    Angelina Jordan Summertime - Finals - Norways Got Talent
    Join me in watching Angelina Jordan's winning performance on Norway's Got Talent as she wows the audience at just eight years old! This is the performance that stole the show and captured everyone's hearts. It was truly EPIC.
    Important note: Something happened with the timing of some of the notes I added within the video... it's pretty wonky in a couple places, sorry! The note about the judges reaction should be at the end and the note about the keyboard pressing wrong keys should be aligned with when I'm playing the virtual keyboard. Ugh...I appreciate your understanding.

    SORRY since something happened with the timing of some of the text inserts on the video 😞 and it's really funky. The comment about watching the judges reaction comes towards the beginning but applies near the very end. The comment about the keyboard also occurs early and applies later when I was using the virtual keyboard and kept clicking the mouse funny (I guess it's hard to play the keyboard on the computer with a mouse lol)

    That note she hits on “your daddy’s rich” is my favorite note of all time. I’ve listened to it hundreds of times over the years. So grateful you ran it back so many times, thanks. This was spellbinding, she performs this song at 10 with an orchestra and it’s just as incredible and completely sends me on a journey. Thansk for all your amazing input, I’ve learned so much

      It's called 'blue note'. 😊
      In jazz and blues, a blue note is a note that-for expressive purposes-is sung or played at a slightly different pitch from standard.

      ^ As the kids say, "Facts". Somehow this young she knew that less is more and didn't overdo or repeat that slide up on "daddy". She gives you just a taste of the divine sound that she can make and leaves you wanting more. Melts me everytime I hear it.

    A-Aron, thanks for another entertaining reaction and commentary. I greatly appreciate your musical knowledge and using it to educate your audience. Angelina got 46% of the votes from the top TEN acts. Everyone who competed in this season of Norway's Got Talent has the honor of finishing behind, in my opinion, the greatest child vocalist of all time. The only things which exceed Angelina's musical talents, are her humility and empathy. She provided me HOPE when I needed it most in my life. Her voice has a positive physical affect on me, like it is hugging my soul.

    You might want to consider that you've watched only half a dozen of her videos . Most of us Angels have been watching her for years. She gets excited, but its easy for most people to misconstrue excitement for nerves. Remember, that she's been filmed by her family from birth and after that whoever. By 6 she'd been in front of a camera more than most people have their entire lives. For her, performing front of an audience is no big deal

    • @A-AronReacts

    • @103mrg
      @103mrg Před 26 dny +4

      @@A-AronReacts I agree with you. Here's where I think is the disconnect: She never gets nervous when she PERFORMS; when she's ON STAGE. When you saw her recording IWHN, it was her first time in the STUDIO. We could see she was nervous (and also excited). And we could hear the nervous laughter when she spoke later. But she wasn't performing, or on stage. (BTW, there's another recording of her singing the same song, but on a different day. We don't see the nerves there.) So it boils down to studio first-time vs countless performances (be it shopping malls before NGT, 40k people in Seoul at age 11 or millions watching AGT). Really apples and oranges. Just as a final note: Angelina has been quoted more than once (as recently as February in her "!0 years" video) as saying she never is nervous when she performs. She has also said that the stage is her happy place and she loves to sing. She laughs at the notion of being scared performing in front of so many people because it's all so much fun! (her words)

    This might interest you. She was a big fan of Lous Armstrong at this point. In fact her grandma had a picture of him on the sign she waves to encourage her. Secondly there is very interesting footage before this performance. Alot of people are in a room around a big table and Angelina is stood uncomfortable at the head of the table squirming around about like an 8 year old as they discuss it. Then in a pause in the conversation she turns to the musician who will accompany her and tells him how and where he should come in. The look on everybody's face as this tiny child solves the problem in one tiny little sentence. Its like she morphed before their eyes into something completely different. I think it was around then musicians started affectionately calling her the Boss.

    Something you'll notice, especially in her younger performances, is that she seems to instinctively make eye contact with the primary instrumentalist, as in I'll put a spell on you. In this instance she and the trumpet are listening and interacting exquisite! She doesn't perform like this in her own little bubble. She's connected to every part of the music!

    Angelina was only given vocal lessons on how to protect her voice and breath control because her very first voice teacher told her parents not to interfere with a god given tone and vibrato instead she was given flute violin piano and guitar lessons. I have always thought that has influenced how she chooses to do runs. Which also ties in with the Holiday influence as she zlso tried to use her voice like a musical instrument.

