Gullit was a Rolls Royce of a footballer. Stupendous talent this man had.
Yes his name is Ruud Mullet
Ruud is an absolute class act. A lovely and entertaining guy and one of life’s ‘smilers’ as I call them. Not to mention being one of the best ever players. Great podcast Simon 👏👏👏
Who can ever forget the Flying Dutchman with the dreadlocks. Great memories from my youth watching him in that Holland and Milan team.
I'm 62 so I have great memories of those crazy dreds flying down the field during the best times in Italian football
Gullit, Van Basten and Rijkaard in Sacchi's Milan , probably the best club team ever
Busquets,Xavi, iniesta and Messi in guardiolas barca was the best club team ever
No.@@ryan63970
Both wrong law best and Charlton
Keane scholes giggs
overrated mediocre team. @@jp3622
He was unreal, I remember watching him on channel four playing with AC Milan and Sampdoria Unplayable
Gazzetta football Italia, Sunday games, happy days!!
Goallll lazzzioooo, although they didn't say Lazio lol. Good old Sunday dinner times.
@@mattsmith5421 honestly it was brilliant. Just these superstars teams playing every week was a joy
@@jamesbloy2881 yeah rarely missed a game, so many great Italian teams back all capable of beating each other any year, Milan, inter, juve, Parma, sampdoria, Roma and the team i took a liking to fiorentina.
A majestic player, and one of the few ex-pros who consistently gives interesting and insightful observations on matches when working as a pundit.
Totally changed my perception of Ruud. Great interview and a good guy.
just imagine how our much more perceptions would change if we are given a chance to hear and see ppl and thing for who and what they are instead of stereotypes and hearsay, and etc.....life s a humbler.
That was great; Ruud is a really likeable character
That Dutch team with Ruud and Van Basten was one of my all-time favourites. Just special players and gave me a real soft spot for Dutch players my whole life.
I don't agree with his stance on certain issues but he's very much entitled to them, and this was a great conversation.
same I dont agree with Simons stance on certain issues which he is entitled to but a good interviewer.
MARCO VAN BASTEN … that’s all I wanted to say WHAT A STRIKER
Dude would have had 2 more Ballon d’Ors had it not been for the injuries. What a beast.
Tony Adam's still having nightmares...!
Absolutely brilliant interview. Love the confidence of both Rudd and Simon and kind of explains why they have both been extremely successful in their careers. Best up front yet. Box Office indeed.👏👏👏👏
What is a "rudd"? Don't you have Wikipedia?
My best also, Simon not the main man in this.✊
That was brilliant, Ruud what a topman.
Gullet was a beast of a baller 👍👍
I think many supporters forget how many awesome players there was back in the 80s 90s❤
Ledg wat a player man
If you're saying "baller" you didn't actually see him play.
I did. Hence why I called him a baller. I'm amused that vernacular offends you. Language is contextual and a smart man as yourself should get that. I saw him play in the 1988 Euros final up until his time in Chelsea in 1995. So I can certify he was a baller. Uptight and borderline autistic people as yourself amuse me no end. @@JamesHussain82
@@JamesHussain82Not sure what u mean? I think anyone who watched him play, knows he was one of the best all round players we've seen ( along with Lothar Matius) in the last 50 yrs.. Players now are no where near his standard ( and that goes for football in general)
Was a fan of Rudd from seeing him play for Holland. He was an iconic figure and an inspiration to many youth at the time. And then he came to England, what an era of football that was. Great to see him here.
"Van Gal" "Rudd" "Ten Haag" - is every last Englishman dyslexic? These are not long words. We're talking about four letters in some cases, but apparently even that's too complex.
That explanation on Total Football was great 👍🏾
Ruud doesn't get the credit he deserves, the man was a world class striker ,midfielder and sweeper I can't think of another player who was so effective in 3 roles
Support Striker rather
Cruyff
Ruud's Lotto boots were my first, love his honesty and drive for success. #legend
The 'Stadio' in black with red and silver trimmed Kangaroo leather uppers :))) W@@passat-man2422
A bonafide legend and an icon of the game. Its because of him I've started watching football. Thank you Ruud
Had no idea Ruud was such a good laugh. Ruud's right - you do always assume you have to be serious to be successful but in his case it was all about having an irrepressible belief in himself
He was perfect at Chelsea. Probably the last player to play sweeper. Could get the ball at his feet and play any pass. With Mark Hughes up front he had a player who could pretty much control any ball played to him.
