www.etsy.com/uk/shop/MourneSt... 21 minutes, EX- This is likely the footage from when Jimi played on the Sunday afternoon. He also headlined on the Friday night!
I watched this Sunday show on my bicycle at the back of the football field. Friday night we listened from my backyard 2 blocks away... it was loud and all us teen's hung out in my yard....
I met with jimi back in 1947 and he was playing a guitar . It was a strat . Much earlier though in 1918 during the world war 1 I saw him in the trenches . And in there he was playing a guitar . It was a strat. . White. Well , way back in 1800's in the middle of one of the Custer Wars we met again . And that's where he got the Army jacket he used to wear. He was playing a strat . White . Oh and earlier yet when I met him in Spain in 12th century , fighting the Moors, -that's when he wrote Spanish magic castle . He was playing a strat white
I met him in 1150AD when he was Fighting with Roman centurions on weekends he would play guitar in the amphitheater, those where the days, that’s when he wrote red house as all the homes where made from mud.
Besides the obvious, Jimi's mad and beautiful playing, I love the whole loosey-goosey vibe of the time. Everything nowadays is so professional and, face it, bland when it comes to popular performing arts. Here we've got people wandering about behind the amps, stage hands rushing out to adjust the drums in the middle of a song, and a really bizarre stage setup. It's all just kind of by the seat of their pants and so much fun. Innocent days.
I disagree. I see a bunch of frustrated people trying to “get off”. The loud annoying singing drummer forcing the crowd to clap and sing in order to make himself look good (some things never change). The people freaking out because a guy trying to take pictures, the people on acid trips trying to climb the wall and getting rejected … this scene was about why the 60’s had to die.
What a complete overrated guitar player. He had a gimmick stage show played a little different but aside from the professional curiosity off guitar players back then he was nothing special. America didn’t care for him until he moved and other players saying that he was good. Player’s outplayed and past him up before the body was cold.
I was there, standing right near where the spot where this was filmed. I clearly remember that day. It was insufferably hot but the music was great. I missed Friday, but went on Saturday and Sunday. I saw some great performances by some great bands: Jethro Tull, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Steppenwolf, Johnny Winter, Booker T, Chambers Brothers, Jimi, and more.
Nobody was anywhere near Jimi's level of talent, he was a master virtuoso , his fingerboard wizardry changed the entire sound of rock guitar and the way it would be played forever...
There was no one that could touch his virtuosity until Eddie Van Halen came along and even he would have admitted that he was heavily influenced by Hendrix and Eric Clapton. I heard from reliable local sources... (I went to high school with those guys) that Eddie in his early days claimed he could play ANY Clapton solo note for note. I believe it was true. You should have heard him play cover tunes. I did, several times! Man, he rocked out on "Rock n Roll, Hootchie Coo" for example despite the raspy voice of David Lee Roth. Eddie was a great player even in High School, but like Jimi, he was such an original innovator on the electric guitar later on when Van Halen made it big. Sure SRV and Robin Trower copied Hendrix pretty well, but there was only one Jimi and likewise, although many copied Edward, there was only one Eddie Van Halen. His son, Wolfie... actually can play guitar almost as good as Eddie amazingly, but Eddie is the original. I think innovation counts for a lot when evaluating the significance of guitar players. Shredders are a dime a dozen. I saw so many of them in the "King of the Blues" contest that Guitar Center Covina had which I competed in. Edward brought Pagani chops into hard rock, even more than Zappa did. Zappa was another underrated innovator. Les Paul was not that good by today's standards, but he too was an innovator. The electric guitar and double tracking was almost unheard of before Les Paul and Mary Ford. I don't know .... maybe I should give Charlie Christian the accolades for the electric guitar, but surely Les Paul made guys like Beck and Page possible with the multi-track recording thing and guitar designs.

Jimi and Buddy playing together in the summer before their New Years Eve show 1969-1970 as 'the Band of Gypsies'. We Got To Live Together Yes Buddy 🎉 Take it Jimi ! 🕉
The recording of the New Year's Eve is outstanding. I recently went back and listened to that album on vinyl and really enjoyed it. If you think about it now in 2023, Jimi and Buddy would most likely be criticized for calling themselves "A Band of Gypsies." They were magical onstage that New Year's Eve.
He was not sloppy.. he first got his songs and jams tight.. then loosened them up enough to sound emotional..so he did not sound like a boring robot shredder of today. He knew what he was doing.
I've never seen this iconic performance. Thank you soo much. I'd like to present to the court, exhibit A: Evidence for the best guitar player to ever walk the face of earth.
