Well said
Ricky Hatton had a great career in boxing. Had memorable nights winning belts, fought at the top level in Vegas. It’s not a long career and I hope he’s proud of his achievements in the ring because we’re all proud of him
Ricky Hatton is an absolute legend. What a guy
I am the same age as Ricky Hatton. I grew up watching his fights and went to see him many times...... his small hall fights on the come up where incredible and a real experience for a lad from a small town in North Wales. Ricky is real champion. A champion of the people, brave as they come. He made the absolute most of his talent. I met him in Manchester Airport on a late night/early morning. He didn't have a massive entourage or anything like that - just a really down to earth fella who was polite and friendly. Love you Ricky
I was there that night in Manchester Kostya Tszyu fight and I've never been in a better atmosphere we all didn't stop singing for our guy Ricky. Never knew how much it meant to you until this interview, I hope you know how much you mean to us Ricky. Cracking fella and a boxing legend 👍💙
Salford all the way
Best interview so far! I was in a costa coffee about 6 years ago and Ricky came in asked if he could jump the queue and bought my coffee for me we had a picture outside leaning against his trotters 3 wheel van
Absolute legend of a bloke
He played on the fact he's well known to jump the queue and you're calling him a legend lol 😂
@@TheSixYardBox and bought a coffee for him and presumably anyone else in the queue
National treasure is Ricky. Loved by all. And so open with a touch of Manchester wit. I had a new born baby on Monday and i now live in NZ, my brother saw him out and told him and he sent me a video message of congratulations. Such a good fella ❤️🐝
I was part of the support who followed Ricky. I went to Vegas and I’m telling you no boxer could be loved more than Ricky!
It was so exciting watching Ricky come up through the ranks getting cuts and finishing fights with body shots thanks for all the memories.
Them body shots used to break ribs !
Gem of a fighter and just a gem of a guy. Brilliant and open interview and insight into Ricky's mindset through his career and after retirement 👏
Simon stop telling him we’ll get to that we’ll get to that. If he wants to talk about something now then let him talk. It doesn’t have to all go according to your robotic script
There’s no more melodious voice to Simon than his own - or more an interesting person 🙄
Ricky should be proud to know how much he’s loved.. top bloke.. well done Rick
There’s a good chance Simon learned something. But more importantly, so did I
What a down to earth guy Ricky is, I’ve traveled the world to see him, bought 3 pints at Manni fight in Vegas and it was over after one but Ricky turned up at the after show party, Such a great humble guy
It was on hell of a ride that Ricky took us on. . . When he talks of letting people down, I don’t know what it is that he thinks we expected of him. He did us nothing but proud, an he still does.
This was by some way the most honest and unscripted session ive watched. I am pipe and slippers, 59, but ive been through almost the exact same scenario as ricky without having his successes so i totally relate. Excellent words Simon as usual and mr Hatton, you are and always will be a hero of mine.
Vile PFP. Get it together, 'Cheltenham Stud'.
@@louduva9849 😂😂😂
@@louduva9849it’s gel on his finger … you need Jesus
As a childhood hero of mine and a religious boxing fan ... this did not disappoint 👏
Ricky was a great fighter. His downfall was the way he looked after himself after fights. He'd be heavy on the Guinness and fatty foods. He ballooned in weight which made harder work of training for big fights.
I don't think he was ever good enough to beat the likes of Manny or Mayweather but he probably could have been even better than he was if he looked after himself when he was not fighting.
Seems a real down to earth man though. I loved his openness and honesty even down to saying he cries at films like a girl! Shows how real he is.
Floyd was better on the inside than people give him credit for. He was smarter and rougher in close quarters. Floyd made space to land short shots on the inside and scored when Hatton over committed and smothered his own work. He used elbows to create space and was quicker on the break to land. It could've been any ref in there that night and the fight would've played out the same.
these casuals won't understand because they only watched Mayweather handful of times
I agree the fight would have ended the same way but it would have been more enjoyable to watch with another ref. Cortez was a spoiler that fight
Mayweather is great on the inside, as is Ricky for different reasons. On the outside there is only one winner though and Hatton says as much in the interview. He always says that being allowed to fight his way may still not have changed the result but he feels it was his only chance in the fight and that Cortez prevented it. It would have been nice to see mayweather pressured into having to fight. Personally I think that Mayweather would've upped the gears sooner and got Hatton out of there even earlier. However, he would've had to work for it and Hatton would've had his moments. Regardless of how we feel the fight would go if refereed differently, there's no denying that Cortez was appalling that night
I disagree I have watched the fight many times and Cortez was bought by Floyd he is known for being a corrupt scum of a ref
If Ricky was allowed to fight his way he wouldn't have got frustrated and he would have been more successful
Mayweather knew this which is why Ricky was setup for failure
I gave Ricky a chance against Mayweather if he was allowed to fight freely worst case would have been a split decision win either way if the fight was fair
@@notoriouslifestyle Another criticism of Cortez is that he repeatedly allowed mayweather to duck below the waistline without warning, As quick as he was to call break, he failed to warn floyd for hitting on the break repeatedly. A few months later, He had no issue whatsoever with Hopkins initiating clinches without even attempting to work inside against Calzaghe, No consistent warnings despite it happening every few seconds in each round .On one occasion, he called break before hatton had even stepped in and neither he or floyd had a hand on each other. Zero consistency at all and how refs aren't made to explain such things is criminal
I remember the night of the mayweather fight. Walking out of an ian brown concert in manchester with thousands of people singing "there's only one ricky hatton" in anticipation of the fight later that night. A proper warrior and a top lad.