Agreed it was like nothing we had ever seen at the bridge, and he just played the game with such calm and grace. PURE CLASS!!
Well done Simon. This is the best episode yet. I’m a biased Chelsea fan but Ruud is a genuine honest guy. Fantastic player and person. The chemistry between you both was bang on and the conversation flowed effortlessly. Superb. I hope you went round Ruud’s house to ask him to appear on the podcast. Man’s got to feel special you know. 😂
@@neilgoodyer9606 that's because Ruud didn't care but was being himself...regardless
What a legend Ruud is. Fantastic conversation. This and the overlap are the 2 best youtube channels right now. Top work to all involved! 🙌🏽👊🏽
The AC Milan team Gullit played in alongside Marco Van Basten 87-91 is the greatest club side of all time.
Greater than Barcelona and greater than my beloved city
That team was absolutely frightening back then.
Frightening.
🇮🇹
⚽️
I’ve said it many a time the Milan team of the late 80s to mid 90s was absolutely ridiculous best I’ve ever seen
2011 Barca vs 80’s Milan is like Tyson vs Ali.
LOL. No. Just no. @@Instasamps
Disagree.
Milan were the greatest team until '94.
1991-93 went 58 games unbeaten in the toughest league in the world;
1994 - Champions League Final vs. Barcelona 'Dream Team', incl. Koeman, Stoichkov and Romario - beat Barcelona 4-0.
Rudy is one of the best players I've seen live. Seeing him come to Chelsea and play the sweeper role and see how the ball just obeyed his brain and feet, and then the way he got Chelsea playing like id never seen before was amazing. He should have never been sacked by Bates awful decision and I am surprised has not gone onto manage some of the biggest clubs in the world because he is a proper footballer with a intelligent football brain
Mr Bates said that he fired Gullit, because he didn't want to stop playing. Mr. Bates wanted Gullit to coach all the time from the sidelines.
Great interview.
One of my favourite Chelsea players growing up in the 90s along with Vialli, Zola and Wise.
As a Newcastle fan who lived through the Gullit managerial reign, I've always been intrigued by the man and the coach. It went wrong for him at the time but I remember the excitement we felt at the time he was hired and we don't forget he took us to a cup final and brought in Kieron Dyer. He wanted the best for our club, he just went about it the wrong way. I wish he had stayed coaching in English football beyond Newcastle, he was a good character to have around the game. Thank you for this interview, great stuff from a great footballing mind.
He was a prick. Good riddance.
Ruud Gullit was a black captain for Holland wearing the number 10 and winning Euro 88. There was Maradona who was in a league of his own but Gullit wasn’t far behind him. Definitely one of the best players you’ll ever see.
I've learnt one most important thing about Ruud..If you want to win him over then you need to come to his house..😅 Ruud has an amazing sense of humour, great player back in the days.
Thank you for reminding everyone John Stones was once on the bench and forgotten. 2years later, his one of the best players in the world.
My childhood hero!!! He walks the talk. He was great player and he's a great mind. I could listen to him talk for another hour!
One of the greatest from that era. And lit up the Premier League when he arrived even though his best years were behind him.
Jack Reynolds and Vic Buckingham were English trainers of Ajax and I saw a documentary that they laid also the foundation of total football. Of course Michels also. So there is an English link.
A lot of the Newcastle chat in this interview pretty much describes Manchester United right now. Lessons to be learned!
Absolutely fantastic interview. This interview along with John Barnes podcast have been the most informative, interesting and enjoyable to watch.
Ruud spot on as usual. Fergie was famous for visit players parents to show they were wanted.
