    Happy new year everyone! A new year brings the same potential as any other day, just with a bit more celebratory significance behind it. Regardless, I have plenty of projects in the works, including live streaming again. Anyways, hope to see you all in the new year, stay safe y'all!

    Quite late but if anyone stumbles across this video then use me as a reference as I have used all 3. Akko Mod007, GMMK Pro and Keychron Q1.
    Tier list:
    1st place, Akko Mod007v2: Great budget board, comes with foams, decent coiled cable, PE Foam, PCB Foam, Plate Foam and even a Polycarbonate plate! Great acoustics once it's modded well with things like Tape Mod, Force Break mod, PE Foam mod, Paper Towel Mod, etc. Only caveat is that it has north-facing PCB and it's stock stabs are plate mounted but it's great that it supports screw-in stabs.
    2nd place, Keychron Q1: Again, great value for the board itself, comes with an even better coiled cable than Akko and even has a small aviator cable. Stock stabs are Gateron screw-in and they are of course factory lubed. They are quite decent. Again, fullest potential comes with mods. Sound is great. Bad part is that it only comes with an Alu plate and you have to purchase the other plates separately and not to mention it has a very bad pinging problem. Just use the force break mod by "Keybored" and it instantly goes away, super easy too.
    Trash tier, GMMK Pro: Absolute dog-water. Extremely stiff typing experience, extremely muted, terrible stock stabs, MORE expensive than the other 2 despite it being absolute dog-water. You're only paying for the brand if you buy this. DO NOT buy this board, you are just gonna be wasting your money. It would've been fine if this board was CHEAPER than the other 2 but it's not. It's trash, please don't waste your money on this. I have nothing good to say bout this one.

      My first somewhat high quality keyboard is from akko, absolutely love this thing and it only cost me like $80. I've used $200-300 dollar gaming keyboards at conventions (and a couple decently pricey enthusiast boards) and this is still one of the best feeling keyboards ive ever typed on. LOVE akko

    Good comment about that stabs... I had durock v2 screw in stabs and could not get them to fit with the stock aluminum plate (didn't try the FR4). Even after a bit of sanding the sides of the stabs, it still took a bit to get one of the stab sets to fit tightly. Ended up replacing them with some Everglide panda plate stabs instead. Sidenote: stock stabs are pretty good for being stock stabs, still need to relube though imho

    After this, I can't imagine why you would choose the GMMK pro. After mods (easy and cheap - force breaker, tape, PE foam) this thing sounds great. The only reason I could see someone going with the GMMK pro is if they dont know this thing exists, or they need the side RGB lighting. Nice vid!

    • @Bagus-101
      @Bagus-101 Před 2 lety +1

      Probably the north facing PCB is deal breaker. You are either forced to use long pole switches or non cherry profile keycaps for no interference typing experience.

    • @little_fluffy_clouds
      @little_fluffy_clouds Před 2 lety

      There is another reason to choose the GMMK Pro. This board doesn’t have an ISO version and as a UK-based keyboard user, that’s a deal breaker for me.
      I went for the Keychron Q1 (knob version) and the GMMK Pro just because they support ISO layouts

    I want to build a relatively quiet, muted kb and been considering the gmmk pro vs this one. Gonna use boba U4s. While I like the color options on this much better, from reading around it seems to me that the GMMK pro starts off as quieter. I would like the flex that this one has though. Hows the modding potential to make either one quiter?

      For about $150, I'd rather buy the Q1 and save myself the headache of interference.
      Why Akko went for the north orientation is a mystery to me. People buying $150 barebone kit boards are usually grown-ups who don't give a damn about whether an LED is a bit shinier the other way round or not.

      @kiryuski Před 2 lety

    • @kuyt20
      @kuyt20 Před 2 lety +2

      @@kiryuski - I can understand why they went north-facing from a purely business perspective. But I think the majority of the people who can't live without the pretty little lights are on the younger side and will be more attracted to more popular expensive pre-builts like Anne Pro, Ducky, Razer, Corsair, Logitech, etc. even if they were to look into boards at this price range.
      Hell, I wished my board didn't come with any LED and shaved $15 off its price in the process. And this is already a pretty cheap board to begin with. LOL

    @neogem200 Před 2 lety

    I like that there is another option for an alu 75%, including two diffrent plates is a nice thing but the north facing switches and lack of via support are negtatives but no deal breakers. I have been waiting on the q1 to release their white version for months and it seems to finally be happening this month, but I was also considering the pink version of the 007 if the white never released.

    • @jdtechgear
      @jdtechgear  Před 2 lety

      Same here, alu is a good all-rounder, however I've been preferring FR4 for a lot of my linear builds. I do wish there was VIA support, however I don't use it enough for key binding or shortcuts to warrant a deal breaker from me. I hope they release a a proper white Q1 as opposed to the GMMK Pro which was a silver.

    Did you screw in all 6 case screws or just the 4 in the corners? My board does not flex like that even though I am using polyfill. Although, I am using the poron plate foam. Do you think the plate foam reduces the flex by a lot?

  • @wearetotallymid
    @wearetotallymid Před 2 lety +1

    I'm waiting for my mod007 to come in. I really like the sound your endresult makes! Does removing the plate foam do that much? Now I'm debating if I should do that as well. 🤔

    • @jdtechgear
      @jdtechgear  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you! Removing the plate foam does a good job muting the ping, I chose to go without it since I wanted to hear the clack sound characteristics coming from the switches. It will depend on what switches you're going for and if you want a muted experience. I like the fact I can take out the plate foam without too much consequence, which can't be said for the GMMK pro as it would be really metallic in sound.

    • @wearetotallymid
      @wearetotallymid Před 2 lety

      @@jdtechgear yeah I like the clackyness from your build. I'm getting akko jelly blacks with the top housing from jelly whites (for rgb but I think its the same material), already a clacky switch but I'm going to try the no plate foam method to see if it enhances the sound 💪🏻

    • @jdtechgear
      @jdtechgear  Před 2 lety +1

      There's a lot of good resources on CZcams for a silent board, but usual picks would include a silent linear switch, like Dolphin switches or Roselios. Using the included plate foam, adding poly-fill, and properly sound treating your stabilizers and switches as well.
