Some people who claim they don't believe in a monarchy probably would blush in the Queen's presence because she is so delightful.
Also I think a lot of people don't realize how truly busy she really is.

@@lauchzwiebel The monarchy is the best thing that can happen to Britons
      1. You will say, "The monarchy costs taxpayers money."
No, the monarchy is actually financed from the crown estate.
      (Net income £312.7m (2022))
The Crown Estate ( since 1053) is a collection of lands and holdings in the United Kingdom belonging to the British monarch as a corporation sole, making it "the sovereign's public estate", which is neither government property nor part of the monarch's private estate
Historically, Crown Estate properties were administered by the reigning monarch to help fund the business of governing the country. However, in 1760, George III surrendered control over the Estate's revenues to the Treasury, thus relieving him of the responsibility of paying for the costs of the civil service, defense costs, the national debt, and his own personal debts. In return, he received an annual grant known as the Civil List.
Since 1 April 2012, under the terms of the Sovereign Grant Act 2011 (SSG), the Civil List was abolished and the monarch has been provided with a stable source of revenue indexed to a percentage of the Crown Estate's annual net income (currently set at 25%)
This includes state visits and receptions, maintenance of the palaces and palaces and the royal collections, etc.
and that means the government gets 75% for the state budget. If these Crown Estate belonged to the government, they would have been sold long ago to fill a short-term budget hole.
There's the cost of security, yeah
      - for each president who is only 4-8 years in office, there would also be costs, plus salary. 2. the king/queen is not elected by the people, true, but the president is not used directly by the people but by the respective party, the king is completely neutral, the president is not

That was a terrible thing for Megan to do to her husband's family, accusing them of being a bunch of racists, all while Prince Philip was still ill in the hospital. Why is it up to the Queen to pay for their security when they had already "stepped down" from royal duties? Wasn't that $100 million deal they did with Netflix and Spotify enough to pay for security? Jeez. They just need to stay in their $15 million mansion in CA and leave the Queen, Prince Charles, Prince William and Kate alone! Megan has been bullying her staff and her family here in the US for years now. She has a reputation for being a bully. No way Kate made her cry. That's nonsense and a lie. The total cost of 67 million GPB for 2019 is shockingly low. Factoring in the that the cost is carried by the entire country and the benefit of them creating millions in donations for charities makes keeping the status quo a no brainer. As a country you're essentially investing a small amount (in the grand scheme of things) to gain a lot - other countries simply don't have such an asset.

    • @itsrobm8
      @itsrobm8 Před 3 lety +4

It's a little complicated really, as the Queen surrenders all income gained from the Crown Estate each year to the Government (about £400 million), and the Royal Family's "wage" is set at 25% of the money the Queen hands over to the Government (plus their own private incomes as some of them have other private businesses - but she/they pay tax on that), meaning that the people/the Government actually gain a yearly profit from the Queen. So by putting some money into her state activities, it is (sort of potentially) enabling her to do her "job" and thereby in turn helping the country earn money from the Crown Estate. It might sound a little long winded, but it's not as bad as simply throwing money at the Royal Family as a lot of people assume is happening.

I had very different views about British monarchy before this documentary. I just looked at hierarchy and Prince William Harry Diana and all their relations. The Image that you see from Google search results and from the inside with people's reactions to the system hit differently. The system is amazing. Every country needs history and every society needs someone whom everybody respects from PM to local guy. History pages, forts, swords are history but such a monarchy is a living history. It does everything that history does and binds people together. I wish even India has a system where President plays more role

Your Nanna, fault of an old brain perhaps!? On a more serious note, giving to charity isn't a business. It also requires a long term commitment that will need a lot of financial support. So putting all their money in all their charities wouldn't be a wise choice. Contributing their time is better than financially supporting them on their own. If they were to directly put the money for each of their causes instead of using their royal status to raise the funds for their charities, bc they have many charities, at this point, they would be so broke that they would need charity themselves! You don't need to be rich to donate money or other wise to charities for those who are less fortunate than yourself/ves. In addition, they know super rich people, who would be willing to contribute a lot. That's why they do it that way. You wouldn't want to do good if it requires spending every cent you have. Would you do that???

LightDweller it's all a matter of perspective, if you look at how much your taxes are going towards the royal family it doesn't appear to be that much based on what they're saying. If that is the cost per year, if I could have a group of people who were putting out that much energy towards positive groups and actually having a positive look on the world and a continued stable force while the eb & flow of Change that comes with voting democratically I would love it! Specifically in the United States right now we could use something with more stability! The grass is always greener, both for me and for people who are anti-their own Royalty. But I would tell you, if both my wife and I could transfer to England tomorrow with our jobs we would.

My Opinion Matters That's a wonderful perspective and a very heartwarming one. I guess, as with every institution there is an underbelly that cultivates less desirable dealings that are not common knowledge, and which the public are not privy to. We as a public never have the full picture, it's mostly airbrushed, the Royals are historically corrupt, but with a good public appearance. That said, your comment/perspective has made me pause for thought, with thanks.

He is by nature is shy and sensitive, but has come out of his shell in recent years and come into his own. It’s not fair to compare him to William who is younger and hasn’t had to deal with a hostile press, Charles has acted with dignity and worked hard for the RF without looking for praise. His speeches are second to none.

Both have strong, happy marriages, neither has had a boat load of scandal ruining their reputation, and they're both incredibly down to Earth, in spite of their positions. Anne would be my 3rd option....she is a hard worker, but I fear her personality would be something sensitive people couldn't handle. LOL. Just like her father. Rest peacefully, Prince Phillip!

Both lost their mother at a young age, both must must find the press intrusive both walked behind her coffin etc etc. William is not just the older brother but definitely a man compared to a boy. It's all too easy to moan and become a victim, unfortunately Harry has become the eternal victim. Enabled and programmed by his wife and until recently financed by his beleaguered father, that role now in the hands of Netflix, Spotify and Oprah. If Harry were a woman we would call this gaslighting.

It would help if the press covered all the Boring things they do most people would detest it has brought me much solace during times of extreme mental illness thinking I'm sure the queen has woken up some days thinking " I can't face going to Bognor community hall today to see 50 100 yr olds waving paper flags in my face I just can't face it today . It's clear she has a strong resolution so may not think that. But I think the lesser known royals do go through that dread I used to feel Tryin g to convince myself to get out of. Bed every single day. If the press didn't solely portray them as on holiday in every photo it would help show people how much they do for Britain and international trade relations tourism etc for 66p per year per person they're worth it