He played Friday, & wasn't on his game...so though not scheduled, he came out Sunday & mumbled something about Friday, then proceeded to kick butt, & jam with others besides the band. It was a great day.
Jimi not only wrote great music , but his word,s had some great meaning to them also, they helped me through some tough times . He will live on for ever 😎
He had to replace the neck of his strat before the concert, but there weren't any strat necks in stock. Jimi's crew took his guitar to a shop and they only had telecaster necks, so the guy at the shop had to modify the neck to let it fit on the strat body
DrPsychedelic its true, jimi would have played at unimaginable volumes,PA systems were not as they are now back then so therefore jimi had to turn his amps up to crazy volumes to be heard, and he loved how the amps behaved at that volume. When amps were at that volume the speakers did physichally move ridiculous amounts of air and you would have been able to physichally feel it if you were standing in front of them
Hendrix was awesome 💖 I'm so sorry Jimi left this world too soon 😔😖😥😭😭 Kids these days have no idea what they missed to experience Hendrix live, there is no comparison.
Good day! I'm sad becouse i really don't know what i missed. 4 days ago i got my 15th birthday and today i play guitar for one year. These old clips are very inspirating for everything. Im live in Hungary (please say if you know where it is) and the guitars are expensives more than other country and have only 3 teacher im my city (110 000 people). That's what i want to tell you and thanks if you read that all.
Saying Jimi Hendrix was a good guitarist is like saying Babe Ruth was a pretty good baseball player or that Michael Jordan was an okay basketball player. LOL
@@douglasmccomb2029 He was good, but there is no need to say "HE WAS AMAZING" "HE WAS A FORCE OF NATURE" "HE WAS THE BEST OF ALL GUITARISTS", there is no need to treat him like a deity. Look at how little recognition Santana gets, probably because he is Hispanic.
The history of rock music consisted of many excellent groups, all born at the end of the 60s, unforgettable groups, we all know who they are. Jimi Hendrix looked at them all from a little higher up. Magical Jimi!
I was there for two of the days. On Sat. night, Sly had the audience so crazed that they had to cut the power when he broke into I Wanna Take You Higher because people were rushing the stage. Sly gave a great speech to calm everybody down, started playing again, and when they broke again into I.W.T.Y.H., everybody lost it again and again rushed the stage. Eventually they finished their set but it was really a night to remember.
4:37 demonstrates just how great Jimi was. Buddy is squealing out some high notes and Jimi goes right to them, no fumbling, just from hearing them. He knows where every note is on that fretboard, immediately matching anything he hears, as he does numerous times in this performance. Just click to see-> 4:37
Jimi probably has perfect pitch, or something near it cause that’s not something everyone can just do on first listen, that’s definitely some impressive shit
all the notes he's singing are on the pentatonic scale of whatever key he's playing. Still impressive but it's not like he's finding this note just from hearing it.
@@sheaiek yeah and they probably rehearsed too, people attributing god level skills to Jimi I mean I get it but come on guys, he was human like the rest of us
People will never be able to comprehend what Jimi was doing then, playing through inferior equipment that frequently broke down. In fact we owe it to Jimi that new equipment had to be invented so that he could play what he was hearing in his head. In many ways it would be like a genius painter given no brushes and limited paint that he had to create himself. Yet, guitarists are still scratching their heads trying to figure out how he got the sounds he did, his technicality, and the ability to orchestrate consistently and concisely with feedback. I will forever be in awe of Jimi, he is the greatest indisputably of all time.
Inferior equipment? Hardly. The stuff available back then was as good and even better than the new stuff. Back then, amps made less gain, had a different eq (more mids and treble), and didn't have push button channel switching, or built in dsp effects, but they were far more robust, and louder. the capacitors and resistors were much higher value in terms of wattage, voltage, and Farad ratings. The potentiometers were better built, and tubes tended to last for decades, today tubes usually last 6 months to a year before crapping out. As far as the sounds jimi got, it's no secret to guitarists how he did it.
@@rebeccabailey527 agree on amps, sound systems no way. Just listen to how many breaks in Jimi concerts they had to make as equipment was not ready for his sound.
I met 2 people in my life that saw Jimi live. I asked them of the experience and they both described it in such awe. You could see the amazement they were still carrying in their later years.
Dope , brutal Volume , stupid women exposing poor doggi ! I'm an old hippie and retierd guitar pro now ! Hendrix was a outstanding talent , but loosing it all when tripping !!!! All i hear is LSD ! Sorry folks , that is the Truth !!!!!
