  • Stephanie and I began the episode by "Steel-Manning" the Pro-Choice Position (offering the best arguments the Pro-Choice side has to offer), and Stephanie explains the surprisingly Pro-Life principles at the Core of the EU's Founding Documents.

    When the arguement of r**e and in**st comes up, I like using one response that Ben Shapiro had used at one of his talks. It's not a direct quote, but the summary is "If I were to grant the exception of abortion for r**e and in**st, is that enough? Would you be fine with making abortion illegal as long as we leave those two legal, or do you want all abortions legal and you're only throwing those in to try and muddy the waters of the debate?"

    Wow, haven’t heard the death penalty for pregnant women before. That’s a good one.

    13:00 Interesting. Im reminded of date rapie drugs. If you have to be rational, conscious and self-aware to say 'no, please', for acts against you to be wrong... that has a lot of other implications.

    I would have added the condition "formed unique memories", not just "rational, conscious and self-aware". Rationality? Does the mentally handicapped and the Lefts (but I repeat myself), have a right to live then?
    As to what makes an unconscious (or being under anesthesia) person different from an unborn, what makes the "having been conscious before" significant, is that I have established myself as an individual and I have established a will to live. I have unique memories and unique goals and desires, and when I went to sleep I expected to wake back up again, intelligent enough to anticipate a future. None of these can be said for the fetus. Does that answer Stephanie's rhetorical inquiry? I wonder how she would respond to these points.
    And also if some subjective notion of "potential" determines your rights to live, then this has some serious implications for racists who dont think you have the same potential everyone else does. Slave-masters back in the day didnt think some people had the same potential, and their humanity was questioned and their rights diminished just the same.

    I don't think it's the best argument at all. Best argument would be to say that every person has a right to use force to stop another person from using and damaging their body against their active consent. Denying this right to pregnant woman is hypocritical and discriminative.

      Doesnt that mean no restrictions on abortion? and can be perform throughout all 9mnths? cause that's extreme

    • @alexp8924
      @alexp8924 Před 3 lety

      Pancake McGee not really. Abortion isnt defined as killing a fetus but rather as ending pregnancy. At certain point one can argue that most damage is already done and therefore its best to end pregnancy by not killing the fetus but rather as removing the fetus.

      @@alexp8924 part of the procedure is KCl injection to stop the baby's heart. So yes, part of a abortion after 20 weeks include feticide, it is not only "removing the fetus". This is done as a small mercy to the dying baby which can feel pain.

      @@pancakemcgee8853 "extreme"? Do you know that prior to 2007 partial birth abortions (D&X) were still legal? People are still pushing for it even today. People like Michael Tooley, Peter Singer, Alberto Giubilini and Francesca Minerva also think "after birth abortions" and infanticide are justifiable. Pro-aborts don't care about "extreme." They just rationalize everything."Ending a pregnancy", "clumps of cells", "products of conception", "emptying a uterus", "medical procedure", etc. All a bunch of euphemisms and semantics.

      @@alexp8924 I can also say the same of a newborn baby or toddler or a child. The baby is causing my body and mind undue stress, I have to use my arms and legs to go get the baby food or clean up after him. So I will just abandon the baby or leave him out in the elements, so the baby dies because of external elements. I did not murder him.
