I don't know if its possible, but challenge idea for cities skylines. Make a industrial wasteland city but have so many hospitals that people can survive in the cancer city and have a semi normal life span.
Wish you went back to your old stuff. Long multi-video game play, very little b-reel, your gift is story telling, so these 1-offs do you a disservice =)
I apologize for sounding negative. I just really love your old videos, no matter the game being played.
Make a city powered by tsunamis
Dis you get a new editor yet
Free city Skys lines? Ahh I been playing it since 2014 when I was 5…
If AA thinks the 1-Tile city is challenging, wait until he tries the Negative 1-Tile challenge.
A new challenger approaches
And then the Square Root of Negative One Tile Challenge
What even is the negative 1-tile?
@@Hellsliver a statistician, a biologist, and a mathematician are watching a house. Two people enter. An hour later, three people leave.

_Is it possible to make a city with only the smallest possible lot size?_
Planners in Hong Kong would answer with an emphatic yes.
I can smell the air quality of Beijing already
Hong Kong is delightful 😊
Planers in hongkong: one building in one lot? Nah, we’ll do three… for now
DID SOMEBODY SAY KOWLOON WALLED CITY?
But here we get skyscrapers on a one tile lot, HK > CS
I love that it took him 4 seconds to realize modern suburban sprawl is unmaintainable
Damn, can you imagine a "Not Just Bikes", "Strong Towns", and "AA" cross-over?
Modern suburban sprawl is unsustainable because modernity and consumerism is unsustainable
My thoughts too…
You're right, we need to turn suburban sprawl into rural sprawl. Fuck neighbors. I should be able to walk into my back yard and start blowing shit up and firing guns willy nilly and nobody should be able to hear. This is the weakness of cities and suburbs.
dirt roads will solve americas suburban woes
The best part of the Cities Skylines 2 announcement was imagining what AA is gonna do with that game when it comes out.
AA and RCE

I wonder if its possible to have a city that's all industrial wasteland, but you have enough hospitals that people can survive the cancer city and have a semi normal life span.
Amphib, I want to see this ecological disaster/dystopian future/industrial hellhole/ aka just modern Los Angeles challenge. This please.
Mandatory Hazmat suit ordinance, like living in the Exclusion Zone
"Industrial wasteland" made me think of Kenshi. And now I want AA to build a prosperous Kenshi city in City Skyline
Hong kong
Sounds like Pasadena and Houston
AA being so confused by the challenge city doing well & getting on without a hitch, that he nukes it with meteors to achieve the suffering he's used to, is comedy gold. 😂
Ayyy today AA asks the real questions: How much DOES size matter?
Great video good sir. 🐸
Awesome idea
[]🦌
AA: I created a utopia
also AA: i strategically closed schools to make it harder for the inhabitants to get jobs that require higher education, forcing them to work in my factories.
Like it is in real life.
We can all appreciate that amphibian actually shouted out the person he got this idea from. He didn't just throw them in the description. Props for being a good person!
Most CZcamsrs dont even put these things in the description
@@Rynewulf that’s the sad part
Toadie's a great C:S content creator who definitely works harder and makes better content than her sub count would make you think. She needs some love!
Wouldn't have made him a bad person if he didn't
@@BasileosHerodou My wording is bad their, I meant that it shows that he is being a better person then he needs to be. which I was happy for
AA: moves away from unmaintainable suburban sprawl and actually develops infrastructure
The city: prospers
AA: surprised Pikachu
My favorite thing avout AA is how even though he's a well spoken man who often goes on long philosophical ramblings, every now and then theres a fart noise here and there.
The way you said "who do not eat garbage!" sounded quite defensive, as though you're covering up for them.
AA discovers the wonders mixed-use zoning by accident and wonders why his city just works.
Congratulations! You recreated Tokyo, Japan
The fact I cant tell the difference between the new editor and your editing style means you must've picked the perfect editor who suits you just right
Your right. I did not realise (mid watching) that there was any difference! It felt like any other video AA's put out
Astounding angelfish, Ambiguous Amphibian(man)! An awfully accomplished achievement abiding alongside almost adequate and aesthetically appealing allotments.
(Finally, CZcams notifications know when I should be getting AA notifications. Not several days after, not a month after, but when they're hot off the press.)
I like to use the checkerboard technique on residential zones in my regular cities to create one-tile lots for a Chicago-esque dense single-family dwellings. If you wait for the one tile lot to develop, then you can put another one-tile residential zone next to it, and they won't join up.
This is the same pattern I employ to force 2x2, 3x3, or 4x4 developments. It takes a lot longer for the area to develop, but you get the desired diversity in the structures being built.
if you use mods, you could also create themes with only the 1x1 buildings & zone en masse. adds a safeguard against 2 adjacent buildings being destroyed and rebuilding as one!
Me: that first city looks like a nightmare..
Wait.. those remind me of cities in the USA ._.
“too many people were Too educated. And it came to the point that all the people had useless degrees. No one wanted to run the basic factories anymore. And more jobs demanded *Dumb* people to work at them. This created a minor crisis in our economy and we had to Strategically Prevent Half The Neighborhood from Going to school”

