    The Lightbee X is Surron’s flagship bike. The first model was introduced in 2017 and it was 2019 when the bike hit the US market. There have been some updates to the battery, motor and specific hard parts, but overall, the Lightbee is largely unchanged since its introduction. It comes in with a super low seat height of 32.6 inches, weighs 123 pounds and has a current MSRP of $4,500. I think it’s the best bike to teach new riders, male or female, young or old, and the best all around bike that almost everyone can have fun on.
    The Ultra Bee is bigger, faster and more off-road oriented than the Lightbee. It has a seat height of 35.8 inches, weighs 187 pounds and has a current MSRP of $6,500. A point that I really want to drive home with the Surron Ultra Bee is that it is a really easy, laid back bike to ride, especially when you’re in the low power modes. A lot of the DNA of the Lightbee carries over into this Surron Ultra Bee, making it a super playful, agile bike, but off road riders that are wanting more out of their Lightbee or those that are used to riding traditional dirt bikes will really appreciate the upgrades on this model. The bigger battery provides more capacity, its full size seat and more natural ergonomics, paired with proper dirt bike components, makes this bike feel like a more competitive option.
    The Storm Bee is the biggest bike in the lineup, weighing 280 pounds, with a seat height of 37 inches and an MSRP of $8,500. You would think that the performance would be a step up on each of these models but I would debate that theory once we get to the Surron Storm Bee. Despite the fact that the Storm has the most power, full size moto suspension and a 21 inch front and 18 inch rear wheel combo, it also has the most weight, by a long shot. All of that makes for a strong machine but I still think the Ultra Bee is the more sporty option.

    I tried the LBX about 1.5 years ago. It was too small for me and I wasn't keen on the mods needed to fit me. I'm 187cm (6' 1.5") and 85kg (187 lbs) with a long torso. A while later, a used pre-release Storm Bee became available. I rode it, loved it and bought it. It's an awesome bike for my size and style. I don't do motocross tracks but we have endless open country to explore in Mongolia. So it works well for that. However, it's limited by its height and weight to less technical trails.
    So a few weeks ago, I added the Ultra Bee which inspires more confidence in me to take on steep, technical trails. Whereas, I'd tip over on the Storm Bee, I can catch the Ultra Bee before I drop it. It's so light for me and lower which really helps on steep hills.
    I love them both and I'm glad I can afford both. They are also cheaper to buy in Mongolia by about $1200 or so because we are next door to China. I paid $5200 OTD for the Ultra Bee (new) and $7200 for the Storm Bee (used).

    I’ve had a Light Bee for 4 years. I recently upgraded to a 72 Volt/BAC 4000. I’m 80 and I like the light weight. I live in a small town in Idaho(Twin Falls)and wish there was a local shop that had some expertise on electric propulsion systems. Idaho just got a Zero dealer (Idaho Falls). I’ve had 3 Sondors Ebikes and bought a Metacycle. Not happy with it! The SurRon is more fun. If the UltraBee had been available I probably would’ve gotten it. Thanks for the info/video.

  • @surronsd

    Ultrabee is for sure my next bike, next size up and much more bang for the buck over the lightbee for off-roading purposes at least. Brakes and suspension not being MTB based is a huge factor I feel needs to be considered. Being over 100lbs lighter then stormbee is a huge for keeping bike light and nimble.

      @johnbrown562 Před rokem +7

      I agree with you. After owning a light bee for around a year and a half i think it would be cool to upgrade to the ultra bee. However a big problem that is see with it is the looks. I live in the suburbs of chicago, riding through parks, streets and the bike path. But the ultra bee just wouldnt fit in, in my area, it looks too much like a dirt bike to fly under the radar.

    • @surronsd
      @surronsd Před rokem +4

      @@johnbrown562 yep and that’s why each bike has different traits that suit the individual rider. The smaller lightbee is more stealthy and more suited for urban scenarios, while still being an amazing tight single track ripper, but the caveat to it is that is uses under powered MTB brakes and suspension. The ultra bee while being less stealthy has all the things a lot of us lightbee owners have always wanted, motorcycle brakes, bigger beefier suspension, a more traditional moto style seat, a wider frame to bite down onto.

    StormBee looks like an E-Husqvarna. I really want one, but you couldn’t take it to the dunes, or mud without the batteries being depleted quickly. Seems like E-bikes still have a long ways to go before they truly can compete with a petrol burning bike.
    Still they look incredibly fun, and I would love a Surron for exploring smaller trails or adventuring around locally.