Pretty sure it'd have been an impromptu repair job during a tour. I read somewhere he broke a neck during a gig and the only spare his tech could get hold of that day was a Tele. Not sure how he did it, as they usually have different shaped neck pockets
Hendrix!!! You can still listen to him today...connecting to otherworldly forces...or maybe forces from beyond our solar system. Hope to see him "in the next world"...
The only problem with watching Jimi Hendrix videos is getting good and fired up to rush out to the nearest Guitar Center or Sam Ash, try out a Fender Stratocaster and realize how good you are not and how truly great Jimi really was. Thank God for his music and thank you for posting this great concert footage one of our musical heroes.
@old friend Here to tell you its the same even if you CAN crush it on the guitar, and even Jimi himself was compelled to return to it all the time. No matter how good we are, we're ALWAYS faced with how good we're not. The more we're able to do the more we see what we can do, and in doing so, the more we're able to do, and so the more we see what we can do...and this is infinite, so then it becomes fairly clear that life is too short, and I'd best hurry up! So, by all means, go right down and pick up that Strat 😃
You either had guitar licks or vocals with Mr Jimi both combined will blow your mind and then some Rest In Peace Jimi what a legacy in such short time.. amen.. hallelujah
What I like about this is that it wasn't all about Jimi. We all love Jimi but he seemed to take a back seat for much of this performance. That drummer kind of stole the show and I think thats quite refreshing. The crowd were a major part of this concert footage too....and that little puppy...what a star!! Really nice to see this dynamic were everyone had a major part to play...just beautiful...🎸♥🌈💞🤗
I have a friend of mine in the States (Record Producer) who saw Jimi at Newport and at the Miami Pop festival. He tells me unequivocally that at Miami Pop Jimi, Mitch and Noel took the place apart. He always refers to it as "the gig of the 20th Century"

I like to say that Jimi with his music ability and talen was the best. He was more than just a guitar player he was a man with a message. for the world to hear.Just listen to his learics he is putting out a message
Hendrix had good lyrics... Jim Morrison was a master poet. His words were even better than his vocalizations, in my opinion. However, Morrison is one of the few rock singers that had a baritone voice. He still rocked, even with the low voice. And what a band, Jim Morrison had! The Doors, unlike some groups... played at just the right level of energy and notes. The Doors did not ever have a bad song when Jim was alive that I have heard. Morrison Hotel was great with every song being exceptional. So were all the other albums.
Only 2 guitar players I know of that play with this intensity like electricity flowing through them..Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan!! Just imagine those two trading licks on stage!!!

@@craigponzio236 They are all great, but totally different tones and styles, but not the same groovin vibes of what Jimi, Allman Bros. and those bands then were doing. You just have to hear it, cant be explained. They are all great in their own ways. Did you ever hear Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush, that is a lot like a Jimi style stream of consciousness jam, Robin Trower somewhat, SRV he did that some also, played songs longer and jammed out on some. But you got to admit, Jimi changed the sound of rock and roll guitar, and music in general, more than any one person did.
@allen Notes gain their meaning a lot of the time, thinking from Jimi's angle 😃
How awesome this camera footage is so rare for its day. Whoever did this camera footage did an excellent job. Not easy to record in those days. Wow captured Jimi Hendrix at his finest too. Jimi made it happen!!! Good music never dies. RIP Jimi Hendrix.
Best recording of him playing I’ve ever seen
Man the emotion coming out of that guitar is amazing almost wanna cry lol

Jimi and Buddy playing together in the summer before their New Years Eve show 1969-1970
as 'the Band of Gypsies'.
We Got To Live Together
Yes Buddy 🎉
Take it Jimi !
Thank God for Jimi Hendrix
Cyber Ghost Absolutely
...Y por Buddy Miles.
No, thank Jimi Hendrix for Jimi Hendrix.
The band and jimi's "sloppy" improv as he wailed is a treat for us to hear 50 years later.
He was not sloppy.. he first got his songs and jams tight.. then loosened them up enough to sound emotional..so he did not sound like a boring robot shredder of today. He knew what he was doing.
@@michaelcraig9449 damn right, he knew what he was doing. He was Jimi! He played like the wind
50 years! Omg
Buddy Miles ruined that whole set. Hendrix should have stuck with Mitch Mitchell.
@@henryrogers5500 he did go back Mitch had his band and they might of been on a tour who knows Jimi was there
That's more than enough
I've never seen this iconic performance. Thank you soo much. I'd like to present to the court, exhibit A: Evidence for the best guitar player to ever walk the face of earth.
He played Friday, & wasn't on his game...so though not scheduled, he came out Sunday & mumbled something about Friday, then proceeded to kick butt, & jam with others besides the band. It was a great day.