@@skivvy3565 Yeah cause thats what "looks like" means. You definitely didnt visit their schools :o
We love seein more city skylines content! Now we just need you to have a competition against Real Civil Engineer on who can make a more memier but successful city!
RCE would win because he always builds the strongest most efficient shape 😂
I love your videos but the City Skylines series has a special place in my heart
In the end, Nipplopolis got turned into West Virginia.
This video appeared in my recommended. I’ve never even heard of this game before, but with this video as my first impression, it seems like the most complicated thing ever. I looked up more info about it, and found a beginner’s guide that’s 27 parts, each around an hour long. How is that only for beginners!? Man, if this is how cities are managed in a video game, then I can’t fathom how hard it must be in real life.
Now that I’m thinking about it, I realize I don’t know much about how the real world works; I only know what I’ve seen in movies. I’d make a terrible mayor or president. It’s amazing that they’re able to take care of millions of people, when I can barely take care of myself.
I did something similar in Sim CIty 2013. A Town with no specialised industry of any kind. And it was PERFECT. it made money and everyone had everything they needed. Baffling.
Seeing the destroyed city made me think that playing a city builder in a post apocalyptic setting like fallout would be really cool to experience.
I recommend Endzone: A World Apart
My first thought was a city that is only 1 building, yet I had complete expectation that he could make it entertaining
yes, another city skylines video, my favorite content from you amphibian, thanks.
6:50-ish.. . Art imitates life.
With this challenge AA accidentally just made a hell-scape known as a "walkable city"
a true nightmare to us north americans
Is this a joke or are you just anti walkable cities
@@yesterday00 its sad that your confusion is warranted, but it looks like a joke based on the last line.

> Urban sprawl makes you go bankrupt
> Only successful build ever use mixed-use zoning (at least approximated it)
You are absolutely right, and you should look at Strongtowns and Not Just Bikes or City Beautiful or Citynerd or ...
the placement on those fart noises was so subtle I thought there was something making a farting noise outside my window.
Bravo.

Perfect way to de-stress after work. Thanks bro
Its even more cute to do this when you use smaller roads also realistic pop mod makes it work better
We need more city skylines
Every time i hear the trumpet victory sound in AA's videos, i get a tiny dopamine rush, conditioned by Entropia Universe.. Damn you :3
pls upload a vod of this love city skylines .. more vods !!!
By coincidence, I recently started doing something like this. I'm going for 100%'ing the game, there's yet another scenario that has a 250,000+ pop requirement for victory for no reason related to the scenario's theme of tsunami (also compares to Amb's island start video because that's what you do here, just with a few more islands, but you have to start with 1 and wall it off like Age of Empires against the initial tsunami assault), so yeah, givin' it a shot. Probably not gonna watch this yet but I'll check it some time later to compare.
I've done some initial research in some previous 250k scenarios, I'm sure people who scrub the wiki know all of this, but different zones have different variable population based on the size of the lot. There's a lot of multiples and math and not a TON of difference overall (with Industry literally being the same 2-workers-per-1-tile no matter what size), but basically, 1-tile High Residential actually benefits in comparison to any other size, with a potential max of 2 families, where for instance a 4x4 has a maximum of 30. That's just 2 more families of value, and in theory you need more road to account for 1-tile lots so they should be just bad, but I'm trying some funky thin dirt road layouts to try and pack as many in as possible. A cul-de-sac system like many use in SimCity 4 might be the best here, I'm not going for that but I'd recommend that for anyone curious to try it out, helps you shrink block size without actually shrinking block size. Another factor I've been considering is what I like to call 'door count', this is especially important for the aforementioned Industry as well as Commercial to a lesser extent, smaller buildings with a higher door count means trucks will make smaller deliveries and thus need to make more stops to empty their load. This is very bad. I'm not 'purely' in the challenge so I'm just building 4x4 Industry. I've also got rather early issues of workplaces finding workers, but that's possibly because I'm still just bad at this game.
Extra note as it's something that a less-than-great PC user like me is concerned about, this has some chance of tanking performance due to so many more routes to calculate. Skylines already has trouble for me at 6 or more City tiles unlocked (which you basically need for 250k pop), so I expect this to be hell, hope Amb and his PC fared better, and due warning to anyone else trying a build like this. I should probably just build a straightforward city and beat this dang scenario, but I get too bored, I gotta gimmick at least a little.
Wow, that's awesome!
Super cool to see.
7:00, or, amphibian discovers redlining
actually, Bangkok's city layout is more or less like this. a bunch of long parallel roads for max land utilisation. unfortunately the thai government allows private developers to decide on road layouts with absolutely no requirements, so the city ended up with massive condominiums lining up tiny 2-lane 2-way roads with dead ends. needless to say, it causes massive traffic jams even in the residential areas
I love how he instantly created houston
Excellent work amphib, your work always gives me a sense of ennui and existential dread
Worked surprisingly well!
This was uploaded on my birthday, how could I’ve missed it?
@ambiguousamphibian , I live with an elderly woman, as her carer full time. I was laying in bed, watching this delightful video, enjoying the masterpiece before me, when at 2:33 that fart sound effect played through my apple airpod pro max’s and it legitimately sounded like it came from across the hall, and that I had just heard the stomach curdling back end rumble of the elderly person I care for shat-ing themselves in bed. It took me to rewind, and hear it again to realise it was in the video. Thanks AA, you have traumatised me in the very bed I sleep. xD
Dayum I like this video, I also like that city skylines free!
You should do a one road city
Not just a line
Maybe a grand spiral
But the real spirit of AA would be
Dystopian overpasses haphazardly placed as willy nilly spaghetti as urban needs he neglected early being a cheapskate come up later on
I'm pretty sure he' done that before
1:45 so San Francisco?
1:30 you are just describing an averege american city