Ricky, there will never be a boxer anywhere on this planet who was loved by his fans like him simple as,pure class he was!!
Nonsense, Muhammed Ali was loved worldwide.
Absolutely love Ricky one of my favourite fighter's of all time with probably best body punch knockout power ever. 💪
Ric was one of the last old-school guys who believed in entertaining the crowd not just winning. The hitman we salute you
Idk how anyone could dislike Ricky the person. He might not be everyone’s favourite boxer but as a person he’s so likeable.
Brilliant episode. Love Ricky’s fights and he comes across as really humble. Hope he understands how appreciated he was by the boxing public and glad to hear he’s found a good space now.
Wonderful interview, I was never into boxing but the only fight I ever went to was Ricky fighting at the Arena, a night never to be forgotten, incredible occasion.
Best wishes Ricky and great to see you in a better place, come on you blues!!
What's Ricky on about when he says he watched Floyd fight Maidana and fancied his chances???, Floyd fought Maidana years after he fought him 😂😂
Probably meant Castillo, coz Hatton best Castillo quite comfortably and floyd struggled but floyd also struggled against maidana so probs got the names muddled up
Think he meant de la hoya. He lost a split to Floyd fight before
Yeah I thought the same. Floyd fought Maidana in 2014
Fought the exact same had to go check and knew I was right and Hatton my favourite boxer of all time
Let people down…. Never Ricky the ride was unbelievable and us fans loved it… all of it…
Take great pride in what you achieved 👏👏👏
Hatton is a hero. Nice fella.
What a legend Ricky is... and what a trainer Billy Graham sounded. Heard all the stories before but I never tire of listening to them.
Ricky, u owe nobody nothing, as u gave ur all. Stay safe. ☘️
It's just a fantastic podcast from Simon in my opinion, top marks all round
Nothing but love and respect for Ricky Hatton any body who’s stepped inside a boxing ring will understand Ricky is a national treasure
I really like Ricky! I met him once on holiday and he just seemed so real and down to earth
Ricki with his £99 air max on. Legend.
Hahaha class.. bit more than a ton these days up in footlocker round my way!
@@GeorgieWing im in Dundee mate, 99 here
45pound round the corner from me cheetham Hill! But after a bit they fall apart
Met Ricky at a charity event for make a wish I was at a few years ago. He was only meant to pop in for an hour before a paid gig he had 2 hours away. He ended up staying for hours, did it for free of course. Was a really nice guy and I was lucky enough to chat 1on1 with him for 20 mins over a beer. In person hes the same guy as you see in this interview, top bloke
One thing that always remains is Ricky Hatton is always relatable at the peak of stardom he never changed and now as someone who's suffered with mental health hes championing that when you hate yourself lose everything really important and come back and give back thats what lifes about ❤
This is the nicest Simon Jordan has ever been. He must have a soft spot for Ricky 😂
He has one for froch and Hatton
Im a hardcore boxing, kickboxing and MMA fan, i love all combat sports and compete myself in kickboxing and i still remember the very first fight of any kind i watched and it was Hatton vs Tzu in manchester, i remember every round, the walk outs, music, the roar of the crowd, everything, it changed me completely from that fight onwards and i was a all in boxing fan and was lucky enough to follow rickys career till the end, always a gent, humble, peoples champ and heart of gold, thank you sir for inspiring a whole generation and putting on the shows and wars that you did 🙏🏽🙌🏽 legend of the highest order 🔥
I thoroughly enjoyed this, well done on another great interview Simon and Ricky good luck pal, I understand your daily struggles.
Brilliant ! Ricky Hatton is a lovely fella, truly
grounded , not changed at all, just a normal guy ( apart from his great achievements of course) 🙌 well done and thank you Ricky 👍👍
Brilliant, enjoyed that !
Definition of a British legend! Thanks for the memories
National treasure is Ricky 👏🏻
What a belter of an interview. What a man is our Ricky 👊
Brilliant one. What a guy. Love the boxing guys coming on. They all come across as so authentic. Real people you can relate too. Keep banging on, but please get Calzaghe on this.
Legend. Great interview Simon Jordan
Love ricky, I'm 42 but was about 19 at the time and i remember my dad saying to me quick quick come and watch the boxing, Ricky would of been at the start of his career, followed him ever since, even watched him fight in the MEN against Carlos vilches, had a photo with him in bournemouth recently. So happy to shake his hand.
