I appreciate every response. However, it was the 2nd Generation of ROCK. Bill Hayley and the Comets, Buddy Holly, Elvis were Gen1. They were all great! How many of you knew that JMH played with the Isley Brothers (The Original Funk Band) when he was 17 on the "Chitlin' Circuit?"

Me and my drummer cut high school and went to Greenich Village we met Jimi and Billy Cox coming out of Electric Lady Land studio,s the man talked to us about music passion and fufilling our dreams he knew i was a guitar player and said i reminded him of his self when he was my age. Great black man very smart and a good soul. One of the best days in my life. He died shortly after! R I P Jimi!👑

I was a lil girl 7 or 8 listening to Kasy Kasem (sp) every Saturday when my Mom was doing my hair. This young loving the driving beat, vocals, lyrics listeming to Jimi, Janice, Led Z, Steppin Wolf, Doobie, Nancy,etc. This is why now, I love rock, metal..

I'm about 10 years older than you . That was a great time for music, and in a way it has been over the last century, probably because of recordings and electrification. I grew up on classical and church music. When I was about 7 or 8 myself, someone left an Elvis 45 at the church (my dad was the priest) and so my music journey took a new turn.
I can't believe this is available to watch. I am so grateful to have the chance to see this live performance of Jimi.

Hendrix started out playing blues for rent/drinks before the 60s really got going - they teach 11 year olds Voodoo Child and Hey Joe - but Hendrix didn't just play the guitar he damn near tore it apart - Eddie Van Halen was playing Piano at this point - what made Hendrix a household name and 10,000 more technically proficient guitarists irrelevant was the fucking sound he made, and the fact that when he made it people were super excited about the Beatles.
Hendrix would never have made it as a session guitarist - I expect that's how Jack pays the bills... When he wasn't playing blues (in 27 years that man recorded more music than you can imagine - and you've never once listened to it) he was taking the very limited technology 1965 could come up and like a computer hacker abusing it in any way he could just to see what noises he could make. I don't think people realize, while Led Zep were tripping in Wales writing folk music, Jimi Hendrix was in basement somewhere seeing if he could use broken amps and feedback to make noises people had never heard before.
I can't think of anybody as significant and groundbreaking until Van Halen.

One of the greatest live recordings of Jimi and the original Experience, brilliant drumming of Mitch Mitchell and consistent bass playing of Noel Redding, may they all be Resting in Peace in heaven
Actually, this is an uneven display of the Experience...they were all very tired/spaced out...Noel "scored" some leapers (uppers) between shows, and the audio of their 2nd performance sounds more energetic. guess that is the magic of modern medicine! lol.
Did it get better after "Spanish Castle Magic"? It's one of my favorite songs, but this performance was so sloppy and out of tune that I couldn't bear to listen anymore and stopped the video. As Jimi says at the beginning, they hadn't played together in six weeks. Amazing band, and I appreciate the video being uploaded. But what a shame that they couldn't rehearse or do a sound check before this performance.

Actually Jimi is pretty miserable at this point, Noel still can't play the bass. Thank God he finally got Billy Cox. Mitch felt the same way obviously.

Mitch's idol was Elvin Jones and much like EJ did with 'Trane Mitch could definitely hold his own with Jimi.

Since I first heard Are You Experienced? in 1967 when I was 12 years old (courtesy of my older brother! Thanks Dave!), Jimi Hendrix will NEVER stop blowing my mind. Never. When my brother walked in with AYE? and said 'check this out' and dropped the needle on Purple Haze, it forever changed my way of thinking about music. And the intro here? Wow! "We're just gonna jam..." and Mitch is up messing with his set up when Jimi lays into the intro.

Honest question. I don’t understand why this music is referred to as Rock’n Roll, esp. in the US. To me, it’s just Rock music. Rock’n Roll to me is the 1950s music style that Elvis, Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry, etc... etc... played. This (Jimi Hendrix etc) music has nothing to do with that (1950s) music other than they both used guitars, bass and drums. But so do R&B and other styles of music. And we don’t call them all “Rock’n Roll”…

I'm a drummer, happy to see a video of Mitch playing his newer double bass Gretsch kit. They're all gone now, but we have these films keeping their legacy going. Now a new generation can see these master musicians on CZcams..., and us geezers can now revisit their scene anytime we want! (Thanx fer posting this one!)

