I have a question what is 2 or 3 favorite AV receivers and why its important bc I just bought a new av receiver for Dolby atmos/ dts x
Hey I'm having trouble connecting this reciever to my preamp. Does it just into line in? Are there any settings I need to mess with? I tried connecting the line out but I get no sound
Hi I just bought onkyo nx676 with Bose acoustimass 10 series 5.
I have Bose cinemate 2 too.. is there any possible way to use cinemate speakers or whole cinemate system as 7.1 in onkyo. ? I want to use those speakers too.please help
I am getting Pioneer Elite atmos speakers front mains have 2 terminal connections one for height and one for the front firing speakers, how do I connect these, the L/R don't show "height" on the back of receiver and I also have the Pioneer Elite matching surrounds with 2 sets of terminals one for height then L/R front firing. So basically what I'm asking is there a way to connect all 4 "height" speakers? Will this receiver work or do I need to return it and get a different one?
Great video.. I’m in the process of putting together my first dedicated home theater room with a Onkyo NR 686; I only have it in 5.1 right now , but when I get my new 4K TV I want to try atmos. I have a Onkyo 608 .& 304 and 803 with a Outlaw 5000 X in the living room. Maybe it’s the room size or speakers but the 686 sounds the best ..Question is ; if I add more speakers to the NR 686 go from 5.1 to 7.2 or 5.2.2 will it output less ? I realize this is pretty much a entry level ( no preouts) but it has WIFi & Bluetooth & I got it at a great price..
I have an issue with my TX-NR676 not displaying the “On Screen Display” to my JVC-DLA-VS2100. I have a HDMI coming from the Main HDMI output of the Onkyo to the HDMI 1 Input of the JVC projector. Normal video signal from a Blu-ray or any other source work just fine. Any thoughts?
I have this Onkyo to power my 3-TIC Omni outdoor speakers only. How should I set up the speakers on to this Onkyo to get the best sound. Thanks
techno dad, my question is in the 5.1.2 setup, if mounting the atmos speakers on the ceiling is out, where is the next best space, front high? or dolby surround rear? middle high? any thoughts?
hello question I can use zone 2 as part of dolby atmos so gets 5.1.4
Great review. I actually picked this one up. Love it so far. Where do I get a Atmos demo disk?
I have a question that it’s not related to Onkyo , but didn’t find a better place to ask .
I have denon 4310ci which is an old but beast amp (to me ) , I picked denon x4400H recently and hooked it up , I feel my 4310 has more power I can sense that in my rf82ii and rc62 , the reason for picking up this receiver was 4K pass through and WiFi/Bluetooth capability oh and Atmos in future of course , question is , can I hook up both denons and somehow use the power of the 4310ci and tech of the 4400h ?
Or what’s the suggestion on having these two Ave receivers and putting both to work cuz I won’t get rid of that 4310 , I still love it after nearly a decade
Thanks.
Can you still get Atmos effect on non Dolby Atmos video files? It gets to emulate it? I have wall mounted Dali alteco c-1 speakers just to the top left and right of my TV, just wondered how close to the ceiling they need to be to achieve the Atmos sounds? I'm kinda new to this stuff so sorry if my questions sound noobish
I've had the NR656 for a while, but just installed ceiling speakers and set it up in a 5.1.2 configuration yesterday. I actually let Audessy handle the configuration. My dumb question is, when watching a movie, do I need to manually set the AVR in Atmos movie mode, or should it be getting that information from the player/disc and set the movie mode automatically? Thanks in advance for all the good information!
Hoping for a little advice I just reached and since recently purchased eight Onkyo TX NR686. And was disappointed to discover it didn't have all the pre out like my previous Onkyo. But it does have two I can use it to add an amplifier to the main room and set Zone 2 for the mains speakers or am I stuck? Thanks for your help.
I have Onkyo TX-NR575 connected with Klipsch rp-450C,Klipsch 160M,Klipsch 240S,Klipsch 140SA,Klipsch 110SW.I feel center channel speaker is over powered as compered to surround speakers.Would you please recommend best setup with proper power distribution to all speakers,If Amplifier is needed, which Amplifier is best for this setup.
