- Russia continues their drone and missile strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure as their tactics have shifted to using higher value missiles on lower priority targets across Ukraine with a higher rate of success. The House of Representatives is back in session and Speaker Johnson is doing everything possible to avoid talking about Ukraine as he continues blocking a vote on military aid. A ranking House Republican has sounded the alarm that Kremlin propaganda is being directly repeated in the halls of Congress by MAGA Republican members.

I'm just another "average Joe" American, never served in the military and I've lived a good life. I've made lots of mistakes throughout my life, but the culmination of my choices has brought me to Ukraine to volunteer because my heart tells me it's the right thing to do. I'm honored to be in a position where I'm able to do so, as I don't have a lot of family and no kids. After my first week in Lviv and seeing the beauty of its city and the sheer determination of the Ukrainian people, this has only reinforced my decision to come.

Before Russia invaded Crimea, Ukraine had promised Russia they would never join NATO, and on top of that, had signed an agreement to lease the Sevastopol naval base to Russia for the next 30 years. Even after Euromaidan there were no signs whatsoever that any of this was going to change. There was widespread support for those policies, both in the Ukrainian population and the Ukrainian government. Even if Russia didn't want to trust Ukraine, they didn't have to, because both France and Germany were officially on record as being unwilling to accept Ukraine into NATO, as a concession towards Russia.
Then Russia invaded Crimea.
It was only then that Ukraine did a hard pivot westwards and really wanted NATO protection, which is the least surprising pivot of all time.
If its neighbors weren't absolutely terrified of Russia, there would have been absolutely no push for eastern Europe to beg and (in some cases) even blackmail their way into NATO. Russia has only itself to blame, which is why this "talk" you mention of "Putin being justified" is utter nonsense.

I have nothing against US, and I know that this is because of just couple people standing on top of everything (trump, mike J, etc) but it is starting to affect how I feel about the country as a whole. I'm not saying there aren't things we could do or could have done better here in the EU. Definitely. But it is ridiculous that the house is on vocation every month during this critical time WHILE PEOPLE ARE DYING EN MASSE. AND THEY ACCEPT IT TOO. Victoria Sparks (Ukrainian/American) is running with support of Trump. Mike Braun (Senator) is running for Governor, and is a MAGA election denier. I hate politics and I wish things were not so devastating and divided. As a Ukrainian Canadian I am very disappointed in the U.S government right now. If Ukraine asked for troops then they should say NO. But this is not the case, as a brutal dictator simply wants to obliterate a nation that he hates and The U.S has the weaponry to protect them from this act of hate. In Alberta where I live there are over 30,00 Ukrainian refugees and I see many of them at church every week. And they never complain or whine about their unjust fate because they are survivors. I have visited the U.S all my life but I don't think I will go back anytime soon. Jake, thank you for your heroic advocacy for Ukraine.
