In this video, we're going to talk about why a child may have dark circles underneath the eyes.
It has to do with an iron deficiency. It does not mean that the child has anemia, but they may have anemia. Iron is involved in different chemical pathways and enzymes.
    Iron deficiency symptoms
    • Fatigue
    • Dizziness
    • Pale
    • Irritable
    • Ice cravings
    • Delayed growth
Why a child may be iron deficient (causes of dark circles):
    • Not consuming foods that have iron
    • Consuming foods that block iron
    • Digestive problems that won't let them simulate iron
    • Consuming antacids or antibiotics
    • Consuming grains - Grains have phytates, which bind the iron making it hard to absorb it.
How to get rid of dark circles under the eyes:
    • Stop consuming grains
    • Get more iron
    Best sources of iron:
    • Grass-fed red meats
    • Grass-fed liver (liver pills)
    • Sea Food
Children should not take iron supplements from a drug store for dark circles under the eyes. Always do food-based iron, a food-based complex, or just the food. The child should also be consuming vegetables because when someone has an iron deficiency, they probably have other deficiencies.

Growing up in a "smoking" household, co-workers always smoking, smoking in a restuarant, smoking in cars etc... I never smoked and had plenty of meat as a child. Dark circles under eyes since childhood and suffering from chronic sinus/allergies issues. In the 40's 50's, 60' and 70's you didn't confront people about smoking around you. my whole life and it worsened as an adult when I listened to folk say red meat is bad. Darker skin and circles and thin hair and nails, from lack of oxygen because of lack of iron which carries O2. Iron plus folate and b12 and vitamin c and D are crucial. It really saved my life

My first born son, was also checked because of his my condition and indeed he is also beta thal and some days the dark eye puffs really worries me... adding more leafy greens to his diet works.

Had this as a child, and it is still an occasional problem. Almost certainly irritable bowel syndrome, caused by too much sweet tea for two meals per day. If you have had this for years, it is almost impossible to clear completely. In my case, I have to avoid caffeine, especially coffee/tea with any sugar or sweetener.

Thank you Dr Berg for bringing this up. Am southern african(relevant bcoz Iron deficiency is a real problem there), had an undiagnosed iron deficiency since I started periods (very heavy) craved to eat dirt. At 31 started to develop all sorts of health problems..fatigue, brain fog, inflammation esp of the upper torso, heavy legs (couldn climb stairs), heart palpitations, unexplained bruising, restless legs (OMG I couldn't sleep at night and esp long haul flights) developed lots of allergies..all this surfaced the moment I landed in Australia. I was taking iron supplements but they were probably not being absorbed by my body. But since I cut out all grains from my diet I started to see some improvement but the brain fog only subsided once I eliminated all sucrose and fructose from diet. Its only recently that it occurred to me that maybe the iron supplement was not effective (the drs have refused to do an iron infusion bcoz they reckon my ferritin levels on paper aren't that bad though i have had to quit full time work becoz of all these symptoms smh) I am now taking Maltofer which is already doing wonders in only 2 weeks and for the first time in 5 years I feel optimistic about the future. I still cant believe I went through all these health issues because of lack of Iron... (drs currently think I have lupus or mitochondrial disease)

My 2 year old has always had dark circles as have I. I have been iron deficient for most of my life...my mother and grandmother are iron deficient as well and we suspect both my aunt's and one of my siblings are deficient as well. My 2 year old shows all the same signs as I did for it. Her paed suspects it's hereditary but all our blood work doesn't show any of the hereditary conditions. Very confusing. I have never been able to successfully raise my iron...only through iron injections have I finally been able to attain great iron levels and I'm feeling so much better

    Hello Dr Berg.
In this Video you are recommending to not eat vegetables for iron and prefer red meat over them instead.
However in your Keto Diet Video, which is for fat loss, you are recommending to consider eating 7 to 8 cups of vegetables to avoid nutrient deficiency while being on a low carb diet. In such a scenario how those nutrients are going to get absorbed. Or Is Iron absorption is an exception in these two cases.
    Hope to receive your reply.
