- In this tutorial I will show you how to downgrade the old and delisted GTA San Andreas Steam version to the 1.0 release and make some improvements to it, step by step.
These simple instructions will help you to bring all the music back and make you decide what mods you should install (in the tool) to make your version better than anytime before. This will also allow you to install SAMP/MTA.

Sadly, the author of this tool abandoned this project and their "Rockstar Nexus" servers seem to be offline from time to time. As a result, the link above will lead you to Google Drive, where I uploaded the "full package" offline version. If you open the tool and see "Error reaching online service", then click "OK". It means that the servers are currently offline. If the servers are offline, the tool won't allow you to install those useful mods I showed you. In this case you will have to download them separately. The links can be found below.

*Q&A* 2020 UPDATED
-The tools doesn't work, I get fatal error.
-The fatal error says that it can't connect to Rockstar Nexus servers. Use the offline version in the description bellow. If it doesn't allow you to download those useful mods I showed you, you can pretty much find them anywhere on the Internet.
-Why do we need to rename the root folder?
-If you don't rename the root folder, then eventually the Steam will re-download the files and screw everything up. In other words, we are making a Non-Steam version, which will be protected from unwanted updates. It also means, that you will need to launch the game via the executable the tool made for you.
-Can I launch my downgraded GTA SA version trough Steam?
-Yes, you can use an option "ADD A GAME -> Add a Non-Steam Game" in the left bottom corner.
-What is the point of doing this downgrade if we launch the game bypassing the Steam?
-Just deal with the fact that the GTA SA Steam version is rubbish. If you want to enjoy the game, you will have to do that.
-Can I downgrade a pirate version?
-Are you serious? This tool is made for the official Steam and Retail 2.0 versions. If you are interested in the mods, then download them separately. The links can be found in the description.
-Why the Steam is updating my San Andreas copy now?
-I guess, you didn't rename the root folder or you tried to launch the game via Steam.... or the Steam noticed that the folder became empty and is trying to download these missing files. You don't have to use Steam to play your downgraded GTA SA.
-There are two executables in the root folder now, which one is the right one?
-Both are identical. One of the was made to avoid launching the game via Steam, but as some people already noticed, eventually the Steam will re-download the files. That's why you have to rename the root folder.
-What's with the famous "Hot Coffee" content?
-In order to unlock your beloved HT content, you will have to use the famous unlockers. If you want to enable it, then google how to do it.
-The tool crashes. HELP!

Vadim M bro, is it possible for steam to show the hours played on the downgraded version of San Andreas?
Vadim M i keep getting a black screen after the second cutscene in "The meat business". Is that a common problem? Do you know a fix for this? I cant continue the game now.
Johnny Brick you cant afaik, but in the stats it does show the time you played.
I managed to fix it by reversing the save and playing it on the old gta version. Missions now work again.

the fact that players need to go through all this trouble is sad why did Rockstar neglect their PC versions for so long? it's a shame but this video helps a lot.
Yeah except my downgrader is having a error when I start it and it's telling me I can continue without some files in it and when I do, it doesn't let me pick up any mod or doesn't show the files and then when I try to downgrade it, it's the same error. So annoying. Also you're a good CZcamsr. Great videos.

@@user-vp6cq4sv3d because you can run gta 5 with no problems? - there have been a lot of issues with it for a lot of pc owners - its p2w online with tons of chiseling MTX - they have a track record from their early games of screwing Pc gamers, from gta 3 through 4 and yes GTA5 is much better on pc but we had to wait nearly 2 years. it goes on and its not just Rstar - its most AAA devs. rockstar are no longer the same company with RDR2 and GTA5 p2w mtx etc - they cant be considered the same anymore.

@Becoming Godsize Modders and programmers are not magicians. But programmers from AAA companies are no gods. What they have are different resources. Actually most programmers do mods of their own outside their work space. Blizzard for example has a new feature which is the workshop which was a project of two of their developers that were doing that for fun just to test out wacky things, and when they talked about it in the company they implemented it

after downgrading my gta crashes everytime i load a save
nvm i found out why it was crashing its because my save is v3.0 and the game is v1.0 i have to restart if i want v1
i've got this, but there is one problem when i put my cleo mods into the cleo folder + samfuncs into the Gta san folder it will say error when i start samp is there a way to fix this?