My best era of watching football…. Rjikard, Van Basten & Gullit in that Milan team…
Football isn't as good to watch now back in the 90s 2000 mid 2000 star players in every club team and national team not nowadays days
@@jrothweldo7 football is dead now...glad to have watched it during those eras you mentioned.....speed merchants is what we have nowadays......I dont know if it's the management tactics or social conditions ( like Brazil) that are change it.
Koeman
Definitely one of the greatest players to ever lace up a pair of boots. So talented, he was world class in so many different positions.
I was 12 when he came Chelsea n I'd never seen a baller like him ,he was waaaaay ahead of any defender or midfielder, he did both at 35 lol elite
Simon had his work cut out there. Like Gullit, principled and says it as it is. Was there a better club side than the AC Milan that played in the 1989 European Cup Final? 5 World Class players in Gullit, Riijkard, Van Basten, Maldini and Baresi.
add Ancelotti and Donadoni :)
@@robertstanley5051 Costacurta as well
at the rightback Tassotti@@djconeuk :) What about Marco Simone?
The whole back 4 was world class and all italian, something Barcelona and Fraudiola could never do
89 was too early for Maldini wasn’t it? Berasi was there then though
Ruud trying to explain what made him so confidence......don't explain it, just accept you are a total one off. What a phenomenal player, even shearer would admit that.
Great and entertaining interview.
Oh man, him Diego and Van Basten were the first players introduced me to the game.
Your best interview by far - and they're all good, Simon. I think you should have had this one as a two parter!!
Best one so far. And many have been good. Great player, great man with a great mind. Thanks Simon
Yeah! Brilliant interview. Ruud is in "rude health" and technically astute in his intelligent analysis of football as he was playing football. I wish you would have talked a bit more about his playing style in comparison with Johan Cruyff? I think they both shared a mesmerising languid style with amazing vision, speed of thought, great first touch and clinical execution at important moments.
Simon being reminded that football was around before Man City was pleasing.
lol true....he forgot he was speaking to one of the greats who played with the greatest
Great interview, world class & don’t you just love the way he reels of the names of so many legends of the game just like they were ordinary guys…
This was my favourite one.. wow Ruud what a guy, loved it
I really enjoyed this conversation - thank you both
What a great episode! A genuine legend of the game and loved the banter.
What an icon this man was 🔥
Greatest player from the 80s & 90s
Him coming to Chelsea was the starting point of us being the club we are today
LOVE U RUDDI
Very interesting interview and I was slightly astounded that Ajax would expect a 15 year old child would sign for them without parental guidance. Guillit made brilliant career choices and that's why he is still in the public eye. Using this interview as a basis of comparison with John Barnes, you find that one player made great choices and the other didn't.
Brilliant and insightful and entertaining (again.) This is the best sports interview series availble, certainly for a UK-based audience.
Gullit is always a good guest. A good pundit and a laugh. And what a player he was.
This was brilliant, I could listen to Ruud speak all day
Great talk. Learned a lot from this.
One of the best footballers ever
Legit world class player
Love this show! Im a rugby loving Kiwi, where Tana Umaga, Ma'a Nonu and Rodney Soialo were my heroes: big powerful pacific men with dreadlocks. So, maybe it makes sense that I was drawn to watch the dreadlocked black footballer from Denmark. Great to hear his story. Thank you.
What a character. Thanks for your time and contribution at Chelsea, and football as a whole, Ruddy
Brilliant interview. Gullit was a beast of a player, fantastic.
Excellent interview ,with an absolute football icon
Johan cruff as a player in his 30’s , the only player in history that manages his own manager and all their staff. Manages the team on the pitch and gives the managers instructions and what to do 😂
A podcast about Ruud Gullit's life. A guy that has no link to man united yet the title is about United.. Why is the whole world obsessed with what's going on at United..
Cause his own Chelsea are a bigger shitshow
Because it’s fantastic watching it implode.
Don’t cry, Man United are actually fortunate they don’t get criticised more. They are a shambles! 🤣🤣
Someone decides what will generate the most clicks. It's not rocket science.
