- Largest HS Band in US. August 31, 2012. Half-time show. First game at brand new $60M Eagle Stadium in Allen, TX. Against defending state 5A champions Southlake Carroll "Dragons" whose record against Allen was 5-0 going into this game.
But not this night, not in this house, and certainly not with a rare blue moon complementing the Friday Night Lights. Final score: 24-0, Allen!

Yeah, really makes me want to be in a band like this. So that my parents would be forced to appreciate the entire band rather than just me. (Though maybe a bit smaller, since it doesnt seem like theres enough room on the field for a good show)
The band is ridiculously large and I commend them for having a program that so many kids want to join. But they sound like a bluetooth radio from Five Below.

There's over 800 kids in that band. Plus Allen is the biggest school in texas
The second largest barely 400 people - and they almost filled up our whole field. So this high school is actually insane.
To anybody who wants to know, I am in this band and if you add up the woodwinds, horns, battery, the pit, the tallenettes, and the color guard, we havee about 800 members. (Im in the pit)

It sounds like only 1/8 of them are playing. I've heard a band of 40 sound louder(and better)

Can you really judge the level of their sound when this is recorded from the end zone?
DJ Vaccarezza Even then, you should still be able to hear them. It's around 700 people.
+Speciality They're facing away from the camera, keep in mind. And I have heard them perform before becoming a part, and you can hear them from miles away. Sure, we're big, but it's a lot of fun.

In allen there is only one high school, and it is this one, so imagine the usual 3 or four senior highs mashed into one, this is it. They get all of the tax money so they can make this ridiculously large school
Yeah the school has thousands of kids... and there is a separate school for the freshmans so the main school only has grades 10 11 and 12
This is just stupid, this band is too big! I am part of the Avon high school marching band and we only have like 200 or so members. I feel the max size of a band should be like 275 to 325 members. You cant win a competition with a band that big! wheres the marching and movements and forms and better yet wheres the theme. also marching in strait lines doesn't cut it. They need to have like try outs or something!
Cut them a little slack, okay. That is most likely their first show (look at the upload date). There are Freshmen who have only had bout 3 weeks of practice in there. I don't think your band would would look half as good in even 600 people.
Raahim Omer At my school once school is over we get 1 week to do vacations then for the rest of the summer we are on the field learning the show and then in July we go to a collage campus to do even more practicing. So with a band that big they should be practicing all summer! And also as a side note I don't have to worry about my school looking that bad cause we set a limit on how many people can be on our band!

Well the field is technically the same size. The capacity, and design of the stadium is what is breathtaking. However, I feel that this stadium was the worst choice ever made by Allen, as it is suffering from structural damage. It is impressive for a high school stadium, yet not worth the 60 million dollars spent on the creation of it (It's been a year now, and they really haven't even started to fix the problem). As for marching band size, yes the band is WAY too big. Thankfully, their UIL marches are limited to around 500-550 people, so the truly exemplary marchers shine through

On any weeknight in Allen in the late 80s early 90s. We would hear them halfway across town. Practicing those band instruments. Day in day out. At 17 cruising around in our cars. We would see them. In the high school parking lot. Practicing in the hot sun. That was the beginnings of what would be one of the greatest high school bands of all time. Sometimes us jocks made fun of it. But now looking back. I see it was preety cool.

for those of you who don't know, and i would not expect you to know. you have seen footage of the AHS traditional show. the traditional show is a very simple show which is the first thing the band learns and is usually performed at the first 2 games. we begin our competition after the first game or so and this year, part 1 was ready by the 3rd game. not to mention our scores in competitions are not bad at all. making finals at the 2 invitational competitions we go to and making div. 1 at UIL.

Lol. I was in band about 100 years ago. I had very few private lessons and not that naturally talented at playing the flute so I always skipped some notes and felt like a fraud - I was never called out or anything. I wish my band had even been half this big. Lol.
Faulk M.S (my school) has 473 members for beginner band, 313 for concert band, and 322 for symphonic band.
Our band is ridiculously large that there are not enough instruments for us and some get kicked out because there is not enough space in the classrooms.
Out band has around 330, and we're the largest in our area. I can't imagine marching in this band. That's way too big.

I mean, there's really no rule to how big they can be. But I'm sure they aren't allowed to compete, since they're about 3x bigger than the second largest band, and it would be very easy for them to win.

Not very talented at all really, no visuals, no real marching other then back and fourth. They aren’t even back marching, just turning around. No real musicality either.
With that band you can have one set of friends one day. Then the next you can’t find them, so you just make others.

That's money not spent on school though... It's spent on sports and extracurriculars. The teachers there tend to be low paid and the schools are ranked low compared to other states. You think you so... but you don't.
That band is huge! We have HS bands in our city barely able to pull 80 members. Unfortunately with a band this large change formations - and all the other great things that make a *marching band* a marching band - are a challenge. Instead we have a field full of walking musicians.

Just the one...the town has about 90,000 people and is still growing. I guess everyone does it differently. Frisco has about 125,000 people, yet it has SIX high schools. I wonder what Allen is like for new kids.

I'm sorry if y'all think this is something to be proud of them y'all need to think again.
See us in real life you'll probably think differently. Keep in mind this isn't a great quality video either. Yes we're big, and the show we put on is great. There's a lot more to it than what's shown in this video.

With a band that big it doesn't matter what way y'all are facing. 2 The equipment has nothing to do with how y'all look on that feel. Y'all walked in a line and that was it. The rest was is y'all just standing there. This performance was boring. And from the look of the other comments they're saying the same thing. Like said before the only thing that makes y'all some what interesting is the band size.

Grow up and realize that those are legitimate reasons. It's like saying that even though a photo looks bad, it's the image's fault, not the camera. It just doesn't make any sense. If you'd take the time to look us up, you'd see that we do a LOT more than stand there and walk back and forth. And if you insist that we are the joke, who is the one coming into an arguement with no prior knowledge on the band and no clue about how acoustics work?

This band is AWESOME in every way ! For once, EVERY kid is allowed to play, regardless of their ability and talent ! School age sports leagues should do the same and learn from this ! Winning at any cost is not the priority with this band, unlike the majority of sports organizations ! The sound quality isn't up to par, because the microphones on the video camera are at the one end of the field, rather than in the middle.

Years ago my school's band was too big to be one band and still compete, so they split bands into freshman and varsity marching bands with around 100 and 250 members respectively. Now there's just one band (130 people) but...they really should split into grade level bands with this school. It's soooo huge ;0; this band's bigger than this one university band I saw recently (~375), and I thought they were massive!
