In today's video, I am on my last day and part of rolling the Chickpeas or Garbanzo beans. I look at the field I harvested last year where all the hawks were. That was such a spectacular thing to see! Oh NO my tractor starts overheating and is running out of fuel. I stop and let it idle and I call Grandpa. Grandpa says "Shut the tractor off." Uncle Chris comes over to check things out. He explains that I need to run in a lower gear because the tractor is pulling harder in this field that slopes up and down. I did break down because the tractor overheated and that was a big mistake!! I learned a lot today!! This is the real thing and not a farming simulator! Uncle Chris sends Austin and me to get the fuel truck. What a day on our family farm in Montana! Thank you so much for watching!!!!! Byeeeeeee!!!!

My Story…
Hello. My name is Kate Stephens, and I am a 17-year-old 4th generation Montana farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north-central Montana since my great grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was two years old. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm, and I hope that my Farm to Fashion and Farm to Table products can help educate people about where their food comes from in a fun way. That is how Kate's Ag - Farm to Fashion became a reality. I hope you love my products as much as I do because this is an extension of our farm and the grains we have been growing to feed other families for over one hundred years.
If i had been operating the tractor ,i would have made the same mistake. because you have to look at everything thing like rollers, tractor postion, speed, gears, all the turning corners etc which is quite challenging for beginners.but kate you handled that very well.. so so proud of you! you're the best!!!

with the over heating issue ,in dusty conditions the radiator on the tractor, combine or other machinery sucks in alot of dust and needs blown out regularly to keep it at normal temperature. There's also a gauze over the radiator to stop big particles being sucked in you can slide it out with the engine off and bump or brush it clean I'm sure your dad and uncle will know this though keep up the good work Kate happy farming

I think it's great to see a young woman who works very hard at a job there's no doubt she will make an excellent farmer and owner when her father retires I find her to be very intelligent young woman and she will be successful one day I'm very proud to see a young person work hard when so many young people today are lazy and don't care keep up the good work

Don't let this get you down! Where there is planing, shavings fall. That's what we say here. If you don't make mistakes, you don't work, and you learn from mistakes. I think there is no machine that can never break down, that also applies to us humans. I will get a new knee, for example on June 9th, 2022. The left knee is now completely worn out due to osteoarthritis. Many things can be repaired, especially machines. In any case, the tractor is like new again after a repair!
We used to get in a lot of trouble when we broke something on the machines. We often repaired damage ourselves when we were able to do it. If not, you just had to listen to the lecture, you got angry, and often at yourself. Which in some situations just wasn't right. But it has encouraged us to pay attention so that nothing breaks. And at work you don't actually break anything willfully. Especially if you love what you do.
Keep going, don't let it get you down, and always do your best. Whatever you do, as you can see. Above all, work on your career! Maybe that will bring you to Germany too. It would be nice to see and get to know you in person. You'll make it, I'm sure!

I am very happy for what you did. When you saw a problem w/ the tractor, you stopped, called your grandpa, he told you what to do, and he sent you help. When your uncle showed up, he explain the problem to you better for future issues. I really need that kind of knowledge and respect of the equipment here on my ranch. When I read the titsl for todays video I was unshure of what to expect. But good old Uncle Chris came through and you didn't do any harm.LOL . I got you another follower today, I was talking to a friend today about you and your videos, and when her and her now husband met, she was a farm girl just like you. so when they got married, him being a farm boy naturally they maintained a farm until she decided to follow her second calling and became a nurse. We have had heating problems because sometimes the engine RPM is to low for the fan to work properly keep the engine at about 1800 rpm . John Deere IVT s can be bad for that . Also hi range is for light work only . Hills are a hard pull.You will save the transmission by working in low range whenever possible . Read the book young lady .

Hawks are out all over the Hudson Valley of NY. Their young are just hatching here, and the parents are gathering rodents etc. for them. More than likely same out there. Keep farming and listen to Dad, and crew and you will do great.

I don't know how exactly the JD engines work, but when you get overheat warnings in trucks, without visually observing steam coming out of the engine block, you should always let it run on idle, so that all the pumps keep moving oil and water through the engine. With that said the next thing is always to visually check the meters of oil and water level, when such a problem occurs and it will occur again and again. You're great, keep making content Kate!

Great you noticed the warning on the screen and uncle Chris was able to help you! It must be a nightmare when things don't work! I know all about it, my car broke down. It will be fixed. It will take four weeks till I get the car back again. I guess that would not be possible on the farm, missing a tractor for such a long time. The chain in the engine is broken.

I was surprised with all the advances in electronics and programming that any modern tractor does not have clear visual and audible warnings that the power band is being exceeded long before overheating or inefficient fuel use occurs.
There is a sensor that detects low coolant level that derates power before it overheats

@@gregkoenig9200 Yes but that is after the fact or a serious coolant leak. I'm talking about efficient power management and prevention monitoring measures long before overheating occurs with a full coolant system.
@@johnnybarbar7435 no it isn't if coolant just gets low in the reservoir it triggers it
@@gregkoenig9200 Sorry I was not as clear as I needed to be. Kate's issue was lugging up slope in high range causing engine overheating to begin. I was addressing a programmed audible and visual warning that this specific situation was occurring long before any overheating showed up.

This past week I was out in my garden and it was very quiet and peaceful and then I heard a loud CRACK! Above me. I look up to see a huge bird flying away with something long in its talons.
Turns out it’s an osprey, and he and his partner were snapping off dry branches on my dead tree in the tree line while they flew by it. Then they took them to the dryer leg on the farmers grain bins across the road and dropped them on the top platform! They were at it again today! So cool!

Using these flat rollers with sun heat and rain bakes the ground and doesn't let the rain get into the ground we use now what's called Cambridge rollers they have groves on them type of weather we get haven't used flat rollers for years,🏴🏴🏴🏴
Well done Kate, keeping a constant eye on those guages and an ear out for any changes, is your best "tool" in the toolbox, and if in doubt, sing out as you so wisely did! Having had tugs, barges and cranes etc. I have found in most cases "they" will always let you know in advance when they need some attention before going to have an "off-day". Again, a huge WOW from New Zealand, as I still cannot get over just how big your part of the world is!

It was 100 with wind to 40 MPH as your Montana air plowed into our plains. Thunderstorm winds to 80 --90 MPH and 107 MPH west of Sioux Falls created a dust storm which closed part of I80 with zero visibility and wrecked trucks. Aus some wall of dust was fun to watch.
Then a thunderstorm gave us rain and more wind.
Catherine feared a tornado and insisted her parents needed to call me before they left for a school fundraiser. I told her there would be no tornado. Later she asked what causes the quiet before the storm.
Today the weather service will give me a plaque recognizing my 40 years as an observer. Our late son used to tease that I was older than dirt. Maybe he was right . 40 years is a long time but I feel 20.

I'm just figuring out what type of shock absorbers fitted in the driver's seat!
1.Spring shock absorbers or
2. Air suspension shock absorbers!
If there was a spring shock absorbers then it will definitely launched you out of the tractor's cabin if you encounter any big bumps in the fields! LOL

Thank you for the video. Interesting the large drop off hill where the hawks were. I tend to think of farm land as flat or rolling. The large of number of hawks was interesting as well.