That check hook was superbly sweet by Floyd though. Have you ever seen a Tom n Jerry cartoon?!??!?!
Never been prouder to be a british boxing fan as when i was following Hatton, proper bloke from a normal backround and fought and lost to the two best p4p fighters but also two weight world champion and unified light welterweight champion! immense!
Mayweather fight was 16 years ago today. My daughter is 16 today. Remember listening to the fight on the way to the hospital!
Really enjoyed this interview
Excellent podcast. Great guy! Ricky was a beast in the ring ❤
Brilliant interview. I know Ricky's not ready for his pipe & slippers yet but he is already one of our National Treasures . And that's from a Southern Palace supporter.
What a Legend you are Rick , straight as an arrow ❤
It’s all dollars for donuts at the end of the day.
Fair play Ricky u have helped me through some personal stuff, thank you
Really great to see good interview
This guy is loved in the country never mind your hometown Ricky ❤️
i love ricky, what a decent lad. followed hitman and calzaghe through the 90s/00s. i am so proud of what they achieved.
and to non english ppl, ricky hatton is welcomed like a hero here
Love Ricky but jesus these stories have been done to death.
Amazing fighter and I think he took Manny & Floyd on grows his legacy not diminish it. Shame him & Billy didnt stay together, I sensed from that point they parted was the start of the end. There is so much love between them despite the issues.
There will never be another fanbase like Hattons. But let’s not forget the talent to go with it. Two weight World Champ whilst living the complete opposite lifestyle of an athlete who lost to two of the best ever. We’ll forget the Senchenko fight, that shouldn’t have happened.
great great pod cast simon think yout brill at it and ricky what a straight kid one of us xx
Simon Jordan keeps on getting great people on his podcast 🙂
Too bad William Hill is behind it :)
Unexpectedly bumped into him, Billy, his girlfriend and family, plus - weirdly - a couple of people from Coronation Street, in an empty bar at the MGM Grand a couple of nights after the Mayweather fight. He was all smashed up but insisted we join them and wouldn’t let us spend a penny. What a great, impromptu night with an absolute legend. Thanks for the best memories Rick
Ricky, we all love to bits, but I really enjoy these with Simon. He didn't box, but how many football managers today never really played the game or at a high level? You can observe and study a sport and have a solid opinion on it. But his questions are spot on, and Ricky, god bless, gave us some great nights. Was a pleasure. GREAT interview.
Genuine working class lad who never forgot who he was, real legend in the boxing world, and good lad to boot.more power to your elbow Ricky.
One of the best interviews on the series that 1
Good man Ricky. A great example to men with mental health problems. 💭🥊
Hatton was so exciting to watch. Put everything on the line everytime.
Top comment is most a dig at Ricky about the Mayweather fight. Joke.
Ricky is an inspiration, he’s had an absolute unbelievable career. But the best thing about Rick is the fact he’s one of the most humble, down to earth man you’d ever meet. Absolutely legend.
Best one yet. And seemed like great respect toward one and other.
Good guy, very honest and humble warrior !
A true champion, inside and outside x
Brilliant Simon.

What a man! Brilliant guest
“Made me look better looking” 😂😂 out here doing Ian dowie like that
Brilliant fighter and a British legend and the only thing that stopped him becoming an hall of famer is that he was in an era with 2 once in a generation fighters
Great video - Simon also let’s Ricky chat. Went to Vegas 3 times to watch him box live. Amazing days.
Excellent!!
He was never given a chance against Mayweather. But you have to say, Mayweather and Pacquiao were a level above Ricky.
10 levels above. He was never great anyway. Beat older fighters and dodged a British showdown which nobody says because ricky is liked and white.
@@user-kq9vv5tj1u He was a very good fighter who was also down to earth and humble which is why the fans loved Ricky it's nothing to do with being white.
Absolutely agree
@@user-kq9vv5tj1ucrap comment. The same people who supported Hatton also supported Benn before and Bruno before that. Plenty of similarities, can’t be bothered to list them for you.
@@charlesbrown4941 bollocks. Total BS. Everybody knows it. It's because he's white and let's be honest most whites cannot fight and have weak jaws. Most british fighters do.
Absolute Legend
Its hard not to love Ricky. He was an underdog most of his career and achieved a hell of a lot in the sport. Lost to the two best Pound 4 Pound fighters of his generation, but was one of the most popular British fighters of all time.
Legend🙏……… thank you Ricky
Love Ricky Hatton one of my heros went to Boston to watch him .local lad done good most down to earth guy ever always says hello to you and everything a proper gent
Ricky mate i suffer from mental health, your suffering because you are a one off and gifted, we cant win them all but you are world class, you achieved, enjoy the rest of your life as a winner,
great insight into whats its like to be in a world title fight, cheers Ricky
Well done Ricky for talking about mental health it needs to be spread more especially with men ❤
This man is as adored today as he was 20 years ago. Loved this interview top class
I was living in WA when Ricky fought Kostya and it was amazing seeing him win while in ‘enemy territory’!
Nuff respect to you, Ricky.
