      @Andrew Robinson, what speakers do you recommend for a sever space limited home theater? Our situation is such that we would need to mount the 3 main front speakers on the wall around the wall-mounted TV.

      Why we should buy Onkyo if they already out of business? Buy not a cheap device and forget about support???

    • @mincooper
      @mincooper Před 2 lety +1

      @@alexanderdederer8250 You are right. Don't buy anything from the bankrupt company Onkyo Home Entertainment, Japan. However, this review of the Onkyo TX-NR7100 Receiver is not impacted by the recent bankruptcy. As Andrews states, the company that owns the Onkyo name for the AV Receivers is part of the Premium Audio Company which is an entirely separate legal entity from the bankrupt company. In other words, warranty and support for any Onkyo AV receiver has not been affected by the bankruptcy announcement.
      An analogy would be if Motorola Solutions Inc went bankrupt there would be no impact to the Motorola mobile phone line as it is owned by a completely different company which in this case is Lenovo.

      I may be chiming in a bit late, but people like myself who use and enjoy Onkyo kinda knew about this acquisition by Voxx.
      That being said, the overwhelming majority of smaller companies that have survived over the past 10 years have been through acquisition - true growth of a large umbrella company has not been through expansion, building new factories, adding new personnel, nope - just " assimilation".
      And long term this could be a bad thing. Less creative products, as all lines under the umbrella share very similar core components, and another I find happening: what companies like to label as " price alignment " - code word for price fixing. Long term, the big boys left dictating pricing wins - us, the consumers loose. Our choices dwindle, and things start to look.......vanilla for lack of a better term?
      A bad strategy long term for consumers - who by driving requested prices down so low the manufacturer cant make a living, much less the salesman of the almost extinct hi fi brick and mortar shops .
      Sorry to rant Andrew and Kristi - I work in sales and see this happening all the time around me in my line of work - its sad that we have done this to ourselves, and don't realize why and the impacts long term.

    Hey Guys, I bought a 7100 a couple months ago now and I can't say enough good about it.!!! I run it a 7.1.2 configuration in my living room and it is absolutely awesome. I knew going in that I was planning to upgrade to more amps in the future because it is in my living room NOT MY HOME THEATER. The Dirac room correction software is absolutely amazing. The receiver is crystal clear for both movies and home audio! I am SUPER glad I pulled the trigger on this beast!!!! I'm happy, the wife is happy, friends are happy but sometimes the dog is not so happy!!!! I would buy this again in a second!!!

Last month, I was lucky to grab a TX-RZ50 from their website when it was in stock because of the glowing review you did on it a few months back and I'm loving everything about it so far! I have 3-4 year old NR656 7.2 channel receiver that has served me faithfully for that time. Bought it discounted for 260 bucks as a year old model, what amazes me about the 7100 is that the front face is identical and most of the inputs in the rear are the same,other than labeling and a little function. I appreciate the versatility and assignability of the analog inputs,use them all,have not had any issues with HDMI inputs or 4K output. • @rossishima
    @rossishima Před 2 lety +4

    Onkyo higher end models always gives the most features per dollar--and do it well. Onkyo performance has never disappointed me and at 1/2 price of a similar Marantz receiver. I use Onkyo receiver only as a processor since their processing is top notch. A similar stand a lone processor with the same feature set would be 3k. And Onkyo is often sold at a discount over the other brands. Too bad Pioneer left the class D amp receivers, those were awsome. Does not matter to me if Onkyo would disappear, if the receiver works for you now and all the software updates have debugged everything, that is all that counts. These higher end receivers are pretty much future proof for several years down the road. I have never had a receiver break down on me to worry about repair parts issues. The RZ50 would be on my radar as it has the pre-outs. Nice to give Onkyo some Love.

    I waited 5 1/2 months for my Rz50 and it turned into a brick within 24 hours. Not your fault, and good while it lasted. The screen errored out, even after a few resets and all the cables being removed. This is the second Onkyo that has stopped working within a short period of time. I have 20+years of experience with home theater and have never had such a short lifespan regardless of the brand. I just ordered an open box, Arcam AVR21, and will pair it with a vintage Rotel 200x5 channel. It was pricey but seems to be on another level overall. This has both Dirac and Auro 3rd which I am excited to pair. Plus, since they are both using AB amps, I am hoping it will knock my socks off.
    On a brighter note, your recommendation of the Sony X95j was a good one. It compares but was slightly better then the X90J, while being 85in. The X91J was a big looser and in my experience had too many screen artifacts or other picture issues.

I have moved on to Emotiva for two channel and am very satisfied with Emotiva’s products. Probably will not buy another Onkyo product as I’m really happy with my stereo setup.

Even with family movie night, everyone else is on their phones. Times have changed. People would rather have a sound bar, then to have speakers all over the house.

    I bought an Onkyo TX-NR686 (2018 model), in 2021. It was so gently used, there's not a scratch on it. I bought it to replace an older less features, Denon receiver. I thought the Denon sound really good, and this Onkyo performs at the same quality audio level.
    I just did a software update last week without any problems. Evidently they're still supporting it. Would I buy this or a newer Onkyo knowing their financial woes? Yes, because it's the world we live in, old line companies are being bought up or discarded. I find all the features, the robust, clean power from this receiver (I hit a 110 dB measured peak when my neighbors were gone) The price, features and performance easily justify the purchase.

