Today Iâm going to cover how to get rid of puffy eyes and dark circles under the eyes. While puffy eyes and dark circles under the eyes could be caused by things like fatigue or even damaged kidneys, these arenât common causes.
The most common cause of puffy eyes and dark circles under the eyes is hyperinsulinemia. Hyperinsulinemia basically means that you have too much insulin in your blood.
A person with hyperinsulinemia has insulin resistance, which causes the pancreas to produce too much insulin. Insulin resistance is caused by consuming sugar and refined carbs.
If you have insulin resistance, you retain a lot of fluid all over the body, including the eyes. Carbs also cause retention of sodium and a deficiency of potassium.
How to get rid of puffy eyes and dark circles:
1. Stop eating carbs
2. Stop snacking
3. Start doing intermittent fasting
4. Start taking potassium or consume foods high in potassium

Thanks for watching! I hope this helps you better understand how to get rid of puffy eyes and dark circles under the eyes.
I have always had dark circles since a baby.. 48 years old now. Carb free and still have dark circles
I read years ago that it's sometimes genetic because I had it a few years ago and wanted to get rid of it. I've only just realised that I don't have them anymore since I started a low carb diet.
Me too l think they are unique l look like l have permanent eye shadow and đ. because my lips are naturally đč coloredđ
You may want to look at your ferritin levels. Iron deficiency can also be related. We are grossly under mineralized as a society.
A lot of people from India have the same issue. It def seems genetic
Then u know it genetics

My face has completely transformed and I lost 25 lbs since July. I've been doing keto on and off and honestly my eyes look much better now. I always looked bloated and like I wasn't getting enough sleep. Great advice. Thank you Dr Berg!

Hi Dr Burg, I have been watching your videos for a few months, I have been dx with Carcinoid Syndrome. To make a long story short I went on Sandostatin for 1.5 years until it made me type 2 diabetic. After getting on Keto, I started using less concealer under my eyes and after months being on Keto I don't wear any under my eyes, just the corner of my eyes to give it a little lift. I also don't have such a big night time skincare routine like I use to because my skin is better being on Keto. It's truly game changing.
After doing keto for several months I have lost some weight but my skin is as bad or even worse than before, more dark spots, pores, acne, etc I had the hopes that keto will improve those issues. After 5 months on keto my skin is at its worse. Iâll reintroduce green juices because that was really helping my skin before keto.

This is so well timed! I was at the doctor just this week about my swollen eyelids (and over the eyelids). She's doing bloods and running a urine sample. I would find Keto a bit difficult as I have diverticulosis but I'll definitely try the intermittent fasting. Check on all four! Lost about 3kg on fasting and then switching to proper keto resulting in 8kg more over a period of a year. Hi, My health has improved quite a lot by following your advice. Had tinnitus, now barely noticeable. Was way over weight but I've lost 35 pounds. My energy was very low and I had trouble climbing stairs. now i can run up stairs and I'm 65. all that said, I fell off the wagon on day and went on a carb binge. 2 days later it showed up around my eyes. I can get puffy eyes due to allergies but this was obviously related to the binge. Carbs are so addictive.
I had dark lines that went diagonally from the corners of my eyes for years. Sometimes they would be darker or lighter. Cut our gluten which also cut down my carbs some and the dark lines went away. So did my daughters when she cut out gluten.

Rubbing your face, especially the area around your eyes, with ICE Cubes in the morning helped reduce under-eye bags and dark circles might be helpful. It worked for me. I got under-eye loads; I got tested for my kidneys as they were working well, then I started using ICE on the face three times a week, and within 2 months, My face was clear of all puffiness and blackness. Before rubbing the ice, I used some expensive serums, and they only worked for a short time. This easy routine helped me a lot.
Try this; it might help you get rid of your issues, too.

OMG I have to say this is the most informative videos for me. I've had dark under eye circles for at least 10yrs. I figured it's genetic COZ my mother has them too. So, I later developed the dark patches under my armpits about 6 months ago. I immediately knew those were from insulin resistance but I never made the same connection with my under eyes. I've been using all kinds of eye creams, they never work. So I started intermittent fasting 3 months ago and lost 20 ponds. Surprisingly, the under eye dark circles improved for the first time in my life. I started suspecting maybe insulin was the culprit and you just confirmed it. OMG

Ppl with thyroid disorders must steer clear of cruciferous vegetables
@@calvinklien4946 read all about it, but Iâm willing to take the chance. I think the insulin leads to the inflammation which leads to my body attacking my thyroid. Before I started this style of eating in October, I was seeing a specialist and was just feeling worse and worse. Last time I saw her I was up to 125mcg of Levothyroxine, and full of despair at the thought of living the rest of my life like this. In December I stopped taking my thyroid, and HBP meds. I know people will think Iâm crazy, people close to me already think I now have an eating disorder because of the fasting. Proof is in the pudding tho. I just had to get new eye glasses, and my prescription is back to the one I had in 2017. I have more energy than Iâve had in about a decade. Thereâs a laundry list of improvements that go way beyond just losing weight.