  • @RobertDeMartin
    @RobertDeMartin Před 26 dny +6

    Aaron, you are a perfect example of what happens to someone when they listen to her sing. She has brought out your absolute best. And it's absolutely amazing that you are critiquing an eight year old girl. In regards to the 'nervousness' conversation, it is impossible for anyone to sing 'Gloomy Sunday (at 7 years old); 'I'm A Fool To Want You' (A CAPPELLA!); 'Bang Bang' (dressed like a Princess); and 'Summertime' (in the style of Ella Fitzgerald), the way she did and be nervous even for a moment. I believe you are equating the fact she MUST have been nervous and then graduated to being more confident as the Show continued song after song because the progression sounded normal. Well, you've already determined she was not normal and let me add this little tidbit; she asked her mom if she could sing on Norway's Got Talent when she was "4 years old!". Her mom told her they don't accept children until they are at least 7 years old. LOOK BACK AT THE GLOOMY SUNDAY VIDEO AND WATCH HER ENTER THE STAGE. SHE WAS READY! AND LOOK AT THE WAY SHE HANDLED THE MIKE WHEN SHE SANG. When asked about the subject she replied by saying she is most comfortable in her life when she is on stage singing for people.
    Lastly, Aaron, the stage presence matter is interesting. I know what you are suggesting and as you watch her mature I'll be interested to hear what your opinions will be. But, I will say this: She commands the stage with her voice. Listeners are so enthralled with the tone of her voice and the artistry she puts into everything she sings, any movement that distracts the listener from listening to every note is not at all appropriate. Remember, Aaron, as soon as she starts to sing she takes all of us into her world and we don't come out of it until she finishes singing to us the story of the song. And, as you suggested, by the time she was done singing 'Summertime' people fell in love with her and people in the music industry were in total awe of what she was capable of doing. She was truly being recognized as a bona fide superstar in the making.
    Aaron, I know I've said this before, but I must repeat it again: I CANNOT WAIT TILL YOU HEAR HER SING 'WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES' (Dinah Washington) AT AN OUTDOOR EVENT WITH THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE. It occurred soon after she won Norway's Got Talent.

      Thanks so much. In my gloomy Sunday reaction I indicated she didn't seem nervous. But in the I who have nothing performance in the studio, I still believe she was nervous. That's the progression from being (a little bit nervous) to not being nervous to being comfortable to being confident. My belief has nothing to do with being stubborn or anything like that....it has to do with reading her body language and i really do believe she was nervous in that. But I agree with you on Gloomy Sunday....to a point. She wasn't nervous but she definitely didn't have the same level of confidence as she did with Summertime.

      Thanks again! It is exhausting but....
      I'm new and on a new journey. And I'm here to SERVE so I have a lot to learn. It takes work. And the best way to learn is to listen to what is and isn't working, what questions people have, what concerns, what they want to hear, etc. And at this point, I believe the only way to do that is by reading and responding to comments. Unfortunately, it's not sustainable though and have to already pull back.
      As far as anxious versus nervous, you made me actually go "hmmm" and so I consulted chat gpt and it spit this out:
      "Anxious" and "nervous" are often used interchangeably, but they have slightly different connotations:Anxious typically refers to a feeling of worry, unease, or nervousness about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome. Anxiety can also be a clinical diagnosis where the feeling becomes excessive, persistent, and can interfere with daily activities.Nervous is more commonly used to describe a transient state of being on edge or jittery, often about a specific event that’s close at hand, like giving a speech or attending an interview.So, while both terms relate to reactions to stress, "anxious" might suggest a deeper, more prolonged, or more psychological aspect, whereas "nervous" is often more about immediate and situational reactions.
      ---------
      So based on the above, I do feel it is more fleeting and situational. That said, I think nervous is appropriate

Angelina's grandma recorded a part of that session. czcams.com/video/BSm-oMgVCo8/video.html
    As for he vocal trill, perhaps she was influenced by Louis Armstrong - he really knows his way around a trill!
    As for the context of this rendition. Here we are in 2014, Angelina started to piece together the story that she would publish in 2015. She had met a poor orphan girl in 2012, trying to make a living on the cold wet streets. Angelina got to understand how privileged she was to have a father and mother and to be part of a wealthy family. Her sister Juliette was a new born at the time of the story, this song is like it's being sung to her, as she was often crying...
    There is an incredible journey for you to make, this song got me completely hooked, the next song simply blew me away, in June 2014 she sang at a festival set amongst a large crowd. Her performance is indeed greatly based on the well known version of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. It is a short song, but to do it completely, it would be too long for a "Got Talent"-show. So they skipped the second verse, which was sung by Mister Armstrong. And reduced the intro trumpet solo to the first line. The middle part in the original from Ella and Louis was also in another key. Angelina would have had to sing in a very low register. She actually did that once (recorded) in Seoul (South Korea). Started in A-minor (Unlike this one, which was in B-minor and not E-minor!) czcams.com/video/bfJ5an-KTEg/video.html and It is incredible how low she can sing actually. The Seoul performance is another good example of that.
    Loved your comment and extra information! The second "Oh your daddy's rich" (with the ninth note of the scale for dad-...) I also consider epic. It's beautiful to see she raises her shoulders to sing it extra gentle! As if she holds and rocks a baby and really sings to it. It is so moving and melancholic! It must have been a miracle to watch her on stage for those who were there!