I was 4 years old in 1969. But I already knew a lot of bands with a guitar sound by then. Jimi being just one of many. How I wish I could have seen him live in person. Absolutely legendary 🙌
Those bad ass Marshall Stacks . What an incredible sound he could get out of those ! No monitors or mix boards, only his ear, his fingers, and his pedals. He would drown you in an avalanche of sounds. I was there not too far from those speakers, there is nothing like it.
@Aldo Blasi That's awesome! I'm so jealous! I was born in 63. I didn't discover Jimi till I was 13. My older brother brought home some albums. Among them were Black Sabbath Paranoid and The soundtrack to Easy Rider. (If 6 was 9) His first album I bought was Electric Ladyland. Also had it on 8-track! Changed me forever! There's a channel you may like (Rick Beato) He breaks down songs on how they're composed. He also does really good interviews, with older and younger musicians. Enjoy! 😎✌️🍻
It's because of him that we have all of those different pedals that we do today he's the master mind behind those things and he created them to get to the different sounds he wanted to make music with and also Stevie Ray Vaughan even created several different types of pedals for his own music and he was a blue's man through and through and because he told all those producers that he was only going to play the blues and he never never gave up on his dream and he finally made it and then died as Jimi did only his was a helicopter crash and when I found out he died it left a big hole in my heart he was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back and not ask for anything in return he was a remarkable human being that was always looking out for others who were less fortunate and he never met a stranger he had so much compassion and empathy for a lot of reasons I suppose but he said it was because he didn't want to be rich off the sweat of other people's backs he wanted to make it on his own and he never gave up and stuck to his guns about playing the blues and that's why he was so giving to make time go by as fast as possible til he could get his record deal and he was in love with his girlfriend who I think after he passed away they shunned her which I thought was rude Sas hell it
was like she never in his life the both of them were head over hills for one another and when he died I was ashamed of his family who didn't even have a reason to ignore her and why would you treat someone who would have been a part of your family as they were going to get married later down the road oh well some people are just assholes

Jimi did actually re-string his guitar so it would play left handed. But unmatched talent nonetheless.
Must have been so annoying for him as the volume/tone knobs would be right underneath where his picking arm would rest on the body, I've tried flipping left handed guitars before and it was really awkward

Definitely looked uninspired on a couple of those songs, especially Fire. We all know he was a great performer. Makes me curious what was going on, maybe off stage or prior to the show.

The thing that stands out to me the most in this performance is how different jimmi is playing as opposed to his backup but it all seems to go together into one beautiful sound

I saw Mitch Michell at an Experience show. Buddy Guy was there too. Mitch was one of the best rock drummers all time! I love both the Experience and Band of Gypsies equally. Buddy Miles so soulful.

This video found me today, gratitude!! Hey Joe was the first song I taught myself when I was gifted a bass at age 40. Later my instructor (yeah, young guy with long hair; me a Mom of 2) pointed out how my elbow was failing, but I ended up playing pretty well, had a gift, performed a bunch. Life moved me away from playing but I had that old Alvaraz tuned up and starting again. Paul McCartney and John Paul Jones my inspiration. Rusty as heck, 70th year and I'm back, playing at home with some favs again to my canine audience of 2. ** NOW back to this video** WOW such an incredible performance by all, so great to see a real live performance, synergistic, drummer and bass (both exceptional) cued off Jimi. The solo's on Voodoo Child bring me back to my many Phillie Spectrum concerts 69-75. Drum solos thrumping in your chest. I grew up at such an inspirational time. Only complaint is the I always wanna see Jimi's hands. It got better toward the end. Sad glitchy video ending. Download Repeat.

Larry Coryell was from Eastern Washington, and became a major guitarist in the genre of "Jazz Fusion"...and he did meet up with Jimi, in NYC, 1968. They jammed together at the Scene Club. Jimi really respected Larry's excellent fluidity on guitar! He even asked Larry if he would like to add anything to that amazing, long version of VOODOO CHILE recorded at the Record Plant. Coryell said "Jimi, there is NOTHING I can add to that!"

Jimi had taken up the electric guitar at age 15...and by the time he hit London, around the age of 24, he had put in thousands of hours, practicing and performing. He was an "old soul" in a younger man's body...but he literally burned himself out, with bad lifestyle habits.

It was all about taking jazz chords and rocking them out. Great base-leads were essential to ground everything. Then imagine what a hexagonal alignment of transponders would sound like on the moon. That was a part of how and what Jimi set out to do.

Amazing footage!!! Hendrix was an amazing person!!! Voodoo Child is the best wah-wah ever, imo! That stack of Marshalls was always impressive!!? And Mitch was an incredible drummer!!!