Its KeV3nSGaMing then you have a pretty bad PC. However the widescreen mod or Silent Patch, wouldn't cause any lag. The only mod here that takes more power is the Sa.Project2DFX mod which increases the draw distance.

This is specifically because in order for it to be done officially, Rockstar has to allocate resources (Read: employees) that are dedicated to that specific project whereas a fan-made mod/fix is made by people who have spare time to do the same work.

so i just got done following this videos info. and it works, but you have to follow every little detail because when i skipped 1 or 2 things every time i tried to quit the game it had a black screen which forced me to reset my pc because i was stuck there and could not do a thing. so i deleted everything and reinstalled the files and did everything in this video 100% and it works now. in my honest opinion this game looks way better downgraded than upgraded.
i found out why gta doesnt work after downgrading
its because your gta sa save is v2 or v3 and the game is downgraded to v1 and you need a v1 to restart to be able to play gta downgraded version

You should just remake this video. Almost everything in the video is outdated other than of course your edited comment and description. Also, as just a preference, could I just merge it with Steam? I mean, I want to launch the game as a normal Steam game, and keep my record of my play time.
You could, just turn off auto updates and stuff and hope steam doesn’t “upgrade” your version because you changed it

Just one thing to add: When you are playing with the frame limiter off, some features of the game may break or load forever like modding cars or entering the Crack Den in one of Ryder's mission so I am not sure if Silent patch fixed that.

I tried this, had a couple of hiccups. Then downgrading worked. I went to play, and was informed that it can't find 1434 x 1075 x 32 video mode.. (Update) I changed compatibility mode to win 7 and checked run in 640 x 480 SR then changed it back in game. It works..

I noticed that you never ticked that and I'm curious to know why. Is it something important for adding new mods or is it not considered "needed". I'll be installing cleo4 next.
i've been trying to do this for more than 2 hours and still haven't got it. the downgraded app doesn't work anymore, so i searched for another solution on the steam community, and i saw that some fan made an better version than the version of the downgraded app, whatever, i downloaded it, put every mod that i needed, that is a translate for pt br, and some things to make a ps4 controller work in the game and then i renamed the folder, done everything that i should. i launched the game, i clicked on the start a game, the load screen comes and then black screen, it crashes. Then i searched for a solution in the same topic you made on steam, and you say to delete the gta_sa that will make the game work. Well, it does, but then it just comes back to the steam version. Dear Lord, don't know what to do anymore..

were you able to run without the rockstar launcher popping up and running the original file?
When I run the downgrader it freezes when scanning all the files, so none of the files are replaced. Also if I try to run the gta-sa.exe directly it opens the Rockstar Launcher automatically
@@albertomorelos8292 give it some time, it worked fine for me(I downloaded the stub file that downloads patches later) , and it takes some time when it scans, it took me a solid 15 mins to complete scanning.

UPDATE: Does NOT currently work with the Rockstar Launcher version. The forum that you DL the downgrader from is currently working on an upgraded version of the downgrader to work on the launcher version of the game. May a take a while, but it does appear to be in development.

im confused on how the Rockstar game launcher version can't be modified, i literally changed most of the files and it still update itself not to work. I dont think that version can be downgraded nor moded sadly....
I used the downgrader to create a new installation folder. It's successfully installed, with the new exe and all the mods I selected from the downgrader. The catch came in the form of the exe opening to the Rockstar Launcher. I can't launch the game outside of the Rockstar Launcher it seems. If I can get the game to work without the launcher, then I'm sure it would work. But for now, I can only use the launcher to open the game. So, we're stuck, until the downgrader is updated I guess?

Enable DirectPlay in legacy features

i did not downgrade properly thats all i found out i had v 1.1 and it was still v1.1

How can I put vibration OFF and invert Y axis? GTA San Andreas downgraded, with silent patch and ginput.
Bruno Alves idk if you still need help, but in the san andreas folder, open ginput.ini with some kind of text editor. There is a vibration option and i think there is a invert axis option. 1 means on and 0 means off.

Hi. I installed every mod available and i got an issue.. My screen is super blury.. Any way to sharpen the screen?
Check SkyGfx's INI file for radiosity/blur related options and play around them a bit.
set them to read only once you save them so that the game doesnt change them.
you said yes to the ps2 thing you need to click no
SATAN thats not what i meant when you click downgrade it gives you the option to replicate the ps2 version more and you have to click no
i keep getting a error code (500) after installing the downgrader it keeps poping out and gta wont start..
