scan can’t find an answer anywhere watched one review and guy doing the review had a hook 9 SS and he said it doesn’t have side scan would really like to know before considering purchasing thanks

Y is it not a good unit for salt water? Is it due to limitations of depth? I fish brackish but deepesr is in the 80ft range
Hi. Thx for the detailed info, really good video. You said @14:33 the ss model needs optional transducer for side scan. But in comments you answered a question that tripleshot transducer doesnt fit ss unit. So, how is it possible to use side scan feature with ss unit?

I’ve got the hook reveal triple shot but since It came out of the box I’ve never been able to have it on demo mode to adjust it. Do you know what I need to do to be able to adjust it on demo?
Can't remember if these units have a dedicated demo mode and a simulator or just simulator. If it's a demo mode, you need to turn that off in order to adjust it and the unit maintain its settings. Once you've adjusted it. You just want to use the simulator and then that should retain all the settings you make while the simulator is on.

Are you saying that the transducers are interchangable? That the Lowrance unit will automatically pick up which unit is being pluugged in? I bought my fish reveal unit this spring from Bass Pro and I thought the salesperson said they were specifically matched. I sure hope you are correct, would you please let me know.
Yes you can interchange the transducers I mention in this video. As long as they have the 8 pin Hook Reveal connector on them they will work.

No you can't unfortunately
Ok i see this is a SS unit and you were able to go into side scan mode. Will the SS units actually work with a tripleshot transducer and provide side scan capability?
No, the SS units cannot display triple shot. This was a version of software that had an error in it. It has since been corrected

They were really designed as freshwater units for bass, crappie, walleye, etc weekend fishermen. Typically units like that have weaker sonar and are tuned to work best in 100' or less. Also the SplitShot and TripleShot transducers they come with don't cut it in saltwater over 100’. The HDI 50/200 transducer will give you a better reading down to about 300' though .. but I still feel there are better units to go with over these for that kind of fishing. Saltwater is denser than freshwater so that is why it makes a difference to any sonar unit

Most budget units like these don't have the same level of sonar transmitter or transduce that a higher end unit would have. Higher end units would have receivers that are higher in sensitivity as well. This all means that for deeper saltwater fishing like 200' plus a Hook Reveal wouldn't be the best choice. Saltwater is denser than freshwater so that has an effect on sonar transmission ability as well.

Not with the Splitshot or Tripleshot transducer, unless you are under 100' or so

You should be fine. Try and avoid the split shot transducer and get the HDI if they're available in your area
Why not a good choice for saltwater?
Low power output for fresh water and the units were originally designed as an inland lakes unit. They added dual frequency transducer support to help with saltwater, but if you're going over 150' id say but something else

Triple shot is large not sure if that's a good choice for kayak.
It can be done but I do agree the HDI or split shot is a better choice

Well I should qualify that better. For deeper saltwater over 100'. If you got the 50/200 HDI transducer with your unit you could get about 300'. You may get more... But a higher end head unit and transducer would be better suited in that case.

Is this unit worth buying? Has anyone had any issues with the triple shot transducer or unit itself? I’m only asking because this unit is my first choice however I have seen some bad reviews.
It's a low end unit so it's not going to have the same quality as mid range or higher end units. A lot of people have higher expectations for units like this and then are disappointed. It's a cheap good unit, so if that's what you are looking for you should like it
I have the hook 5 on my ally fishing boat, more than enough for me to fish and get an idea of depth ect, not worth spending 1000+ for a 4m ally boat haha

It was designed around being an inland freshwater unit. Well they do have some transducers you can add for salt water. I personally wouldn't recommend using it in anything over 150 ft. Even with the 50/200 HDI transducer. You're better off to go with something with higher processing power and better sonar like the HDS Live for saltwater use

I was up north in Canada, I used every old lure my dad had for years. They all caught fish, I could have filled the boat up, but got tired of catching. They should have a tournament with no electronics!