Was there on Sunday. like u said he kicked ass and jammed those were good times I guess we're all now old rockers
Jimi not only wrote great music , but his word,s had some great meaning to them also, they helped me through some tough times . He will live on for ever 😎
I believe He was special to God and how He Loves us so live on Henrix
Imagine what those dudes hanging on the back of his guitar speaker cabinets were hearing and feeling!
1:05 says it all
Probably nothing
What?
I was one of these guys and the feeling have me a boner.
After the concert they probably couldn’t hear anything.
I went to this event. But I went on Saturday. Creedence Clearwater, Jethro Tull, Steppenwolf, Etc.
I was 15 years old.
I saw him in Memphis in 1967!!! Such a beautiful soul!
Jimi Hendrix was pioneer in solo guitar. I remember my self very yang and it was my beginning with heavy music.
When he said " The sky is crying", and Hendrix trickled down the guitar like that....Damn..like he was playing tear drops...crazy
what time was that?
He felt and understood the music.
4:37
4:05
what song is this?
Simply Beautiful. Thanks
a stratocaster body with a telecaster neck, good innovation for those days.
Damn I didn’t notice that until I saw this comment 😂 thx
I was just about to comment that same thing, thought it was pretty dope
@@bubba5246 it is dope, I thought about doing that like a month ago but he already did it😂
I’d guess there was zero thought to that. He routinely smashed his gear and that tele neck was slapped on with little choice in the moment.
He had to replace the neck of his strat before the concert, but there weren't any strat necks in stock. Jimi's crew took his guitar to a shop and they only had telecaster necks, so the guy at the shop had to modify the neck to let it fit on the strat body
16:56 did i just see a balloon dancing in the sound waves from the amp? :')
That was cool
@DrPsychedelic Is a rock band not playing very loud a thing ?
This is the best thing Iv ever seen
Even the balloon enjoys the music of Jimi hendrix
DrPsychedelic its true, jimi would have played at unimaginable volumes,PA systems were not as they are now back then so therefore jimi had to turn his amps up to crazy volumes to be heard, and he loved how the amps behaved at that volume. When amps were at that volume the speakers did physichally move ridiculous amounts of air and you would have been able to physichally feel it if you were standing in front of them
Hendrix was awesome 💖 I'm so sorry Jimi left this world too soon 😔😖😥😭😭
Kids these days have no idea what they missed to experience Hendrix live, there is no comparison.
Magical Jimi!
it's been 50 years ago today that Jimi said goodbye, still the greatest !!!!

Drummer!👍🤩🌈🥁. Whole Hendrix Band....Awesome!!! Cant say it enough. Great Concert.
I saw Jimi in 1967 and 1968. I love his later work so much this is fantastic! Thanks so much for posting.
Sly in his own way just as significant a musician as jimi...the 'we got to live together' chant from buddy sounds like a tribute
4:37 demonstrates just how great Jimi was. Buddy is squealing out some high notes and Jimi goes right to them, no fumbling, just from hearing them. He knows where every note is on that fretboard, immediately matching anything he hears, as he does numerous times in this performance. Just click to see-> 4:37
what song is that one?
@@estevezmateo The Sky is Crying, Tedeschi Trucks Band plays a great version of that tune. Think its by Buddy Guy
@@rebeccabailey527 "today tubes usually last 6 months to a year before crapping out." That's what companies do for business
I've seen the same thing from people who've seen him. It's in their eyes. And hearts.
I never knew Hendrix ever played a tele neck on a strat body until seeing this. Wow.
….don’t be late.
Thank you God for that awesome man Jimi Hendrix
@old friend Here to tell you its the same even if you CAN crush it on the guitar, and even Jimi himself was compelled to return to it all the time. No matter how good we are, we're ALWAYS faced with how good we're not. The more we're able to do the more we see what we can do, and in doing so, the more we're able to do, and so the more we see what we can do...and this is infinite, so then it becomes fairly clear that life is too short, and I'd best hurry up! So, by all means, go right down and pick up that Strat 😃
Speak for your self..
that's true
You either had guitar licks or vocals with Mr Jimi both combined will blow your mind and then some Rest In Peace Jimi what a legacy in such short time.. amen.. hallelujah
What I like about this is that it wasn't all about Jimi. We all love Jimi but he seemed to take a back seat for much of this performance. That drummer kind of stole the show and I think thats quite refreshing. The crowd were a major part of this concert footage too....and that little puppy...what a star!!

People always call Jim Morrison the "shaman" of the 1960s but Hendrix had easily as much, sometimes more, hypnotic trancelike power to his energy.
Jimi was a better poet