I’ve got an urgent question. I bought the TX-NR686 a few weeks ago. Setup a 5.1 channel setup with Klipsch Reference Theater Pack. Each speaker is 50 watts and center channel is 75 watts. I’ve used it a few times since buying it and they’ve worked fine but today I powered it on and the front left speaker wasn’t identified. Ran the calibration and it didn’t identify it at all. Switched the speaker out of that channel in the back with the front right speaker and that wasn’t identified either when plugged in to the front left speaker channel input. That channel seems to have blown. I’ve had it 2 weeks and rarely used it. I’m just going to end up returning it tomorrow unless there’s another way to fix it? Please help!
Need advise onkyo 676 vs denon 1400h? which is the best one?
Muy buen video.
mi consulta es , este receiver aun siendo 7.2 no sirve para funcion ATMOS?
ya que no tiene salidas de atmos?.
saludos.
Hi , can I hook it up with analog cd,dvd and phono ? If I am using it for stereo system and not home theatre ,how many watts it has per channel? I have a big audiophile Dali loudspeaker of up to 250 watts. Thanks a lot
i have KRK speakers which operate only off of RCA. i can use them through the zone 2 output but cant use the remote control to control volume. its a bummer cause i bought the receiver for the convenience. whats the name of the input youre using to plug in the main speakers? do you know if there is a RCA < _____ adapter that exists? if i cant use the remote control i may just return the receiver which id hate to do as its a nice piece.
Sir,I got a question here does tv should support Dolby atoms and dts:x decoder ?
Because I got Sony x8200e(in India )or x8002e
I'm looking to buy some speakers and a receiver, but the 2 rear speakers have a long-term limit of 50 watts, and the 2 front speakers 120 watts. Same goes for the rear being 4ohm, and the front 8 ohm.
Can you configure this per-speaker? And set a limit to the amount of watts? Or will this make this receiver unsuitable for my speakers, as it's power output can be too high?
Ok, im trying to hook this up to the lg web os tv with polk audio speakers. How do i access the screen you were on through the tv? Im not setting it up right and doesn't work.
Hi, I have these speakers (Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1) what Receiver do you recommend me Denon AVRS930H 7.2 or Onkyo TX-NR676 7.2 ? . I want with this speakers the best possible quality of sound. Thank you
Is there a setting for dolby Atmos? I only see DTS
hi, i have a question, i own the onkyo rz740, and have now upgraded to 5.1.4. in the setup menu i adjusted my loudspeakers, namely front high and rear high. the display only shows 7 speakers, the rear high speakers are missing. but in the quick menu i see input dts 5.1 output dts neural x 5.1.4
is there an error or is the receiver not able to show the rear speakers on the display, do you have any experience of what could be the problem?
thanks for the reply
Can I still get Dolby Atmos if I’m only using 5.1 setup? Using the new Lg CX tv with the Onkyo TX-NR656 which do both have Dolby Atmos compatibly.
Hi there, I have the TX-NR696 which I have configured as a 5.1.2. However when you scroll through the sound option, it doesn't give me the Atmos option. Listening mode flicks between Dolby , DolbyX and others but no Atmos. What setting should I leave this setting when watching a movie pls? I also noticed that the center speaker doesn't get a workout compared to my 20y.o Marantz. Voice seems to come over through the L and R Towers more than the centre. Any help would be great thanks.
I hope you can help me, my Onkyo receiver got reinstalled after a move, plugged everything in and powered on and there was sound, changed the input from can/sat to DVD to watch a movie and the sound was gone. When I hit the info button the audio input/output is just blank no information displayed. Would you know how to fix this???
Hey I've got Onkyo 9.2 channel receiver and I can't seem to get the hdmi arc to work with my lgc8 TV. I have an Amazon basics hdmi cable and it is supposed to be audio arc compatible. Not sure if you are familiar with any issues but would be grateful for any advice.
what speakers do you recommend to use with it
How to connect a Bose Acoustimass 6(5.1) to this NR676?.Can I use...Bose Acoustimass 6 (5.1)+ 1 pair of Atmos speakers +Onkyo NR676(7.2) to create a Dolby Atmos?.
