John Lott Thank you for your service Sir, USN 89-95, I wanted to know if you knew my Father Don Shell. 1960 was my Father’s senior year in the Corps of Cadets of which I have the utmost respect. Dad said Fish who failed to salute a senior Cadet was in for a long day! Dad was a Chemist for ten years and put himself through Law School at night raising three children into fine Adults and will be forever grateful of his sacrifices He made for our Family along with our Mother. Dad practiced Law as a Title Attorney for Stewart Title most of his professional life. He put my Brother and Sister through school at Texas A&M and attended my Navy boot camp graduation in San Diego, CA. I remember our Company 230 marching during the graduation parade toward our designated bleachers filled with Company 230 Relatives. Soon as I made that final left oblique there was my Father cheering us on with his silver hair blowing in the San Diego wind I’ll always remember that moment. I wanted to be an Aggie but it just wasn’t meant to be but I always think of myself as one because I was raised by the finest Human being I will ever know my Father. Thank you for listening and God bless you and Texas A&M University’s Corps of Cadets building Men to lead our great Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen and Coast Guard! John Shell

Go back to the intro and listen where Colonel Brewer says “ now forming at the north end of Kyle Field..approximately 60,000 plus fans will shout with him, “The Nationally Famous Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band!” Also, may I point out the cross formation during Strategic Air Command - this drill has to be drawn by hand. The base drums have it the hardest on the close counter, having to dip their big drum down to avoid obstructing the rest of the band as they make the turn. Totally awesome GIG’EM ‘75

There are not enough of the letter "O" in the word "smooth" to convey the way i feel about what this marching band performed in this video.
    Holy truckload of OOOOOOOOOs.
Edit: watch this video on 1/2 or 1/4 speed to see the intricacies of this art. Then watch it on double speed to see just how seemless and truly smooth this performance is. One mistake would be like a domino effect, and can easily happen but it does not (maybe some mistakes did happen, but they are almost imperceptible here). Just amazing that someone wrote this choreography and that these team members performed it so flawlessly.
    Just beautiful.
I did detect a mistake, but the ability to quickly rectify the mistake seems to be something this team was also taught, because the "mistake" really went by quickly and almost undetectably with no ill effect. That is also talent i credit to the teachers and coaches.
Of course there will be mistakes or mishaps - and the ability to handle them gracefully is what makes this team, teachers and coaches top notch all the way. These skills will serve them well in life - these skills of foreseeing and averting disaster, skills of planning, skills of teamwork, skills that every school should be teaching in every subject - not just in marching band.
What is being taught is equally important as to the WAY it is being taught. And here, the lessons and the method of teaching seems very effective!

They may be the best band in the land, but they aren’t the best damn band in the land. Jokes aside though their marching styles are very different, comparing these bands isn’t a very valid comparison. Osu does very modern, designed drill halftimes, this band does very military style marching and drill, and LSU does a lot of “hype” music and marching. All styles very awesome in their own respective ways

I admire the Aggie band very much as a former drum major and involved in music my entire adolescence. I grew up in College Station; numerous cadet friends growing up.
The band is brilliant around line dressing; precise all around. Then, we have the running on and off field, pre and post event. A synchronized entry and and exit was the most simple event of the day in my experience.
