    I love watching these special documentaries about the monarchy. It not just about people. Its the symbol of continuity from the past , with the present and the future. Its a symbol of all that is good about our heritage and gives us a reason to hope in the dark times and the hard times and gives joy and well being in the good
    times,even when lesser people fail.

    I adore the queen all the way from the states! She handles everything with such grace and class. I always think about how she has dedicated her whole life to the crown and all things that go with it. I can't imagine having to do all her duties. She is always working. She can't just have a day where she stays in her pajamas in bed binge watching her favorite shows eating snacks. Even now in her late 90s she is still on all the time. She has led a life with alot of privilege but alot of work as well. I think she is absolutely adorable and I can't imagine a world without her. Long live the queen 👑

      When Queen Elizabeth dies it will be an end of an era, and the start of a very uncertain era for us all. That is why we hope she will live a few more years. One royal historian said that the reason why some monarchs live very long lives is that they don't want their eldest child to inherit the throne, think about it. Prince Charles is the oldest and longest serving Prince of Wales and heir to the throne ever in British history.

      I remember back in basic training (USAF) in 1972, we were warned about "locking the knees" while standing in formation. San Antonio in summer, 95 degrees and 90% humidity, (looking back on it) it was funny how many boots would pass out on the parade field, splayed out and totally ignored like sleeping dogs, until the entire formation had marched pass the base commander for inspection... our still fallen comrades littering the parade field like towels on a Malibu beach.

      ***** : Minneapolis. There is actually a pretty nice bronze statue of her Mary Richards character in the process of flinging up her tam o shanter (sp?) cap somewhere in downtown Minneapolis.
      In MKE, we have the 2/3rds life size Fonzie on our riverwalk; The Bronze Fonz. Doesn't look much like Henry Winkler, but the posture's good and the thumbs up gesture accurate. Honestly, I think it's pretty clumsy, but the tourists like having their photos taken with it. His bronze crotch has been polished to a shiny patina. My big red Dobie boy and I were taking the riverwalk on our way back to my car at some pay for parking structure after participating in the Downtown Veteran's Day parade and we happened upon some very tall models who were having a photo shoot while they were draped all over this undersized Fonzie statue. The models gushed all over my big red male Doberman and wanted to pose with him. I was so stupidly taken aback, I allowed the photographer to take photos of my boy with the models. I was feeling very short and pudgy next to these models. I never took down info so that I could get some copies of photos. So my dog may very well have been used as a model and never got pay.
      I should contact some US dog modeling agency and start a lawsuit. Or else learn to like beer. Eh.

      @keri caye, Since you have the entire DVD, Do you know what year was this video made? Sir Edmund Hillary, the very tall gentleman with a cane who was greeted by the Knight of the Garter Comptroller, Sir Malcolm Ross, as he ascended up the stairs , @ 16:27 "The conqueror of Everest" , [as the respectful narrator noted] is a world wide known New Zealand Mountaineer, part of the first confirmed party to reach the summit at Mt. Everest in 1953. He was first awarded the Knight Garter in 1995, he passed away in 2008, not sure when this video was made, could it be filmed in 2005, ? Also, Sir Malcolm Ross, @ 16:19 [very handsome man, in an interview described being called foul names and bullied by Prince Charles, when he left this position in he served in from 1991-2005 Office of Chamberlain, Comptroller. Sir Malcolm was responsible for the unprecedented funeral of Princess Diana, as well as for Queen Mother, Princess Margaret and Margaret Thatcher ], and joined Prince Charles' Household Staff 2006-2008, and was unceremoniously fired by Charle's Secretary...Prince Charles seems like a spoiled, entitled, nasty piece of work. Sir Malcolm passed away unexpectedly, on his birthday, 27th, October 2019 at age 76... Prince Andrew was seen months later, attending the Memorial Services for Sir Malcolm Ross held in March, 2020 In St. George Chapel, even though Prince Andrew , who is accused of pedophilia, was removed [supposedly ] from Royal duties...I guess they are sneaking Prince Andrew back into duties...he will not even cooperate with the FBI here in the U.S. order to address his 3 ILLEGAL sexual encounters with Georgia Roberts when she was 17 years old. If you don't mind, why did you leave England after 3 years if you enjoyed living there? Were you a Resident living there with proper immigration papers?