Dumb question so please excuse me.
If i where to buy for instance the Onkyo TX-NR676 (or something similar), and Use a 5.1.2 setup. or using klipsch setup.
If i connect my TV to the Receiver using HDMI ARC (tv supports it to)
If i then connect my PC, Playstion and Xbox ONLY to my TV using HDMI, will i then still get the sound via the Reciever??
Or do i still need to connect the individually to the receiver and tv?
for some reason, i can't get my subwoofer to work. I just hooked it up. I am using the subwoofer that came with the onkyo r340 system that i bought 10 years ago. it's not being detected and no sound is coming from it. It is powered by the receiver completely and doesn't have any other wires besides speaker wires that connect directly to the receiver. do you have any idea why it's not working?
Thank you for the video, it’s simple and helpful👍🏻
Is it good to wire all 4 in back of the speakers?
do you know, if you can set up a Bose system v 28 to this Onkyo?? 646
Hey can somebody help me with which speaker type should I use for onkyo nr686 and x90h Sony tv.
I was using old pioneer 5.1 speaker's and now I want dolby atmos and Bose surround
Techno Dad, does the Onkyo display the input and volume instaed of the format is playing? my last onkyo was display the input and found this very annoying was looking at the TX-NR787 or the Denon X3400
Hi! Yes, the Onkyo displays the input and volume. You have to press info on the remote to see what audio encoding is going on.
This is right up my alley. I won't be getting a new AVR until the mancave is done. I've had a Dennon for several years. I've basically narrowed it down to a Dennon or Onkyo. Thoughts?
Laughed at "Well, I know other stuff..", was impressed with the floating title tags, then laughed again at "wifey" in the reflection of the receiver. Nice job!
At 8:07 you said the 140 klips facing down. Can you explain how they r setup . I have mine sitting on the klips rf 82 towers. I had my settings at Dolby speaker front . Is that wrong ? Should I have them as middle
Hi! No, you have them setup correctly. I couldn't get ceiling bounce to work well at my house, so I installed them onto beams that run along my ceiling. It's perfect for me. Check out what I mean in this video: czcams.com/video/7-1DvPSMxtQ/video.htmlm59s
I have a question not related to this video lol but I have a e6 oled do you think it’s worth the upgrade to go to the e7? Thanks! Great video as always!
I have a onkyo NR 686 7.2 receiver but unable to configure 7.2 in speaker setup even after connecting 2 active subwoofer in separate ports given for sub. Still setup options shows only 7.1 and not 7.2. Could you please help.
My onkyo sr-444 reciver is getting dolby atmos as input. But not delivering atmos in output. It shows only 7.1 as output. Please help me to sort out this issue. Anyhow the blue light is blinking when atmos content is streamed from apple uv 4k
I found this receiver brand new still in the box for $100..I had to get it even though I have a Denon AVR- 1300w, would consider an upgrade?
Hi, good day. Heard good things about onkyo receivers although there are some reviews about HDMI problems. Or maybe it's an isolated case?
I just picked one of these up, but I'm trying to decide if I should build a 7.1 setup or 5.1.2 Atmos setup. I have the ability to do in-ceiling mounted speakers, but I'm wondering about practicality and usage... Will the Atmos speakers only play content on Atmos enabled media, or is the receiver capable of taking Dolby Digital Plus on non-Atmos media and still play 3D content out of those height speakers? Basically, if I do not watch Atmos movies that often, is 7.1 a better route? Or will 5.1.2 still give same audio output as 7.1 on non-Atmos content? Thank you for your help!
@@richardmyers7181 - My question was for basic two channel stereo and 5.1 input signals being able to expand playback on every epeaker in 5.1.2 or 7.1 setups. Since I am now several months into it, I'll answer for those with similar questions. The short answer is yes, DTS:NeuralX and Dolby Surround are the two listening formats you can manually choose that will decode and upscale stereo or 5.1 signal inputs to playback on your full system, regardless of your speaker layout/setup. As for 5.1.2 vs 7.1, I went with 5.1.2 because it seems like Atmos keeps getting stronger in the future of DD+ (especially for digital streaming), with more support than ever coming out every few months. On the other hand, "true" 7.1 seems to be very hard to come by these days.
