The term you're looking for is "grokable". To grok: "understand (something) intuitively or by empathy". It's commonly used it design to describe elements that don't need explaining or tutorials, they're immediately understandable.

- Don't make a map with countless angles
- Don't overcomplicate it, make it simple.

warowl: says Anubis and chlorine should be in the first 2
valve: how bout they should be in the official map pool
This map got added to csgo :D
As always, WarOwl, this is a 10/10 video once again. Great work!
Anubis is a beautiful map and your critique of it is why I am always so intrigued by map design and how much thought must go into it. I would imagine that to make a map competitively viable would require hundreds or thousands of hours to define every angle and make it clear to the person playing where they can expect enemy players to be. Things like marking doorways which would be invisible to the person peeking down a long hallway (think peeking down that weird sideways kind-of-but-not-really mid in office where you expect someone to be able to come out at the end of the hallway but on your first viewing you would miss that there's another closer door someone can peek from), making things just far enough apart to be passable by two or three people (so one person can't block everyone) but close enough that a single smoke can easily block it (I'm looking at you, CT to B Dust 2). It just seems like a ton of effort which is completely lost on the player as you don't even really notice it while playing.
I love the idea of de_aztec remakes. Also the Chinese one looks baller.
There's something that these maps are missing, something that they need to become a popular map...
THE THING THEYRE MISSING IS NOT BEING NEW
Exactly. Yes the angles are nonintuitive and unexpected, but you can get used to them after playing it a bit. It's actually a good thing, that the map doesn't play like any other.
@@Janskill I don't know, the maps in this video in some areas have way too many spots to check before going forward, and what he said at 7:14 is right for every single map in the video, not just anubis.
They are not ready for competitive at all, but can be worked on

Not fast enough
I feel like a lot of the maps that are in the competitive map pool right now share a lot of the same features.
- They have an unique theme (Desert town, italian/spanish village, nuclear reactor, skyscraper, etc).
- Before a bomb site there is always a chokepoint. So intuitively you already know you are going to get to the bomb site whenever you cross that chokepoint. (Think monster in Overpass, out of tunnels in Dust 2)
- CTs can hold these choke points from different angles (like 4-7 depending on which chokepoint), but most of these choke points can be cleared without exposing you to several NEW chokepoints at the same time, which creates fair (gun)fights for both parties, which enhances playability and fun factor.
- There is the ability for Ts to eliminate angles (with smokes, molotovs) to get through the chokepoint more easily
- There should be connectors from middle to bombsites that reward Ts taking risk early in the round and improve rotates from bomb sites
These new maps look really pretty but the developers have to keep in mind that every barrel, chest, bunch of stones near bomb sites creates new angles which can make it practically impossible (and not fun) for Ts to clear angles and take bomb sites.

Love the throw back age of mythology music for Anubis. Gonna have to boot that up again
One of the things that sets Counter Strike apart from other games as an E-sport, other than the game play, is the fact that it takes years and years to perfect a single map.
In my opinion,
De_Jingshen is a map that isn't really balanced in sense of timings and rotations because the sites are closer to the terrorists and they can get there in seconds, while to the CT's it can take much more, therefore the rounds would most likely take less time between start and bomb plant.
De_Mutiny is pretty nice as the theme and the design are really well thought, but one thing is that people will 100% get lost in it, so there isn't much of a balance difference.
De_Chlorine is a good map that mixes the creativeness, aztec design and also modern designs. The map layout is really interesting because it's one of those maps where close ranged fights will happen all the time, there's not a good spot to camp with AWP's or SSG's, making it a really nice gameplay for shotguns and SMG's. The wooden bridges and lower areas of them will make up for an amazing new type of gameplay that isn't really common.
De_Anubis is a mind-blowing map where the first thing you can notice is the overwatch aspects. The designs and lighting makes it a fair gameplay where you can see people hiding from you, but this gets balanced with the amount of spots where utility isn't enough. The amount of places to throw flashbangs over walls and also the pillars will make for an interesting amount of possible pop-flashes. The designing is really well done, an almost perfect transfer from the one in overwatch. The amount of obstacles and objects in the way make it annoying but as well make it a map where reaction time and having the least amount of shots to kill will be dominant in the experience.
De_Mustang, for the few seconds that I've seen of it, it seems to be a map where AWP's will provail and it's a good map for those who like to snipe.
I loved Biome. It should be given a second chance imo.