    @user-es2ju9np9s Před 26 dny +1

    Good analysis. The close connection between Anagelina and the trumpet player was clear from the start. The trumpet player was probably placed that far away from Angelina, deliberately. He was an integral part of the performance but not placed too near to Angelina so as not to deflect any attention away from her. She played a part in arranging this song and the stage backdrop was entirely complimentary. The word thing with 'cotton' does stand out a little but at this stage Angelina's native language was Norwegian. She is singing in English and she spoke Farsi and some Japanese as well at this young age. Accordingly, I would cut her some slack on her word pronunciation.
    Today, her music of today places an occasional lyric/word/phrase slightly unusually. I suspect it is an artistic choice to improve the legato feel or increase the serparation between words for artistic effect. Her shortening of lyrical lines in this song, or omitting them, is likely to be because of the strict timings imposed upon each contestant. Instead of rushing through the alloted time (and not demonstrating a particular aspect of a song) Angelina demonstrated another look and way of emphasising words or phrases.
    i agree that this performance borrowed much from the song as sung by Ella and Louis. Interesting that you mentioned Angelina's playing with timing. She is a master at this and you will have seen in her perfpormance of "I Put A Spell On You", that she kept to the time really accurately. The swing you heard here was Angelina extending her boundaries and seeing how to play with the timings. A more up to date example is her take on Elvis Presley's 'Suspicious Minds'. In the second verse after the words "if an old friend I know", Angelina stretches the timing between the first two lines of words very slightly (almost imperceptibly) but it provides a real emphasis to the words. From that performance, I would say her sense of timing is impeccable. Additionally, she slowed that song down, and sang the middle eight at the beginning and the end of the song rather than kept it to the middle of the song. Need more low-tones and even more lower-tones from Angelina than check out “How Great Thou Art” this was a popular song by Elvis.

    👣Angelina did the full version of this song in a 3 songs performance during a festival later this year (so still 8).
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=jU_BkC9L7 This link also include all 3 songs, "Summertime", "Bang bang" (also full version) and "Fly Me To The Moon". Certainly one to enjoy on your own time. I was recorded by Angelina`s grandmother, Mery Zamani, the greatest fan and mentor for Angelina.
    Other performances at 8 years old: "What a difference A Day Make", "At Last", "I`ll Be There", "What A Wonderful World" (sung at "Save the Children`s piece prize party").
    I do hope you`ll be abel to go trough this list and react to them, as they are all such amazingly great performances. She did of course also give us a few wonderfully performed Christmas songs during desember, and even a 3 songs EP. 👣 🤗

    I’ve really enjoyed listening to your comments. Looks like you are going for the monetary gain, so I will probably not hear much of your comments from now on. 😢

      I appreciate your honesty. Truth is every reactor is promoting something... Their services or business, products, ads, or otherwise. Many of them don't even link to original videos and just list all of their services. In my case, I'm providing a ton of value in hopes of being able to do this full time. Either way, I appreciate you

      Actually, that was after she won the competition. You can't see her teeth very well in that video, but in this other one from the same session (singing "At Last") you can see that her teeth are a little more grown in than when she won NGT. czcams.com/video/hQIuzhNbzNI/video.html

    Sei ormai un "angelo" come si chiamano i suoi fan. Ti consiglio un paio di sue interpretazioni che ti lasceranno senza fiato.
    I'm still holding out for you,di Baby Fuzz ne trovi soltanto una versione fatta da un fan,puoi reagire perché autore e Angelina sono d'accordo,aveva 10 anni quando l'ha cantata.
    La seconda e I'll be there di Michael Jackson,aveva 9 anni e un raffreddore tremendo ma ha voluto a tutti i costi onorare l'impegno e ne è venuta fuori una interpretazione straordinaria. Grazie e buon viaggio.

    One of the things I like most about Angelina is her lack of stage presence. She’s a singer-the best singer I’ve ever heard. When you can sing like that, you don’t need to perform. I don’t see the need to embellish her singing by playing to the audience, especially at this age where I think it would come across as artificial.
    Regarding memberships-I have to admit that it will probably never happen for me. My interest, my allegiance if you will, is to Angelina. I watch almost every reaction to her on CZcams. I really do enjoy your informed commentary on Angelina, but I don’t have any interest in your reaction to other music. Sorry-but I want to be honest. Angelina is the reason I go to CZcams everyday, and I haven’t followed any of her reactors that went to Patreon. There are too many.

    Sweet reaction, thanks. Angelina has often talked about the seminal influence of Billie Holiday on her music. I focus more on her adaption of Ella
    Fitzgerald's vibrato and phrasing during her development. This "mashup" (2016) Angelina Jordan/Ella Fitzgerald “Every Time We Say Goodbye”
    (czcams.com/video/U_uSOa7uM8k/video.htmlsi=RsjwFl6w2GjArFYI) shows my thoughts. Angelina has 3 CZcams videos of her performing with KORK,
    the Norwegian National Radio Orchestra, including "Summertime" (2016) (czcams.com/video/stwF4ti1tbc/video.htmlsi=dqIvt0r6nHA27XeZ). The other 2 are
    "Back to Black" (2016) (czcams.com/video/LbXUKzOxACU/video.htmlsi=0rclAkUbkWSgyxgy) and "Unchained Melody" for the (2023) Nobel Peace Prize
    Ceremony (czcams.com/video/LbXUKzOxACU/video.htmlsi=0rclAkUbkWSgyxgy). Her KORK performance loses its jazzy roots, but is beautiful in its richness