5.1.2 same as 7.1
@@epepmeneses6976 Incorrect. The centers on 7.1 are head height, therefore you cannot have full 360 "bubble" object based mixing that Atmos/DTS:X offers. When you upmix DTS:X in a 7.1 or 5.1 system, it is still processed as 2D based soundstage because everything is on the same plane. There is no height element or 3D soundstage that Atmos provides.
What should set the listening mode and listening dial to. Thanks in advance for the response.
So this receiver can do 5.1.4? With an external amp? And please do the sony stdr1080
No, this one can only process 7 channels (5.1.2, or 7.1)
Hi, what do you think of the Onkyo TX-NR585?
I also have this model. Installed 5.1.2 speakers. Why don't the two speakers on the roof sound? Do they only sound when watching movies? They don't sound when listening to music. Thank you
You could have continue with speaker setup the one you did is for in-ceiling speakers just for you info i did the same thing i don't know if it makes a difference or not to me it sounds better.
can you get dolby atmos via netflix app from the tv or apple tv? i feel like true dolby atmos only works with a ultra HD blu ray player.
Captain Jack would also love to know. I just bought an LG 65” oled by now hearing about this eARC which I believe isn’t supported by LG
How do u set up your receiver to your TV so I can see the menu ? TIA
Can you review the onyko ht-s3910 or ht r398 and how to set up Dolby atmos on it
Hi Techno Dad, great channel and thanks for all the info and guidance.. want to find out can the 2 ceiling speakers be in the center of the room and not directly over the main listening area? Will u still get the Atmos feel and sound?
Hi! It really depends on if the speakers have an angle to them. Email and I can show you in detail what I mean: technodad55 at gmail
I have TX-NR575E, I want to buy speakers for it, stuck between Jamo S809 5.0 and Jamo C95 II 5.0. Best advice, please. C95 II is more good looking I know, just one speaker less and more expensive compared to S809
I'm confused. I'm looking at doing a 7.2 atmos system. But I saw during the speaker configuration settings at 7:16. It only shows 7.1 and not 7.2 for the extra sub. How do you get the extra sub to work?
There are two subwoofer pre-outs, so you should be fine.
Will you go into more depth on this receiver sound quality functions performance? I was hoping for a little more info.
Yeah, I will once I've had time with it
I'll say this from the short time I've had it. I'm impressed with the amount of HDMI inputs and the high quality AKM DAC. For such a low price point, I think this is a very versatile AVR.
so you'd say at this price point it's a solid mid tier contender ?
Hi! Yeah, I'm liking it so far. I have it connected to the SVS Prime Satellite 5.1 system and it's doing a great job. I'm not a huge fan of the green display but I've only had it for a day, we will see when I do my full review in a few weeks.
Hello, dear friend!!!!!!!!
Please, tell me, onkyo 575 or 676.
Any difference of SOUND QUALITY ???
PS : 575 price is little lower...
Why do you need to keep your impedance at 6 if you have 8 ohms speaker im new about this thing just curious?
can you use tv speakers to plug in as front?
Hi how would be the sound quality of onkyo HT S9800 THX package for music and movies is it good
I’ll have to check on that
i have a onkyo 5300 home theatre system and i want to upgrade the receiver for the wireless function and the onkyo tx nr676 has eveything plus a usb for music but i have a samsung 1080p tv and i run everything in 1080p and this has hccp2.2 wil this still be able work or not
I don't have a 1080p TV to test, but I played a blue-ray and it sees the 1080p signal and everything looks normal.
hayden walters I have mine on a 1080p Epson projector it works fine for me
Getting no pictures on my Onkyo receiver, connecting ARC to ARC on TV. Thinking it might be the HDMI cable that's not HDCP 2.2? What cables do you use with your devices? Any problems on your side connecting devices to the Receiver.
I have a HT-S7805, and rear looks exactly like the one in your video.
Hi! I use the $12 HDMI cables on this list - amzn.to/2QCi3LW
How does this compare to the denon x3300w. I am new to the av receiver world. Great channel btw.