I don't know if I was just born at the wrong time or in the wrong country. Besides the queen herself I have always loved learning about the tudors. From Henry VIII to Elizabeth I. Love learning about the foods at the time to the royals clothes and what fortunate items that have surpassed and been lucky enough to make it through the course of time. Would love to see the items of queen Elizabeth I to her father king Henry. That have never been shown to the public. Would love to spend a year just metal detecting around Britain.

    I love watching this and all the seeming magic and history, but I could NEVER do it. You are harnessed to that job for life. The Queen is in her 90’s and still has to work every single day! Always be nice and happy and never allowed to give her real opinion. Then to have those U.K. tabloid jackals dogging your every move and making up lies if you dare displease them. Your job is to work hard for the country and Commonwealth, and the U.K. tabloids greatest pleasure is to find fault with you. No thanks. I’ll enjoy watching these videos.

      @oliverdavis2844 Před 3 lety +2

      Well said - her life seems luxurious but she works 14 hour days mostly doing the same boring things over and over again; C. will take over more duties as she gets older but her whole life is dedicated (as she promised) to the service of the commonwealth so the job won't ever really end until she passes on. Barely a moment to herself her whole life, always having to be "on parade" except for a few weeks in scotland at the end of the summer (during which she has to have the PM and wife as guests for a weekend . . . ugh). C. will be King for fewer years than Edward VII, though I do think he will do much better than expected. Hell he's entitled to the job after all this wait although in reality he can't be looking forward to it, can he? Wills will be fine when it's his turn but he's as boring as a bag of hammers, and now the only fun one, Harry's off - he and Meghan probably decided they couldn't stand to be in the same castle at Christmas with Prince Andrew; talk about a bummer for ER, Andrew was her favorite and now I think she's had to banish him to some lodge on one of the properties, and rightly so. Too bad Anne can't take over as Regent, leave C. to tend to his organic peas and his watercoloring, and let mum put her feet up and have a deserved retirement where she can enjoy some good gin, TV, and her dogs. Anne's a bit staunch but that's what's required, she's a pro and would do a fine job, and she'd also keep it interesting with the occasional smart-ass comment.

    I see a lot of Americans saying they wish they were british and could be involved in these sorts of things in some way and wish they had such a queen and ceremonies.
    While that is a perfectly valid stance and opinion to take, i'd like to offer an alternative view.
    These sorts of events were extremely posh, elitist, and closed off to the public. No one except the cream of society could attend such events or really saw/knew what went on there in much detail. It was in large part due to the changing nature of the world and the super power that is America and the way it handled its own affairs that gradually shifted the more archaic and closed off monarchy into the more public and accessible one of the modern era.
    So while Americans may indeed wish to see these events up close and wish they had a fascinating and strong queen for themselves, take heart and pride in the knowledge that your own people's history helped bring about the changes that allow everyone now, both british and american, to see these ceremonies when before neither could.

      What total nonsense. It's got nothing to do with the USA. There were big changes with The Monarchy during and shortly after WW1 (along with universal suffrage, women working outside the home, loss of the servant class, etc.) The role of The Queen and Royal family still exist only because it's the will of the (British) people. Royalty changes with the times to still be relevant and acceptable to the people. If they were remote, inaccessible and didn't do all the good works they do they would rapidly be abolished like all the European monarchies that no longer exist. Some don't understand that The Queen has absolutely no power and is a 'ruler' in name only. Government is in her name but she's only a figurehead representing the British people.

    • @TheDrexxus
      @TheDrexxus Před 3 lety

      @@nevillemason6791 If you think it has nothing to do with the USA, you need to pickup a history book and try reading it again.
      The American Revolution inspired the French Revolution just a few years later and more or less lead to a domino effect across Europe where many monarchies were destroyed by one means or another.
      Those changes by King George V were not some enlightened new ideology or a desire to change to keep with the times, they were to avoid the people turning on and ousting him and his family and it was spurred on, primarily, by what happened to his cousin, the Czar of Russia and the mass murder of the Romanov family. Revolutions had been occuring like wildfires after the american revolution and even created what some refer to as the Age of Revolution because it happened in so many places.
      The royals just want to keep on living and to simultaneously hold onto whatever status and power they can at this point. And yes, it all started with the American Revolution. Nearly all of the subsequent ones were inspired by it and pointed to it as an example, or another revolution that used it as an example.
