The most astonishing thing to me is at 9yo, she is fronting a jazz band in concert. Who else does that. No one. The entire concert is wonderful. 11 songs if I remember right. My favorite was her take on James Brown's "I Feel Good".
I think the trumpet player was playing in the background for "Summertime" in the NGT finals. I think he was also part of the studio band for "I Put A Spell On You".
I think 9 songs. I reacted to the whole thing 🙂

This was recorded from the audience and the camera was closer to the trumpet player than to AJ. That is why the trumpet sounds too loud, not the players or the sound engineers fault
I'm aware of this but it's part of the horn players job to balance and also that wasn't the only mixing issue. His sound in the room shouldn't be louder than his mic'd sound

Hi Aron, thank you for following our beautiful Angelina and doing very comprehensive reactions to all her songs so far but especially "At last". As a huge Jazz music lover myself for over 50 years one soundcheck of this song is so special for me. It's soundcheck from her concert 10-07-2022 Kurbadhagen, Norway. Leisurely and with hands in the pockets she performs this song better than 99% of professional jazz singers (even better than studio recordings). Of course this is my opinion and as a true Angel I might be a little bit biased but you can actually check this for yourself (and maybe do a reaction for another At Last song performed by Angelina). She has done nothing but improve every song she sings Even if it's a different song ,the next song will be better than the last It's her nature to improve
Seriously though, this level of scrutiny just validates the assessment that she is great, and just as important, that she works hard to keep getting besterer!

The reason this one sounds so different is mainly because she is significantly older here (nearly 9½) than in the other "At Last" videos you've seen (almost certainly all in the 8½ - just shy of 9 age range). It's also the summertime, so she is less likely to be getting a cold, having a cold, or getting over a cold.😁
FWIW, I disagree that she handled the intro especially well in this one. I think she was "a bit off" more than once in the part you kept playing over and over. Granted, with all the swoops and bends (etc.) she does, whether one hears what she's doing as "off" or "on" is perhaps more of a matter of taste than with other more "straightforward" singers. But if you ask me, she was "a bit off" disappointingly often throughout this entire concert. (To be fair, AIR, some of that was because she and the musicians didn't seem to be totally "on the same page" in a lot of the songs. And that could have just been lack of rehearsal time.)
She does a nice version of the James Brown classic 'I Feel Good' at this concert that displays her power. When the song is over there's an adorable display of how big her heart is. Thanks!

One of my many favorite performances by Angelina. I agree, her improvement over a short time frame is remarkable. I had always assumed this concert was near Oslo, so all the young children were likely schoolmates, but I had a Norwegian inform me, this venue was a long ways from Oslo.
AJ's understanding of syncopation, timing and phrasing as a child make no sense to me.

Regarding the trumpet player: I'm not even sure how much of what we are hearing from him is coming through the speakers. It kinda sounds like it's coming directly through the air from the instrument to the video camera. In any case, this is the same trumpet player as "Summertime" in the finals of NGT, "I Put a Spell on You", and the "At Last" rehearsal in the "board room" looking place (and I think at least one other rehearsal you've seen, but I'm not going to bother looking that up).
It is. But one of the first things you should learn playing a "loud" instrument is how not to be too loud for the room and play balanced with the mic

In 2015, Angelina had her first summer concert tour, of which only this concert on June 28th was recorded in its entirety. Back then, “At Last” was a staple in her setlist, so she had plenty of opportunity to improve it (“Übung macht den Meister” as we say in German). The telethon performance was on December 13, 2014, so there is about six months between them.
This Båt og Fjord festivalen (Boat and Fjord Festival) takes place every year in Hemnesberget, which is located in the middle of Helgeland, about 40 km / 25 miles south of Mo i Rana (950 km / 590 miles north of Oslo).
It's 2 AM and the joint is finally empty. As the chairs get stacked on the tables and they start sweeping a day's butts and cocktail napkins into piles, she drains the last of her Southern Comfort from the lipstick ringed glass.
"One more to shut this joint down. Just follow my lead."

The trumpet player has been with AJ since she was 7 years old. So for 3 years.
@@dougcampbell7898there's no indication that he was playing for her at age 7; a rehearsal video states this obviously by mistake, as her teeth are further developed than at her NGT final. So he likely only started to play for her in April or May 2014, and this was on June 2015, so it was only a year and a couple months.