Great work as always
Thank you Walter
How can I get the atmos demo disc
Hi TechnoDad!
nice to see your description about 676.
I have one unboxed it a couple of days ago. I want to know which 7.2 speakers are best to use for it?
Thanks
Hi! Most Klipsch and some SVS would work.
Im having problems with 4k and even hd picture quality on netflix im using my xbox one x which is connected to my onkyo nr676 and then to my samsung js9000 any advice anyone?
Dude..thanks for this. been curious about 5.1.2 works for a while. looks nice, but how's the sound? Is atmos effective with just two?
Hi Timothy!! Yes, Atmos is very effective with just two height channels!! I've been rockin' 5.1.2 for over a year now and it's awesome! Since I have the Klipsch RP-140SAs mounted up at the ceiling, I don't need to rely on gimmicky ceiling bounce.
Ive got an onkyo sr 393 5.1 which says its dolby atmos compatible but i cant seem to get the dolby atmos light to come on when playing atmos sources.
Am i missing something obvious?
Changing the audio settings on the reciever only yields Dolby surround, DTX Neural and DD+
Hi Zac! So after looking at it, you are supposed to run a 3.1.2 Atmos setup or a standard 5.1. So there should be a menu option where you select either surrounds or heights.
@@TechnoDad Ah bummer! i was hoping it would be a 5.1 atmos but i guess i needed the 5.1.2 for that.
Thanks for the reply!
hi thanks for showing this. You mentioned you are a Denon fan so how does it compare to Denon AVR series e.g. 2400? The main difference I can see is lack of 4k upscaling in Onkyo vs Denon.
Yeah, I would go with that Denon X2400H over this Onkyo.
are you going to pick up the onkyo tx nr686 . I just picked it up at Best Buy yesterday .still trying to get it down got a 7.2 setup. looking to get the best out of it. thanks .
Hi! I probably will not as it's the successor to the TX-NR676, so it should have the same features, but might have DV and HLG out of the box. Not 100% sure.
Which button did you press to show the information on the tv screen
As side note to my earlier comment what receiver would you recommend that is THX certified and that is 4 ohm capable? and is THX certification worth the extra money ? when looking at a receiver series verses what the Onkyo has to offer at that price point? I know this a loaded question im trying to decide if the features are worth the money. I am eyeing the tx-nr686 ??
Hi! I think Onkyo has THX certified AVRs, but I'm not sure if that's a big deal these days. I might be inclined to get an AVR with pre-outs and then buy amps that have THX certification like the Parasound Halo series. But then again, I'm not sure that really matters.
Have u had any issues with any of thm
Everytime I turn my reciever on it says dialognorm +4 what does this mean??
I think you have set the center channel up 4 dB maybe?
How do I get a Dolby demo disc?
I have just bought an Onkyo 608 (i know quite old) not tech-savvy though. I have run the projector through the HDMI output (picture fine). I have a fire stick in one of the HDMI inputs but I get no sound. As before I'm not a guru when it comes to amps and inputs etc. Am I missing something really obvious? It never came with a calibration mic and i don't know what the previous owner had as settings. Anyone point me in the right direction?
currently I use as 7.1, but I would like to test in 5.1.2 and if possible add zone 2 as part of it would be 5.1.4 is possible onkyo tx-nr 676
Hi! No, you'll need an AVR that processes 9 channels to get 5.1.4
How does this compare to the Onkyo - TX-NR777? Which is $250 at BB.
I hope this isnt a silly question but if I want to have (4) atmos speakers (2 ceiling up front and 2 ceiling back) will this reciever do that or do I need a different reciever and what model would you recommend in the onkyo line?
Hi! Not a silly question at all! This AVR won't support 9 channels. You'll need to get the Onkyo TX-NR787 (amzn.to/2ztGtkw) which will support 5.2.4 Atmos/DTS:X configuration.
@@TechnoDad thank you!
I am using only 2 speakers and the sub, I cannot figure out how to set the sound correctly w/just the front speakers
How to make such buttons explanation animations? What kind of software you using?
I used these things called "Call outs" which I bought from videohive.net. Search Call Outs for your editing software.
thanks for great video, can i ask you, if i have only 1 hdmi out on my receiver Onkyo HT-S3900 , how can i connect my TV and Playstation , it is possible?