Thank you Doc! you are giving some very useful advice. đ
Going on a keto diet just seems absolutely impossible for me especially with how busy my life is rn . I guess I can definitely at least reduce my carbs and see if that brings results. Thanks for everything you do!!
Reducing is at least a start. I sometimes need carbs and protein to gain weight or have some fluids or if be too bony and lean. But a bit is better than too much. I only eat bread with eggs and healthy protein grain bars when i really need something to fill my empty stomach at work.
Honestly, after I did water fasting for 82 hours straight "according to Dr. Berg 72 hrs water fasting video" plenty of things has changed. One of them is weight loss and the second thing, my face and body have changed especially while doing push ups and cold showers that I started a month before 82 hrs water fasting" twice a day . Lost the weight around 8Lb, had autophagy benefits, looked younger and my eye bags are gone with tight face skin especially with push ups that put strength on my face, chest, and neck.
Try water fasting for 72 hrs, after that fast two days weekly for 16 to 20 hrs so"4-6hours for meals" you can keep the benefits
Cold shower is the best that ever happened to me also, cured me somehow from Anosmia because of allergies without using steroid sinusitis pills.
So informative. Thank you so much đ
Holy moly, glad I found this. I've been eating nothing but carbs, knowing it's not good for me, but I've been a sugar addict all my life. it is because of your family eating habits, not genetics.
First of all, i love your content, you and Sten Ekberg have changed my life with the knowledge i have learned from you two.
For me its not that i eat to much carbs, its that my body just cant handle normal amounts of carbs. My metabolism was bad i have had bloated gut for long time, i could go 6 days without taking a s*it. Im doing resistance training like 6 days with different muscle groups ofcourse and this has helped getting rid of the bloating and my energy levels are more stable during the day, i think my insulin sensitivity is gradually improving with this too, yesterday i also started using berberine at every meal 3 times a day. Will be very interesting to se if it has any effect on my weight in a month, but i already feel difference after two days of using it, after a meal i dont get big spikes of blood sugar which usually results in me being super energized after meal and then very tired after 20 minutes and then tired again.
Update please?..
@@onthegowithkeo I had to stop with berberine since it made me tired and also all i can think about after i take it is carb food and snacks, i think since i work out almost every day my insulin is in check and if i add berberine blood sugar goes to low.

Iâve had raccoon eyes (as my mom called them) for as long as I can remember. Father has them. Doesnât matter how well I eat or quality of sleep I get, or any other improved lifestyle changes.
Wow day 10 of keto and IF so I got 3 of 4 of those things down and have a pretty decent amount of greens and avocados as a result. So I'm already on the right path!
My mom has rly bad dark circles and so I thought it was just genetic. Guess we'll find out in about 20 more days!
How it's been doing?
@@KarolKnap to be honest when I was on strict keto I still had bad dark circles. But I was rly strict with my keto so I think I got what some call "keto ghoul" which means the lack of water retention in the skin makes one look older or sick. But when I ate around 50g carbs per day I stayed thin and kept a healthy look! Hope this helps.. kinda esoteric
I do all these things and it has worked. Also what helps is using baking soda as a paste and let it dry. It works quick. Just watch out if you already have dry skin.
Thank you, Dr. Berg!
Good to know.
Dark circles and bags under your eyes can be the result of not getting enough sleep; this makes your eyes itchy and then you rub them and then they get bruised and swell up.

I can see a temporary reduction by rubbing fermented garlic honey on the area around my eyes. I think the honey must draw moisture or help increase blood flow. It seems to be good for fine wrinkles, too.
Where do you get fermented garlic honey?! I never heard of this! supermarkets!?
@@nealsausen4651 I only learned about it a few months ago. You make it yourself. It's really easy.
Take a bunch of garlic cloves and remove the hard outer shell from each clove. You can crush them a bit to peel them but otherwise leave them mostly intact (don't cut them up) then put them into a glass jar and cover them with *raw* honey. None of the clear gold honey in the plastic bear (that's flavored corn syrup mostly anyway), but real raw honey that hasn't been pasteurized or filtered.
Then leave it in a dark cabinet for a week or two. The honey will become darker and thinner and you'll probably see a little bit of bubbling action going on after a few days.

Dr. Berg,
I greatly enjoy these types of videos.
Could you do a video on other eye conditions: cataracts, myopia, gloucoma, etc.??
Are these from foods, etc. as well??
Thank you.
He made a few videos on some of these subjects. A little internet search will give you a list of videos to watch đ
No they are not. Myopia is due to normal eye growth - some studies show more progression with significant near work. Cataracts are from UV light filtered through the lens (sunglasses can help but everyone gets eventually). No studies I am aware of if diet and GLC. Family history and race are the biggest factors! Diet can have major affects on preventing Macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy though! (Optometrist in practice 15 years) đđ»đ
@@chrisdeangelis4616 thank you đšââïž
I just looked at my wedding photos from August and the first thing I noticed was how puffy my eyes were.
Iâm three weeks into intermittent fasting, and my face (and eyes especially) are so different / healthier. I am amazing at how quickly the body can rebound with the fasting. Thank you, Dr. Berg.
Ugh. So predictable. So many wives just become lazy and start overeating and become ugly. Like, "Oh I successfully entrapped the man, now time to let loose.''
did you also stop eating carbs? Or did you at least reduce carb intake?
Really???
Iâd like to know if you cut out or reduced carbs?? đ€
Thank you so much Dr. Berg!!!
Thank you Dr Berg. Iâm going to be at my farmers market tomorrow and will buy mushrooms for sure. I have my work cut out for me but health is vitally important
I swear every Dr. Berg's solutions always boils down to avoiding carbs and going Keto đ€Ł