    Another gr8 review! With more videos like this, the easier it will be for riders to make a better choice. For me the LB is an electric mountain bike - and the others would be classed as electric motorcycles. For urban riders with no garage, you may need to be able to easily lift and carry the battery out the LB to charge up and charging even on AC household is about 3 hours. Taller riders would most likely naturally go for the other two bikes :)

    Light Bee for me. I'm interested in an "e-bike" eventually, but recently got rid of my townie/hard-tail mtn bike since the riding vs. storage-hassle was too much. I saw some videos of these things getting fully submerged and riding away. It's not particularly in the budget for me, but I could see having a, mostly-waterproof, motorcycle. It would need to be "light enough" to load onto the frame of a standard 14' whitewater raft, preferably as a solo. (It's likely you would have some ramps/racks/straps that would serve multiple purposes between the bike/raft anyhow). You would still need a duo partner to avoid leaving the raft or bike un-attended for some portion of the shuttle operation. Solo-shuttle could be possible in the right time/place, but having a long-distance bike could save having to bring two vehicles/trailers and the associated logistics in either event. (river shuttle logistics are funny enough without extra people, vehicle, or trailer requirements. A typical 14' expedition-raft weighs about 200 lbs, between the frame and rubber, and comfortably weighs around 1200-1300 lbs with gear and liquids on launch day for a week-long trip. Your group size per boat, and desired level of luxury will dictate this weight, but I figure there's plenty of weight capacity for a bike and rack on my boat for a day trip...and beyond.

    Ultra Bee for me as I'm a larger rider. I own an LBX and its too small for my liking but I mostly bought it for my 15 year old. I'm not sure if I want to sell it and get a Talaria Mx4 (2 inches taller + more power) or sell it and get an Ultra Bee since my LBX only has about 200 miles on it and is less than a year old and pretty much mint. What mods would you do on the Ultra to improve it? It seems pretty solid from factory but curious as to your thoughts.

  • @wetlifesports
    @wetlifesports Před rokem +2

    Yes, tried the light, too small. I'm 5'10" 165lbs. It seemed like a kids bike. The Storm, imo, is a pig, way too heavy! I bought a Electric Motion Escape and love it at 183lbs. Just ordered the Ultra 187lbs!! , very excited about spec, weight and size, seems perfect. I enjoy super techy rides. Bought a Beta 300 Xtrainer for riding in Moab this second with friends on ktm300s. Just got injured yesterday, sitting out now, sucks!!!! If I had EME there would be no injury. Beta is great, needed the range but EME will crush it when you hit the toughest rock climbs. Hoping the Ultra is a great techy trail bike too.

    Thanks for another video on the Ultra Bee. Just have a question regarding the top heaviness of the ultra bee compared it's similar sized petrol counterparts like ktm 200exc,150exc, other and other 150cc type 4/2 strokes. How is the weight distributed compared to these bikes?

    • @ElectricCycleRider
      @ElectricCycleRider  Před rokem +2

    I just ordered my Ultra Bee after building out my Light Bee, and I'm quite excited to get the Ultra Bee build kicked off

    • @ElectricCycleRider
      @ElectricCycleRider  Před rokem +4

      @Philip Pinto Great question! We're sorting out parts for the Ultra as we speak and will have options at ECR Parts [ parts.electriccyclerider.com/ ] when they're ready.
      In order of importance to me, I'm going to say 21/18 wheel combo, suspension mods/upgrade, and a controller. I don't think the bike needs a ton more power, so it may be possible to utilize the stock battery, but we'll see once we try a controller. It's putting out 12.5kW peak right now and I think 15-18kW would make it amazing.
      Trying out the 21/18 wheel combo this coming week and will report on that, with suspension and X9000 controller soon to follow! Should be fun. With those mods, I think the Ultra will be a pretty incredible bike.

    Did you ever decide to do a motocross up fit to the storm bee?
    I ask because I ended up selling my Ultra Bee since it felt small for me. Being 61 200 pounds and chasing my son around now that he is riding the bigger tracks at Glen, Helen and Fox Raceway. I almost need a bigger bike. The days of 50 tracks and being able to easily keep up with him are coming to an end.
    I know the stark is available and mine should be here in January if I choose to pull the trigger, but the premium price has me wondering if I should just get some good race suspension under a storm bee

    I have owned a TRX450 and rode a lot of quad bikes and BMX'ed a little as a kid. I moved into skateboarding and even built an E board but now im in my 30's and trick skating is just too hard on my back. My wallet is fat these days and even my 7 year old E board shocked me with the range and performance so I knew a nice ebike would be stellar. Soooooo my first motorcycle is gonna be an Ultra Bee!!! I still stand by it: the Sur Ron is the most fun bike I have ever ridden. I have a YZ250, WR250R with dirts and supermotos. Rode a FZ-07, Ninja 400, 636, Harley, Grom, Monkey, Buell, CRF450, TTR125, etc.
    It’s just a ridiculously fun bike. Quiet enough to do stupid stuff whenever wherever. Still fast enough to blend with traffic and commute.
    The Light Bee is so compact and fun. Fits inside a BMW 435i Gran Coupe. It’s light and nimble. Ultra Bee looks solid and it’s lighter than a YZ250.
    But the Storm Bee, 280lbs…. No thanks. The WR250 is a lot of work off road and it’s just too heavy for now I enjoy riding. Ultra Bee is a solid winner if you got the cash. OG Sur Ron is gonna be a classic.

      Thanks for the info. I'm just concerned the Light Bee, or Ultra Bee is just not as sturdy enough for any faster passed jumping - like a YZ250 on a Vet MX track unless the rider is very light, about 150# or less. I don't know if the 19" wheels are an issue for riders comfortable with the 21/18s?