Hi! Connect your playstation to the AVR, then then AVR to the TV.
@@TechnoDad thanks
If we can't afford very much and don't have a super great "home theater" space. Would you recommend an Atmos Home theatre in a box like:Onkyo HT-S7700 5.1.2-Ch Dolby Atmos Ready Network A/V Receiver/Speaker Package - available on amazon for about$ 900 )
or would you recommend a soundbar like the SJ9?
Hi! I would still go with a proper setup. Focal Sib 5.1 on sale for $399 (go.magik.ly/ml/ap70/) and Onkyo TX-NR676 on sale for $339 (amzn.to/2JmbeuG). I think that would be better than a soundbar or that HTIB. You'll have to add some atmos modules, which would put you around the $900 price range. OR, you could use that extra money on speaker cables/stands and get the Atmos modules later. Focal makes some proper speakers and that 5.1 set is normally $800. Pretty good deal if you ask me!
does dolby atmos also apply for a tx-nr656? it doesn't seem to work well with our amazon fire stick 4k. and if so, how?
I’m not 100% sure on that one
@@TechnoDad what does this mean? does this mean we should upgrade the AVR to your model to have atmos?
Great video! Looks like a nice receiver, especially with ATMOS for $349! Great for a new to home theater hobby setup!
I know it's kinda randomly asking but does anybody know of a good site to stream newly released movies online ?
@Xander Charlie Ehh I watch on flixportal. just search on google after it:) -leonardo
@Leonardo Ronan thanks, I signed up and it seems like a nice service :) I appreciate it!!
@Xander Charlie Glad I could help xD
Can you do a demo on Firmware update?? I just brought a use Onkyo HT - R398, can't figure out how to do Firmware updates. Some Onkyo can update, usb, wired, wirless.an like to try one Atmos on mine since my models supports Atmos
Hi! I don't have this AVR anymore, so I can't do that.
I seriosuly can't get my Samsung TV sound working via ARC. HDMI is connected on TV's ARC Input and HDMI Main Out (ARC) on the receiver. Initial Speakers setup completed with 5.1 but never could get the TV sound working. Onkyo Settings: Hardware>HDMI>HDMI CEC:On and Anytime+(HDMI+CEC) Enabled on the Samsung tv. Changed cables. Still no sound? Please help.
Hi!
Very helpful video ,I wonder if you may help me to choose AVR , I have already bought jbl 5.1 cinema 610. Confused between Denon avr s730h and Onkyo tx nr 676 ? ,I will upgrade my speakers later
Hi! I would go with the Denon out of those two.
Techno Dad thanks for your help
Video and not matching the sound when I was watching movies played through my bluetooth from my android phone onkyo tx nr 646. Could you help me?
Yeah, there’s always going to be an A/V sync issue when using Bluetooth.
Sorry im late to the party but hope you can answer my question, I have this AV with a 5.1.2 set up, my "atmos" speakers are actually height speakers angled to my MLP. I have them set to front height but I heard you say you have yours set to "Top middle". Would you say I should change mine to this setting also?
Hi Cloudz! You can try it out and see what happens. I can't really tell if it would be better as I am not at your home. So watch your favorite Atmos scene and then switch it, and then watch the scene again. See if you notice a difference.
@@TechnoDad thanks that makes sense, I'm fairly new to the world of home cinema so any tips are appreciated.
All good. Most of the time you can trust your ears to tell you what sounds better.
What’s a good 5.1 at least Atmos and DTS:X wireless sound system in the $1500-2000 range?
I know Klipsch made a set, but I'm not sure if it's being sold anymore.
Thanks, I did not know how to configure atmos on my Onkyo NR575E. Like.
You’re welcome!!
Demo the Pioneer VSX-LX103 or VSX-LX302 please. Thank you
I have a Onkyo NR-575 that we are trying to play Xbox one 4K through. It worked for a day and now the volume won’t play through surround sound
Kindly provide video setup for Onkyo tx nr696 with Polk audio ls speakers with built in subs front sp 7.1
Sorry, I do not have this AVR anymore
