    The “resin vat too full” error occurs if you fill the vat while the machine is powered off - the platform for the vat skews slightly forward when it is unpowered. I figured this out through trial and error, I had thought a sensor was bad at first.

I sold it and "upgraded" to a Elegoo Saturn which is great for more printing room but has issues the Voxelab did not. I would really like to compare the new Proxima 8.9 as it's likely similar hardware to the Saturn just later to market. Even more interesting is the Elegoo Jupiter. I had thought about joining the Jupiter's Kickstarter but it's clear other models with the same print area will release within a few months of the Jupiter and possibly be more polished. depends mainly on pixel density and how big you want them. Since a lot of the 4k printers also have a bigger buildplate than the sl1s (mainly thinking of elegoo saturn), you end up with pretty much the same pixel density (~500 ppi in both saturn and sl1s by my calculations)

      Something like the phrozen sonic mini would maybe translate to a better quality print (~700 ppi), but tbh, in my experience 500 ppi makes beautiful prints anyways. And paint helps cover up a lot of imperfections

      I mainly do tabletop minis and greeblies and stuff on my resin printers and the main advantage here is speed. If, you are like me, I tend to send your Mars/Saturn prints over night, then there are minimal advantages. For me I ordered the upgrade for my SL1 because of daytime prototyping where the round trip time improvement is worth more than the upgrade costs.
      For when I am DMing an RPG I could definitely see me running off a quick piece of scatter or a BBG though knowing I can cut the print time down ...
      As someone said elsewhere, the resolution/rendering improvement is moot when you are 1) painting and 2) going for table ready rather than holding it an inch from your eyeball 😆

    I dig the idea of the tilting bed, but for a printer of that size, I'd rather roll my money into a larger print size versus going down from a midsize printer I have now.
    Speaking of speed, I was browsing in 'dream land' the other day and came across some high end printers from Uniz that have a starting build speed of 200mm/hr and go UP to 600mm/hr (!!), and with 'standard' features like a pumped resin supply, liquid cooled print screen... Ugh, I was getting weak-kneed sitting down. I would totally use all of my CZcams pull if I were in your shoes for a demo model. 😁

    • @Dom2705
      @Dom2705 Pƙed 2 lety

      Not sure how useful more resolution really is. You can barely see all the details the SL1S prints unless you're bringing magnifying glasses to your DnD sessions, so what would the higher resolution be good for?
      It's the same questionable choice as 4K phones and 8K TVs, it's just big numbers that make you go "OOHHHHHH" but nobody really needs them nor sees a difference...
      So I'm always careful with the term "outdated", because many times I prefer "outdated" if it means "more sophisticated".

    • @Holztransistor
      @Holztransistor Pƙed 2 lety

      Not sure why my answer got deleted. Is mentioning other printer companies (professional DLP manufacturers) not allowed here? Anyway. DnD is definitely not the focus for me. It's display quality pieces. 75 mm and busts, 1/6 scale, 1/4 scale. I want all the detail I can get and at larger scale you even have pieces with skin texture. The better the XY resolution, the less visible voxels you will have on the printed pieces. That is the key element. Studios that manufacture collectible 1/4 scale statues use printers with 25 microns XY resolution for the master model. A 7.1 inch 8K LCD has 22 microns XY resolution. I expect more such printers now. There also is a 8.9 inch 6K LCD in the making that has 35 microns XY resolution.

    • @Dom2705
      @Dom2705 Pƙed 2 lety

      @@Holztransistor @Holztransistor I see. DnD was just mentioned to make the point :)
      I understand what you mean, but as far as I understand, that's a very specific use case. I imagine that the biggest portion of SLA users doesn't need higher resolution than what this machine can provide, so I understand why Prusa chose to keep the DPI at this level instead of increasing the price of the machine even more.
      I can only imagine how expensive these 25 micron LCDs must be?

    This prints it seems about 30-35% faster than all the other way cheaper, higher res monoscreens already out there, and with significantly lower resolution than things like the Sonic Mini 4k. And a Sonic Mini 8k is already out for pre-order, totally blows this thing away, and for half the price :D As a person who's reviewed 40+ different resin machines, I honestly don't see why anyone would buy a Prusa when it comes to a monoscreen printer. I know some people just love the name though, and don't mind paying a lot extra for a few bells and whistles :)

      I specifically ran the same print on the Mars 3 as well (and even included it in the video), and it took twice as long while having visible flaws. Which printer specifically can print the 130mm tall Apollo model faster than the SL1S?

    • @3dprintingpro212
      @3dprintingpro212 Pƙed 2 lety +2

      @@MadeWithLayers Well it depends what settings/parameters were run for each print, including bottom cure time and number of bottom layers, lift height, light-off delay, lifting speed, retract speed et cet, all which can affect print time. I can print 130mm tall on a Sonic mini 4k in 4 hours. So if you did it in just 3 hours on this I would concede it's a bit faster, but not 2x as fast. And if you see my prints off the mini 4k they are incredible, way better than what you got off the Mars 3. Not trying to pick a fight, I honestly just don't see any reason to spend money on a Prusa when there better alternatives that are cheaper, imo. Have you checked out the Sonic Mini 8k which is shipping soon?

      Gotta get that 40% better print quality and 5x longer print times with dat 8K aw yeah.. 🍆
      As someone who’s reviewed 40+ resin printers you’d think you’d understand the Target Market concept. How many budget printers have you any many other people thrown away because parts are sub par quality, unavailable, sold out, or the machine is just completely outdated during the same amount of time an SL1 just keeps on working and then is upgradable and will in all likelihood enjoy future support and upgrades?
      Prusa isn’t even attempting to compete against Elegoo or Anycubic so why does everyone seem to think they are? The marketing they’re aiming for is business and enterprise, so a better comparison would be Asiga or B9, which are 5x the cost of an SL1S with the same or less features and similar build quality.

      @@danielwright4307 5x longer print time? Not sure where you get that from, but I totally get that some people want to pay more if the machine is more reliable, and doesn't have "budget issues". But there are some cheaper options that are very well built and don't have issues. It's simply true. I actually understand paying for the "Prusa quality" more on an an FDM printer to be honest. I'm not saying people shouldn't buy Prusa by the way, I just honestly think it's not worth it in this specific case...I'm not a Prusa hater or anything....

      The prints were all done at 50” and stock print settings. Obviously you could eek out faster print speeds out of any 3D printer (resin or not), but the factory settings usually are the ones that universally work, and aren't just tweaked to function for one specific scenario.
      Since the Sonic Mini 8k isn't exactly out yet, no, I have not tested it yet. I stay away from pre-release products as much as I can. Full explanation here: toms3d.org/review-guidelines/
