My mom showed me this video in 4th grade when we were given the opportunity to learn an instrument for band/orchestra. I was originally going to play the viola, but my mom wanted me to be in marching band. So she showed me this, and I had my heart set on being in the marching band. I chose the trumpet for my instrument. That was almost 5 years ago. I am a freshman in high school in the marching band and we won 1st place at our state competition for our division, and placed 7th in the state.
Sophomore here.. I play the French Horn and other bands normally have the Horn tilted at a 45 degree angle down so the Horn's arms don't ache as much, right? Well our band doesn't and my weak arms are so done by the end of the entire march... I cant imagine being a French Horn in this band doing a 9 minute show though our director doesnt seem to care... but we for some reason chose to continue to hold it up horizontally... hoping this Summer Camp for next year we finally change it...
It’s an exhilarating experience. Very empowering. The two are worked on separately and extensively. Typically you don’t want to start learning the March before you’ve got the song memorized. Then, days are typically filled with working on moving from 1 spot to another. You might only get 5 moves down in 2 hours. Tedious but feels and looks great in the end!

I took two years of band in 7th and 8th grade and then four years of marching band in high school. I can appreciate what these kids are doing. I'm sure the technique when they are doing the moon walking bit, it took hours to perfect. Totally badass!!!