@@MW92. it's hilarious watching you try to spell implode ya goofball
Serie A on channel 4 in the 80's. Gullit mentions great teams except his one, AC & Pepe's Barcelona. What a character ! Vg podcast.
Interviews get better, and better. Top marks guys.
Grande Ruud, che bel'intervista. Ti stimo tantissimo. Pienamente d'accordo "It's coming home" continuate a cantarlo.
Such a cool guy and a joy to watch on the pitch 👌
I always watch these interview when it's about football, I don't bother with the boxing ones as I'm not really into boxing.
Another class act.
Fantastic interview!!! 10/10
Excellent guest and interview again 👍
Gullit was amazingly versatile in a very rare way. Could cut it from a good sweeper, bossing the midfield all the way to a devastating forward up top. I’d only say Di Stefano was more masterful in his completeness.
Rudd should be on Soccer Saturday. Would be a definite upgrade on the current pundits and would offer substance, intelligence and banter.
Ruud Gullit, what a player, simply brilliant. Thoroughly enjoyed his interview with Simon.
Ruud an exceptional man, talent and really bright individual. Great podcast
Great interview with a great footballer.
Sir Simon = Top LAD Proper Clobber 💯 Facts
Ruud Gullit a footballing legend, what a player he was in his peak.

I listen to all these podcasts, this is one of the best, Gullit seems to have that Dutch clarity and also a great sense of humour plus I just love the way the Dutch speak English….. super player….. he and they should have done so much better at Italia 90……
Why the hell is the title all about United when this podcast is meant to be about Ruud Gullit's life??? Unless Ruud Gullit was part of United that we don't know about there's absolutely no reason to mention United but no typical Talksport using United for views. They're literally obsessed with United
Keep up the great work Simon your making all sport’s interesting 😂
This was a brilliant podcast and Ruud is very interesting character i like to hear more from him
Simon needs to realise His experiences are totally anecdotal and NOT the rule. 🎉🎉🎉
Leaving Shearer and Duncan Ferguson out of the Sunderland game and playing 3rd choice Paul Robinson and then getting beat was career suicide for Gullit at Newcastle, there was no way back for him.
Didnt Robinson score and they were winning?
@@liamdonnelly1034 it was Dyer who scored
@@liamdonnelly1034no
Shearer was undermining him and Ruud was not as diplomatic as these days.
This podcast keeps going from strength to strength....Simon Jordan really is BOX OFFICE.
He is when he lets others talk and doesnt answer his own question or interrupt persistantly.
Ruud is the man.Loved watching him play the game and his attitude to life.
Ruud, you blew me away there. Well done on standing up to Simon on the middle east topic.
What a really likeable guy..as well as a phenom of a player
Absolutely great podcast from big ruud.
Total football was the lineage from Michels taken from Jim Buckingham at Ajax and back to the Jimmy Hogan and right back to the way the Scots played the game in its early history.
Cruyff rebirthed it at Barca with his dream team and eventually led to Peps style of football today.
The name ‘Total Football’ was based on a cultural zeitgeist in Holland at the time in the 70s that used the word ‘Total’ across multiple areas like architecture. Some journo used it for the Dutch football and it stuck
Fantastic interview Gents,Ruud I would have loved to have had you play for Arsenal 👏👏👏👍👍👍
Yes 😊
Great watch Simon
That was really good, i really enjoyed that. Its nice when people just tell the truth
“I wanted to be coming in a warm bath.”
- Ruud Gullit
Don't we all
😂
A quintessentially Dutch expression. Patrick Kluivert used it in this mornings Daily Mail interview. I guess these dutch guys like to come in a warm bath
That story of him stopping what he was doing as a kid because he was so happy🇬🇧👊🏼
Claiming Newcastle got Relegated after he left? That was 10 years later 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂😂
I was at one of Ruud's first games as manager, 1996 at home park (Plymouth argyle). Some team that was back then
Such uplifting and joyous individual.
Also , glad we have a level headed real football guy talking facts.
love this ... explaining football to the uninitiated! brilliant stuff
Brilliant interview absolute brilliant Rolls Royce of a player.. Class personified
I think Ruud wrapped up jordan perfectly,
