This video is a masterpiece that I have watched more than 75 times. Every time I hear the KORK Orchestra begin playing, I feel a surge of emotion because I know what is coming next: the most amazing rendition of Unchained Melody by the incomparable Angelina Jordan. She has a voice of an angel and a talent beyond words.

The importance of a great sound engineer.
After listening to the complete rehearsal for AJ's rendition of Unchained Melody, and then the finished product, you have an idea of what a good sound engineer can do for the artist. The final product of this recording is a testament to the skill of the sound engineer, who balanced the vocals and the orchestra perfectly. In the rehearsal, there were moments when the orchestra overpowered Angelina Jordan's voice, but that issue was resolved, and the result is a masterpiece, a true work of ART.

I was one of the extremely fortunate ones to be in the second row in Portsmouth when she sang this. I cried then and I am crying now. There is no one like her.
This cannot be watched enough. I feel like a real Angel came down at the end and lifted us all away to freedom. Goosebumps and tingles every time.
I paused the video just before Angelina started singing and watched the rest with my headphones on. This must be the 50th time I have listened to this and still .... my body reacts by tearing up a bit .. an honor I suppose to the beauty
The parallels to Ms. Callas are uncanny. However in Ms. Jordan's case she is the true unicorn. No one in the musical world that has graced this world, has effected so many and compelled them to be better to themselves and others, just by the force of being. This, in my opinion, was one of Angelina's most magnificent performances EVER and, as you pointed out, the whole setting, the KORK orchestra, the whole atmosphere, as well as Angelina's majestic appearance, all combined to make this presentation the quintessence of elegance, beauty and class. The brilliance of this performance by Angelina is made even more poignant and outstanding when you understand its background and purpose, which I am sure you have researched by now, and which would also explain the extreme delicacy, pathos, emotion and reverence she infused into it. I heard that the whole Concert was Aired around the World as is usual with the Nobel Prizes and that One Billion people have heard Angelina sing !!!! Wow, our girl didn't disappoint.

This interpretation of her is fascinating and wonderfully intimate, it made this legendary song perfectly suited for the occasion of the tribute to Narges Mohammadi! I was moved to see and hear Angelina singing in such an incredibly mature and charming way 7 years after the last time and in the same studio and certainly also with some of the musicians who accompanied her as a child, when she took her first steps towards his musical future. I thought "Unchained Melody" was a odd choice for this event, but have since learned the history of the song. More on that later.
Certainly Angelina was thrilled to be performing back in her home country of Norway, where she is a national treasure, but this performance goes way beyond that honor. She first performed at the Save the Children event at the 2014 Peace Prize event, when she was 8 years old.
Narges Mohammadi was this years' recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Narges, is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two children spoke on her behalf at this event. Most of the performers were Iranian.
We know Angelina's grandmother, Mery Zamani, grew up in Iran and was a prodigy for painting and poetry. We can imagine the conversations Mery had with Angelina about Narges. This performance had to be extremely meaningful to Angelina and her family. I hope all the angels will spread the story of Narges and her mission, with the hope for change.
In 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film Unchained (released in 1955). North had a melody he had written in the 1930s and composed and recorded the score when he was asked to write a song based upon the movie's theme. North asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics. After first refusing, Zaret and North together wrote "Unchained Melody. Zaret refused the producer's request to include the word "unchained" in his lyrics. The song eventually became known as the "Unchained Melody" even though the song does not actually include the word "unchained". Instead, Zaret chose to focus on someone who pines for a lover he has not seen in a "long, lonely time".
"Unchained Melody" comes from the film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run or completing his sentence and returning to his wife and family. So indeed this song fits along with Narges being in prison and her two children, and the rest of the people who embrace freedom, calling for her release.

Heard Angelina sing this iconic song in New Hampshire.. TIME STOOD STILL! Her tempo was much, much slowe, almost uncomfortable or unbelievable.. BUT simultaneously hyponotic, mesmerizing onw of those moments in time forever captured in my heart and my soul... Hope to be able to hear her live again!!
I’ve watched this performance with many different reactors 100 times, and each time I hear some thing new in her story singing. I’m juxtaposing in my mind, the video of her at about 18 months, with a microphone singing to this performance and I believe this young woman is an incredible gift to humanity on so many levels ❤️

What Angelina wrote about the performance was: "thank you KORK.....for trusting me in the process of making this incredible rendition....."....I do agree with you about her toning it down. I call it her Goldilocks technique. She's a virtuosa of restraint: Not too much; not too little. Juuuussst right.