    Give a thought that the best way to increase supply might be to start production on a new product. For example chip manufacture is inflexible, if TSMC what's to increase production their only option is to bring new processes online. That also trickles down to electronics companies that need to create new products to use this new supply of underlaying components.

With that said, hopefully the RZ 50 will give me the same repair free life I enjoyed with my Pioneer, but any time ownership is changed it automatically makes one wonder about serviceability if needed. Keeping my fingers crossed that they stand by their recent statement. I do think they had a tight lip about the change due to they put much effort into beating the competition to market with improved products, RZ50 & 7100, and myself included may have opted for another product had I heard about this prior to my purchase.

    I just pulled the trigger on my new HDMI 2.1 receiver, after waiting a LONG 2 plus years to do so. I have done more waiting, and researching, and waiting, and researching during this time, than I have for any other home theater component I have ever purchased, and in the process of waiting, I have purchased all of the speakers I will use with my receiver, my XBOX Series X, and purchased not one, but TWO HDMI 2.1 televisions in my quest to update my home theater properly. I've known since purchasing my Onkyo TX-NR929 nearly 10 years ago now, that I would eventually be back in the electronics store at some point down the road replacing that receiver. Honestly, it took longer than I thought it would. HDR came out, then HDR 10, and still it wasn't enough to where I felt I needed to replace my AVR. I didn't feel it was TIME, until the new XBOX Series X came out. After this, when I hear about the 4K/120Hz stuff, I knew that was my signal that I needed to start working on things. And it's funny, this time around, I'm almost 40, and I've no qualms admitting that I have realized I am building this complete setup around what's best for GAMING! I was hoping to start with the AVR as I always do, but I got a deal on a speaker setup, so I jumped. Then I kept looking, but next I got my opportunity to purchase my XBOX Series X, back in April of this year. I knew no AVRs worth purchasing were out yet then, so I went ahead and purchased a Hisense U7G 65 inch TV to compliment the XBOX... Later, I realized my mistake, and two weeks ago, I purchased the TV that would be complimented by the XBOX... My 65 inch LG C2 Evo OLED. And it is gorgeous... Absolutely GORGEOUS. It is the single most amazing television I have ever had the privilege to own, or even watch for that matter! And that is NOT an exaggeration, it is 100% truth. If you think that it's all just hype, and you happen to be looking for a TV... Purchase one, and bring it home and calibrate it (and take your time and do it right and understand that it is going to take some researching and plenty of doing before you finally reach that point where it is perfect, but once you get there, it will be just that... Display perfection!! And nothing short of it! Looking at images display themselves on the C2 is an experience in and of itself! And so NOW.... Having purchased literally EVERY component of my updated home theater aside from the AVR, guess what it was time to purchase!? So, I started looking and I realized that to my surprise, AVRs had become much more prevalent in the past two months or so, and that people weren't just talking about these AVRs on the forums anymore, they had actually commenced to purchasing them and doing what forum folk do... Sharing their thoughts! So in the end, after thinking I had settled on the Onkyo TX-NR7100, I come across a receiver that I didn't even know was a thing, the Onkyo TX-NR6100 (and there is a 5100 too incase you weren't privy... I know I wasn't, until I was), and then, just after I read about it, I happened to see that not only did Amazon have them in stock, but that they were at a REALLY great price, and lastly, I was literally watching the number they had left dwindle before my eyes. Every 15 minutes to an hour, there would be one or two less than before, and there were only 20 to start with. At $699 these things were literally going like hotcakes. So, when it got down to the last three, the marketing tactics of Amazon won out and I pulled the trigger! So, unless its a total bust and I have to send it back (which I don't see happening), I am the new owner of an Onkyo TX-NR6100 Audio Video Receiver complete with Dolby Atmos, Accu EQ calibration, and full 8K/60Hz-4K/120Hz passthrough (HDMI 2.1) on three of it's six HDMI inputs! The rest of the HDMI inputs are HDMI 2.0, and I am totally fine with that! I am SO looking forward to getting this bad-boy tomorrow or Friday, and FINALLY being able to connect all my components of my home theater to my AVR as it should be done, as opposed to having to rely on ARC to get it done, while cramming everything into the back of my TV.
    I am just wondering... The TX-NR6100 is rated at the same 8ohms power rating as the 7100, which is 100 watts, and the 6100 is THX Certified as well! It's only 7.2 channels instead of 9.2 though, which I can live with and be totally happy these days, I'm actually glad that I found the 6100, as opposed to having to spend an unecessary (for me) whole nother $600 on top of what I paid for my 6100, for a 7100!! As I said, I just purchased a whole Dolby Atmos/ DTS:X, HDMI 2.1 capable, 7.2 channel, THX certified receiver, with 6 inputs (3 HDMI 2.1 and 3 HDMI 2.0), for $699... $743.75 after tax! I don't think I have ever seen a deal that good on a Brand New model AVR myself, anywhere, ever, so I jumped on it while I could, and I'm looking forward to experiencing it for years to come! It's going to be nice to stop shoipping for this stuff and get busy sitting down and enjoying some 4K UHD Blurays, and some XBOX Series X games and all the rest, in its FULL glory!
