Got a call from someone in my neighborhood one fall . His son had mistakenly combined the endrows off my cornfield while he was opening up their adjoining field. I said don't worry about it, he said "we'll just leave that much in our field for you to pick." I did the same thing on a different neighbors field a few years later, I know them well, it was the far end of the field, so didn't even tell them ,just left some of mine for them. Talked to him later he said his uncle just laughed when he came upon that spot with the combine.

When I was a child growing up in North Carolina I would see toy playsets of farm equipment with combines and the truck you dump the wheat in among other farm pieces. I could guess what these pieces did but I didn't know for sure. We didn't have farm equipment like that where we lived. It is interesting seeing these pieces in real action.

Hi Kate, it's ok to make mistakes when you recognize that you've made a mistake and correct it. With the size of your fields, it is easy to mistake which field you are on. Nice to see that your father and uncle have so much faith in you that you are put in charge of the work

You are a breath of fresh air Kate. I love Montana and skied Big Sky on two occasions for a week each time. You parents did a great job of raising you and have given you a strong work ethic that will serve you well throughout your lifetime. I had an aunt that had 3,000 acres in Scobey, Montana, her and her husband raised wheat and cattle. they have since passed and their daughter and her husband sold the farm and bought a bowling alley in Scobey.
Kate you rock! Maybe farmers should plant a 20-foot pole at each corner of their fields and paint it a different color so that there isn't any question about what field you are in?

Back in 1977 my boss purchased a first generation 1440 International Axial Flo combine. There was a service rep from the dealership with us almost every other day dialing this prototype in. Once broke in it was a thrill to pick corn as the speed compared to the old 915 we were going a little over 2 MPH and with this new1440 over 4 MPH in 200 bushel / acre corn. I was in high school driving a $76,000 dollar combine, thanks to my boss for trusting me with this machine and giving me one of the best memories of my life and thank you for taking me back there watching you today.

It's cool that you self analyze every grain dump always trying to get it perfect. It reminds me that as a child (60 years ago) when I was mowing lawns I was always trying to get every line the lawnmower made perfect and take as few a steps as absolutely possible. Nothing else to do but analyze every step. I have great memories working with my dad as well. The first few times you are forced to think and act on your own will be preeminently burned into your memory :o)

You are lucky it was not a much worse screw up. Everything looks the same in the middle of nowhere. Your dad is a smart man, and you are sponging off his impressive experiences. He is preparing you any would be trouble, before it happened. That makes you very lucky and well prepared. I very sure he knows how much you miss him and you love him. Do you have any other family besides dad, grampa and uncle? Siblings? I enjoyed watching you harvesting, and could feel how worried you were at the start. Thank you, yes they are. I miss many of them that I let go. Right now I have 12 canaries, 4 gouldians (getting 2more females in Oct), 2 star finches, 2 zebra finches couples, 1 black cheek zebra couple, 3 pure white finches, and 8 society finches, mom and dad and their offsprings.

It's alright, Kate. You got your mistake corrected and that's all that really matters. Don't let anyone try to convince you that they haven't made mistakes or had trouble. I used to think when we would have trouble with equipment or if something went wrong that we were the only ones. I've learned that everyone makes those mistakes and has those problems, too. The only difference between our problems is that I know about mine but not theirs.

We've all worked wrong fields at some point Kate, I mowed out 40 acres of silage belonging to the wrong farm years ago.... I got lacerated for it!! But I t was sorted out.... not to worry you're handling the operation very well.
WOW WOW The best video ever!! For the rest of all readers,,,have you noticed how Kate has EXPLODED !! in this video??? WOW, shes come alive for sure, taking charge, managing the whole situation and decisions and surprises as they pop up to effectively and efficiently handle it for all concerned! Shes in a million dollar machine, driving, making harvest decisions based on dads training and her experiences and instructing us all along the way of what its all about, then goes home to edit tapes for us! HEr camera placements looking inside the cab, the controls, and all the outside views really help in our understanding. Ive noticed the new Kate is coming out strongly! She doesnt look or act the same, maturity is beginning to show through in a big way!! Im sure her coworkers on the farm, and her contacts in town are impressed in a great way. I never knew it before, but coming back home to MT in September has a sweet smell of wheat in the air. It's easy to forget about the logistics of food. "Two young fish are swimming along. An old fish swims past and says that the water is nice this time of year. The young fish pass in silence. Finally one turns to the other and asks 'what's water?'"
We had a guy opening up an 80 one time and he ended up going around a quarter. We thought that wheat was really good until we figured out he was combining the neighbors too

It's alright, Kate. You got your mistake corrected and that's all that really matters. Don't let anyone try to convince you that they haven't made mistakes or had trouble. I used to think when we would have trouble with equipment or if something went wrong that we were the only ones. I've learned that everyone makes those mistakes and has those problems, too. The only difference between our problems is that I know about mine but not theirs.

We've all worked wrong fields at some point Kate, I mowed out 40 acres of silage belonging to the wrong farm years ago.... I got lacerated for it!! But I t was sorted out.... not to worry you're handling the operation very well.

WOW WOW The best video ever!! For the rest of all readers,,,have you noticed how Kate has EXPLODED !! in this video??? WOW, shes come alive for sure, taking charge, managing the whole situation and decisions and surprises as they pop up to effectively and efficiently handle it for all concerned! Shes in a million dollar machine, driving, making harvest decisions based on dads training and her experiences and instructing us all along the way of what its all about, then goes home to edit tapes for us! HEr camera placements looking inside the cab, the controls, and all the outside views really help in our understanding. Ive noticed the new Kate is coming out strongly! She doesnt look or act the same, maturity is beginning to show through in a big way!! Im sure her coworkers on the farm, and her contacts in town are impressed in a great way. Shes gonna be greatly missed in that community and more so at home when she heads off to college! Ill bet shes makes a strong impact there! Beauty to the extreme, humble, yet capable, intelligent but not demanding!! Just wait until she reports on the college guys and girls and instructors she meets!! Mrs. Vicarri here. Keep going Kate. You have set this family back on it’s heals. We’re amazed by you. You are a standard for others Kate. I never knew it before, but coming back home to MT in September has a sweet smell of wheat in the air. It's easy to forget about the logistics of food. "Two young fish are swimming along. An old fish swims past and says that the water is nice this time of year. The young fish pass in silence. Finally one turns to the other and asks 'what's water?'"