as always: good on you for getting paradox's money. however, no amount of ads will convince me to give paradox another red cent so long as they force you to agree to allow your personal data to be sold.
this would not be an issue but for the fact that paradox reps have sworn up and down that no data is sold. thing is, why do we have to agree to allow it if they are not doing it?
Another sponsorship for AA! And another perfect fit. Congrats!
Missed opportunity sending a tidal wave through the finely crafted rows of Nipplopolis. Imagine several thousand metric tons of water combing through the city, washing it out in perfection.

cant wait for this new rousing rendition of crimes against humanity as presented by evil kermit
I love the subtle dystopian undertones.
Have you ever played Workers & Resources? It seems right up your alley
I've done this. I didn't find any merger problems except at the end of roads (junctions/turns) at the time.
I feel like the end result is a pastel authoritarian hellscape. But the mixed housing/commercial is a great tactic, and just smart city building.
The person who opens a Land Rover dealership in that city must be rich
With some 1U roads you could really pack them in
You can checkerboard the zones without mixing them, you just checkerboard half of it, let them get built, then fill in the rest.
The labyrinth of dirt roads next to sewage processing plants reminds me of Hernando County Florida.
A blessed day. Amphibian uploaded tormenting a city

My mother just discovered your channel. God help us all. Good content!
That was the fastest demonstration of road construction bankrupting a city I've ever seen. Strong Towns would be proud.
Yes. This is what I need.
Funny enough... my first few cities were one tile cities. Didn't know I could expand.
"I built a prison to keep out the bad people."
I feel like that's the opposite of how a prison is supposed to work.
"One tile city? I mean, that seems pretty normal for AA honestly, it's basically just Sim City 2013 haha amiright??"
"...ohh, THAT kind of one-tile..."
A nuclear bomb of happiness that completly killed me hahaha. Even the nuke got to me.
I'm in the middle of rewatching your Zero to Hero Zomboid series and the way you sound there and here is so... well different. You just sound more excited, like you downed a couple of cups of coffee before hitting record. I'm not sure if I prefer it, I'd rather the slower, more poetic amphiguous ambibhian.
You'll also notice that the videos in roughly the past year are all right around the 10 minute mark. I honestly wish we could get longer videos because he clearly has the footage for it, but the 10 minute long videos have a clear lead in view numbers unfortunately.
@@nicolaskeck5863 Boy oh boy do I hate CZcams sometimes. But yeah, I realise this now that you said it. Gotta play the CZcams game, unfortunately.
So, you can do the checkerboard thing with empty space, and then once everything is built, you can fill in the empty space of the checkerboards and at least residences don't merge, so you can have 2-wide spaces between roads. this gets you a higher population density per tile, because a 1 tile house holds about half as many people as a 4x4 tile house, which means 8x the population density, which means more people being taxed, which means you can have lower taxes for them and still make money, which keeps them happy. also, on a grid system of sorts, you can vastly improve traffic by using 1-way streets in selective places.
I love your content. It's awesome
Something in my brain is deeply pleased by the aesthetic of city attempt 2