Angelina's recent performance at the Nobel Peace Prize Award Ceremony has highlighted 'who she is' just one day short of her18th Birthday. What we just witnessed was a human being, as are we, who took us on a journey into her world so that we may feel love in it's most purest form. After her stirring climatic finish something occurred which made us understand exactly what is going on. She wants us to feel joy and to feel hope when we listen to her sing for us and most of all, her love. Not only do those moments warm our hearts but at the same time she is inspiring us to be kinder, more caring and loving than ever before in our lives. This is not the work of a magician or a person seeking personal gain, it's the mission of a young lady who is lovingly genuine to do what she can to make all the people in the world believe love is the answer and we must begin to love one another in order to make the world a better place to live for everyone. Angelina's soul guides us and we willingly follow her lead. This is not a fairy tale. it is very real. Does someone look for a logical explanation of what is going on? Some do, for sure, but soon after they grow to understand what is going on is something they feel in their heart and they realize they have never felt so conscious of 'who they are'. There will be millions upon millions of more people joining her on her journey and they are encouraged to find out who this very special person is. Perhaps they should start their search to when she was 7 years old. I just sent this comment out at 7:34PM, EST, on Tuesday, 1/9/24. There’s something really special that happens when she and KORK come together on a song. They did such an outstanding job of accompanying her, never once overpowering her vocals, and I think the conductor has eyes in the back of his head.
Tomorrow our Angel will be 18. Most of us have grown up with her from around age six, to now, and most of us feel like proud parents, grandparents or great grandparents--count me in the last one. I am so thankful to her family for making the decisions necessary to let us feel the love, the grace, the unbelievable talent, through all the videos of her singing, living and loving her life and those she touches. I am overwhelmed by this lady's goodness that is the icing on a most extraordinary cake. I suspect that tomorrow will start a new dynamic within her contract with Republic.. I pray that she will keep her family close and they will continue to provide her with protection against the darkness that is much too abundant in the industry. As is usual with Angelina, I probably got carried away with this post.

When these accompanists completed their first part, my mind went to my first hearing of the rehearsal at Quincy Jones birthday celebration. I remember at my hearing that rehersal that that was the first time she had had that level of back-up, and that contour of accompanists to her performance. To me it signaled the first time I felt like she had performanced in a situation in which her full potential was being unleashed

You're right so far that it looks like a Sudio because that Stage is also used for many Concerts - it has a integrated Studio for the Venue Accoustic .. so it's easy to record some with a great room accoustic .. it's like a "oversized" Studio with Public entrance ..

Bobby Hadfield's rendition has always been considered the 'Gold Standard' for the
song, but Angelina, in this performance, permeated my inner being with much more
emotion laden penetration than Bobby's great rendition. It's a fitting tribute to a
woman who is languishing in an Iranian prison for simply trying to improve women's
rights.

This event was held in Oslo, Norway as a tribute to Narges Mohammadi, the recipient of the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize. This event was not the official Nobel Prize Concert that was held 3 days earlier in Stockholm rather it was part of the Nobel prize events that took place during that week. Furthermore Angelina's 2014 performance for the same event was not at the official Nobel Prize Concert. She performed at Redd Barnas children festival that was held to honor that year's Peace Prize recipient. (This is info from another fan.)

This is such a fitting song for the occasion as it is about someone coming home from prison. Nargis is currently on a hunger strike in an Iranian prison. For he fight for equal justice for women in Iran, she was sentenced to 31 years in prison and 150 lashes. Her children, boy and girl, are the same age as Angelina and have not seen their mother since age 8. They are currently living in excile in France with their father and will be accepting the award on behalf of their mother. It is sad how, in the interview I watched,
they have both given up all hope of ever seeing their mother again.
Angelina, of course, has ties to Iran through Grandma Mery Zamani, so she's a fitting artist to perform at the award, and her song selection could not be better nor better performed.
