    Have always been an Onkyo fan. They’ve always been tanks going back to my first ProLogic receiver back in the early 90s. Glad to see them offering units for everyone.

    This is a 2019 model receiver that used to be $320-350. The first one I bought. Still in use. $280 is a good price for what it is.

    First Atmos/ DTS:X I've ever got to own and try out, and knowing now what I do, I wish I would have waited for the next model up. I changed from an older, no hdmi Onkyo 7.2 and it was dying. So I needed something to fill in and got it at $230 on Amazon almost 2 years ago. The fight between EARC and my Xbox series X has been a pain, but what I get out of it in sound with Disney plus is absolutely great!! If you place your upper surround speakers from your usual rear in a 5 1 set up at the Midway point of your viewing area, hitting at about 45 to 50° from you and your front L+Rs, you'll get a pretty decent height and rear filling sound! I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't tried. But now I'm intrigued!! What AM I missing out on the newer 7.2s that have ceiling side, rear, and FLR, Speakers!?! And supports HDMI audio and 4K@120Hz!?! This past month though, this Onkyo is doing the famous 'LCD flicker of shoulder ING gone wrong death blink), so I'm gonna be getting the newer Onkyo/Denon or Yamaha. Anyways, this receiver was good for what I needed,... Just a filler and a play toy to learn Atmos DTS X, and how those new sound compressions work.

    Man I wish Costco in Canada sold something like this. We just don't get the deals you guys do. I'd use it as a 5.2 receiver with virtual heights.

      There's a national retailer out of Toronto who regularly has these on sale in this range. They ship via FedEx, and the customer service is great. I don't want to post any links without permission, but they're easy to find. I've had mine for two years, and you will not get better value for a lower-end receiver. Great features, and it just works.

    Do you know how to get around the initial setup on the tv, I just have it hooked up to my stereo and I can’t use it unless I do the initial setup on tv- is there a way to override that?

    Would this Onkyo receiver be good enough to power two Dynaudio Evoke 10's, paired with an SVS SB-3000 Subwoofer?

    I'm wondering if this receiver would do well with pushing 2 pair of Klipsch R 41m speakers with a 160 watt center channel speaker? Really interested in a 5.1 surround sound system but don't know what receiver I need to get.

    Big Onkyo fan, still using a TX-SV515 Pro from 1999, albeit it has been moved to the den as a secondary system.
    Not the same caliber as the SR393 understandably, it has outlasted several others over 25yrs [Sony x2, Yamaha, Marantz].
    As an 'entry' level AVR I would not hesitate purchasing the SR393, and they are $219 atm ]on mamazon]. Good vid TGT.

    I loved my Onkyo, until it stopped producing sound. I did some research and discovered that if you heat the Dolby chip with a heat gun, it might starting working again. After a year without a working receiver, I tried this and it worked...for about 1 year. Then it went soundless again. After another year without a receiver, I tried heating the Dolby chip again and it started working agian...for about 6 months. Then, last week, after two years without a working receiver (it powers on, but has no sound), I heated the chip again, and it worked for about 5 minutes. I am replacing my Onkyo with a Dennon. I am pissed off that I have to take this receiver that I loved, that powers on but has no sound, and put it in the trash.

    • @TwoGuyzTech
      @TwoGuyzTech  Před 9 měsíci +7

      Thanks for watching! I mean no disrespect but please do your research before posting information like this, because others will believe it and keep spreading it around. The issue you are referring to was a defective network chip on some receivers manufactured between 2009 to 2012. So yes they did have problems during that time but receivers made after 2012 have a different design which fixed the issue.

    I’d rather have 5.1 surround sound than 3.1.2 Atmos personally. Good review though, I wish they sold budget AVRs at Costco here in the UK.

    • @Audiomainia2310
      @Audiomainia2310 Před 10 měsíci

      A budget AVR? Are you kidding? This thing isn't future proof, has no HDMI 2.1 for gaming, low power ( 80 watts is into 2 channels only ) .
      If $600.00 and under is too much, stick with a sound bar. I wouldn't touch this.

    • @markwilliams5792

      I disagree
      For the features it’s a great price in this price range.
      I am running two Klipsch RP-280Fs in one room for my mains
      The other room I have Klipsch RP-8000fs
      I get that these are very efficient speakers but this receiver pushes them very well

    • @Audiomainia2310
      @Audiomainia2310 Před 8 měsíci

      @@markwilliams5792You don't have zone 2 on this unit. It's a simple 5.1 setup. And you need to run Klipsch or any other 8 ohm high efficiency speaker or it will clip or shut down.
      No way will this thing run a 4 ohm load - and if the speaker is 4 ohm, that means it will dip below into the 3's. You'll never run 5 speakers with 4ohms. Save $150.00 and move up to the TX NR6050.

    It's only 80 watts per channel and I'm assuming in stereo. So that means the more channels you add the less power per channel. No thanks. I'm going to hold out for the ZR-50.
