The designer of this show had been the only undergraduate EVER to design a halftime drill for Ohio State. Interim director when this was designed, he was named director four days after the performance.
They march about for 20 minutes, blasting wind and drums, while carrying a the weight of those instruments, why do people think marching bands are geeks when most of them are as fit as athletes?!

I don't know WHY the flutes insist on walking sideways, but the rest of the band is waiting for them to figure it out so we can practice formations.
I was lucky enough to have Jon Waters, the man who made this show, visit my school and teach the marching band in preparation for concert band contest season. He's actually really cool despite all of the allegations and stuff that went on, but the way he conducts is probably the best thing about him. Its like his hands aren't moving, but rather he's shifting the entire universe around because its so exaggerated. :D

Props to whoever wrote the drill. The step size changes look super tough, especially for the legs on that horse.
It's easier than you'd think, as long as you remain focused and follow lines. Mainly because the left foot can determine the next step size and it turns out really smooth with a bit of practice.

How is easy: They worked their butts off, and had people on the legs who could take very very big strides. To give you an idea, marching bands typically operate on an "8-to-5" step, where you take 8 steps to go from 1 marked yard line to the next, but that move required closer to a "4-to-5" step in places.

Whoever made the drill is literally insanely talented or has a LOT of time on their hands. My marching band teacher took a long time to put together drill for about 94 students.
Yes, he is very good at designing shows, in fact he designed a show for OSU while he was still in the band. Time is not an issue because designing shows was a big part of his job. He earned a promotion from interim director to director by designing this show.

One of the best half time performances done by any program over the years. Its one of those moments where I'm sure everyone involved new they'd done something special that would remembered by band heads for years to come. I am thoroughly impressed every single time I watch this. The crowd response the entire time was so warranted. Amazing job band staff and students.
4 years late, but I heard some jeering when Mario and Luigi came out on the field to pull down the flag after the Zelda segment. The band didn't deserve that, tbh.
That's the flag of Michigan University, the arch-rivals of Ohio State. We always boo them, so it's not for the band. If you check, most of the set pieces done by the band will pit Michigan v Ohio State (the movie theme show has a Pirates part with each school having a ship.

Any band within the Big 10 Conference (the division that OSU is apart of) is a thrill to watch. The coordination and choreography of the bands in that division is simply amazing.
I keep coming back to this performance because it is just so good. Fantastic medley arrangement. The Halo part gives me the chills.
