Just a point of reference: formaldehyde is what most coffee companies use to decaffeinate their beans. Its possible to do it with water, but they choose poison instead. I buy beans and grind them myself...but NEVER is it decaf.
They do use formaldehyde to treat wood in furniture and new clothes fresh off the factory line. That's why it's important to always wash those crisp new clothes you get from Target, Forever 21, Walmart, etc.
A few years after I had my thyroid out, the hospital asked me if it was ok to use it in research. I was surprised that they still had it as I'd assumed it had been incinerated. I said, "Do what you like with the *******, I don't want anything to do with it after the trouble it caused me." We really are all different.
I didn’t think they could say no. It belongs to you. They were likely very strongly “suggesting” , cuz that’s how they do. Too bad you didn’t get to keep yours.
Yeah you ought to look into where things like that go and what they do with our parts and pieces. If they’re taking a leg , you can’t really get that now. It’s a whole web of things that our body parts or organs go thru, depending on multiple factors.
aw that sucks. LA, GA, and MS won't let you. idk about countries outside the US. and sometimes hospitals just don't have a practice in place. would've been a neat keepsake. hopefully you never need to lose another part, but if you do, i hope you find a place that lets you keep it!
I think it depends on the state you live in, and the condition of the body parts when they plan to release them. If they are generally healthy with no issues they let you keep them, but if there are abnormal tissues or growths on them, they keep them to destroy or study. They wouldn't let me keep my tonsils and claimed it was a health hazard and no longer allowed, but Ive heard other people in my state keeping their parts! However, when my tonsils had to come out at the age of 21 because I kept coughing up blood, the doctors said "they were the largest he had ever seen and he didnt know how I was even able to breathe." They were so swollen and infected they actually started growing down my throat. I think they lied to me so they could keep them and study them 😑, or they had to discard them due to infected tissue maybe. They wouldn't even let me see them 😢, I just woke up in a room after coming off anesthesia lol.

it's really not that deep. I'm not sensitive; I just think you're overreacting. Clearly, this woman was never told that the preservative used for her uterus is dangerous. Doctors should just tell people that it's okay to look but not touch. But it's not crazy to be morbidly fascinated with body parts that have been removed from you. Certain lash glue for strip lashes has formaldehyde in it as well (Duo is a brand that comes to mind that lists formaldehyde among it's ingredients in very fine print on the back of the tube). It cant be good to put that on your eyelid every day, since it is a carcinogen. I no longer really wear lashes often, but if you do wear them especially daily, please be aware of this! I definitely recommend using a glue with natural ingredients there's lots of natural options. Theres one from the brand Kiss with Biotin that's dermatologist approved and it says Formaldehyde- free right on the package. Women often dont realize lash glue contains formaldehyde (understandably so as I never imagined it would be in lash glue either). Many dont think to read the ingredients. I dont see why it was ever included as an ingredient or what purpose it serves in a lash glue.... Or why glues are still made that contain it. But please check your lash glue!!

Once, a few years back,I had to swallow a huge pill camera (diagnostic tool to determine why kept forming ashesions and small bowel obstructions. I've had 8 major abdominal surgeries and 4 sb resections). The nurse at the GI practice kept strongly saying there was no way I still had this camera inside me after 5-6 months, but i was adamant it had not passed. (If i had an MRI during that time. It would've been like a gun fired from inside my abdominal cavity, my drs later revealed. Probably resulting in instant death). I knew i had not passed this thing and was scheduled for yet another open laparotomy procedure. Therefore, I asked the general surgeon to look for the pill camera while in there and save it for me. I was pleasantly surprised when I awoke from surgery and was handed this pill camera. I do still have it too, in one of my jewelry boxes. One of the coolest surgeons ever!! Luckily, it is not in any kind of formaldehyde ,just in a plastic bag.
A lot of lab specimens are actually stored long term in alcohol. The initial preservation is done with formaldehyde, but that doesn't mean you should still touch it with bare hands.
I worked in a theatre where somebody dropped a jar of formaldahyde, we had to continue the surgery with tears streaming. It was painful not being able to rub your eyes.
It's awful when it happens in the OR (or theatre). In many situations they can't kick on the ventilation because it might kick up particles that would contaminate the field. Just have to sweep it up and wait it out.
Uh, I saw a uterus in at work today. Very fascinating. Also formaldehyde can irritate and burn the skin and lead to brown skin spots and can damage your eyes permanently (depending of exposure time and of course concentration) the fumes can cause also cause headaches and sometimes even asthma like symptoms.
Nothing. People have always been curious about these things. While I wouldn't touch it without an actual professional making sure I'm not endangering myself, looking at organs and stuff has been fascinating humans for centuries. There's a difference between that and breathing in/soaking your fingers in pure formaldehyde though. Kinda like how cyanide is found in >2000 plant species, many of which we eat, but it's not even close to enough to kill us despite how toxic it can be in higher concentrations.

Hair stylists used to clean with it all the time. Our kids are hacking off their body parts and think they are animals, this woman is the least of anyone's problems.
I learned about this recently in my nursing practices. I was lucky that the Nurse literally wanted to take me anywhere in the whole floor lmao. he told me "we use gloves when doing this and you also should use a mask. I do not have a mask right now, so I have to be quick and not smell anything, the smell can make you lightheaded or have a headache. The liquid I am pouring into the tissue is called Formaldehyde, very toxic hence why we have to take the precautions. This preserves the tissue until we send it to the lab and get it checked out."
As a retired RecoveryRoom/SICU RN, I’m wondering if she was sent from the OR with body parts in 🤚🏻, hanging from the gurney or around her neck like fresh ghoulish jewelry or perhaps taped to the bandage where formerly housed. Exactly how was the transfer of this newly “out of body experience” handled? I had a warm & freshly removed uterus thrown at & hit me in the chest during an operation by an angry surgeon who didn’t like the way I handed him the instruments; I didn’t slap them into his hand hard enough. He thus provided an example of his desired pressure via the uterus projectile🙄 I never dealt post-operatively with a set of organs as an accoutrement.

Doctors and nurses just say you arent allowed to. Your uterus is not more of a "biohazard" than a sausage from a store. And maybe hers is in alcohol and not formaldehyd
They let my grandma keep her kidney stones in a jar in her room….
They usually don’t? I saw a different person say they wanted their body parts for religious reasons so they could keep stuff after surgery.
@@crimsonroseI believe in religion is to be buried whole so yeah keeping a body part isn't bad. Its a part of you and belonged to you so you should be allowed to keep it with you for reasons unless you can't.

We really are all different.
The dentist wouldn't let me keep my wisdom teeth 😡

Why am i seeing all these ppl able to keep their body parts but i couldn't keep my lil ol' heart valve?? 😭
aw that sucks. LA, GA, and MS won't let you. idk about countries outside the US. and sometimes hospitals just don't have a practice in place. would've been a neat keepsake.
hopefully you never need to lose another part, but if you do, i hope you find a place that lets you keep it!
If your new valve was placed via catheter, the old one doesn’t get removed.
The orthodontist let me keep the 5 teeth the extracted before I got my braces on. They even cleaned them up a bit for me :)

it's really not that deep. I'm not sensitive; I just think you're overreacting. Clearly, this woman was never told that the preservative used for her uterus is dangerous. Doctors should just tell people that it's okay to look but not touch.
But it's not crazy to be morbidly fascinated with body parts that have been removed from you. That's why so many people choose to keep removed body parts to begin with.
