Greater Manchester Police accused of making woman who reported rape feel ‘worthless’

- Among the many damning criticisms in her report last year, Dame Louise Casey described the Met Police as institutionally sexist and misogynistic.

Later this year - a report will be published on another of the UK’s biggest police forces.
Dame Vera Baird is expected to make serious criticisms of Greater Manchester Police over their treatment of women in custody.
But this programme has heard from women who say a wider investigation is needed into the police force.
They say there’s a 'boys club culture' - and raise questions about the way women are treated when they make complaints about the force.

None of this is surprising. This is why I try my best to look out for myself because I know the police do not uphold justice.

@@LordOfLight the key phrase is "try my best." This isn't a woman who - heaven forbid - would offend your "truther" proclivities by stating outright that she can decimate these morons.
UK police have always downplayed, and never properly investigated those crimes!
When a police force says "We still have a long way to go" you know that they're not really going to try to fix things.
It's called due process
the comments section is easily scary. People are actually saying it wasn't rape. The UK is a sick society.
ok, criticising the police is where they draw the line. got it.
This is the problem now, that, due to public service cuts to the police and prosecution services, a case will only be put forward through the CPS if there is enough evidence for a guaranteed conviction, rather than enough evidence for a prosecution. Intimidating victims of crime to get them to make their own decision not to go ahead is despicable behaviour by the police. It's not good enough for police forces to apologise and say lessons will be learnt. The lessons should all have been learnt by now.
I knew it was ghb when she described how she felt, but when I later in the video heard it actually was I was still shocked 😢

The very fact my drink was spiked as well, and this lady accurately describes the symptoms, means she is telling the truth. Unfortunately for the suspect, I'm a red head and my biochemistry means I don't get drugged very easily. Obviously he wasnt an anaesthetist. I was able to pick up my friend, and get us both back to safety. As soon as we got through the door, we were vomiting everywhere after one glass of wine. I still remember being slammed into nearby buildings by my friend, who was incapacitated, and a lot bigger than me. I have no idea how I did it. Never leave any glasses unattended at the bar, even to turn around for seconds to put them on a table.

not really decline. The police have always been able to act like this. Much worse in the "good old days". It's just that now the victims of the police are actually being heard, even if nothing is being done about it just yet
Most of the time, police officers make referrals to the MASH Team after a person makes a complaint to GMP.
Usually the referrals to mental health services are done by police safeguarding teams and domestic abuse officers.
A man at the Salford Ask Andy Burnham Event in February, said that his partner works in mental health services and understands a lot of referrals by GMP officers are not right.
The Greater Manchester Deputy Mayor stated these referrals will be looked into.
My story would terrify you after my ex boyfriend died by suicide over 9 years ago.

I once contacted Manchester police a few years ago after there was a rapist on the loose and they made an announcement that women should stay indoors 😂 I said , wouldn’t it be a better idea to declare that a potential predator stay indoors, instead of asking potential victims to stay indoors 😅 [let’s be clear: I don’t think anyone’s human rights and freedom of movement should be violated, but if we HAVE to make a choice, the weight of responsibility can’t fall on the potential victims’ shoulders ! ]That’s victim blaming, it means if a woman does get raped, it was “her own fault” for being out and about. I received a reply, detailing how ludicrous my suggestion was that women shouldn’t be the ones to have to curtail their movements .
Put it this way, I wasn’t impressed.
Police Scotland is the same.

This is terrible. God help the victims.

Nothing new anyone who’s lived in Manchester or greater Manchester have known and experienced this for years from GMP they all proved what they were about in GMP regarding rape and even with rape from grooming gangs girls in care as far back as 1999 and even further back than that for DV GMP are well known for this and have been for years and still nothing is ever done despite news reports and independent investigations and still they’re allowed to still have police investigating police and still allowed to continue this and yeah right totally unrelated my back end they ran a woman out of Oldham for standing up to them Maggie Oliver helped that girl and magpies said what I have police mark their own homework and yes nothing is or ever will be done or change they do discriminate and target individuals and it will never change all too well known for it the GMP are cover ups left right and centre for years missing body cam and cell evidence in that poor woman’s case I still reckon she was raped in that cell they’ve always been bullies hahaha positive outcome rate for rape hmmm I beg to differ in that one

Police investigate accusation and determine he said, she said with no evidence is unlikely to get a conviction. Accuser gets mad and posts online about accused. Police have evidence in that case so move to arrest, but drop charges with context. This is a ridiculous story CH4. Innocent until proven guilty is an essential part of the criminal justice system, as is having sufficient evidence for prosecution. Is it a hard pill for a victim to swallow that there isn't enough evidence to proceed? Sure. But that doesn't mean police or the criminal justice system did anything wrong. It just means in a specific case there wasn't enough evidence to proceed.
I guess there's always people who are unable to comprehend what's going on. But carry on believing you're some kind of intellectual. Allow me to educate you. It's not about the alleged rape, its about the police arresting her for some comment she made months before, after lodging a complaint. Sharing only one side of the story is not responsible journalism. Domestic abuse, while abhorrent, is not rape. No evidence of rape has been offered in this story.
It’s not a court of law and they haven’t accused a named person in the report of doing so (quite right too).
Domestic abuse demonstrates a degree of contempt and hatred for women, as does rape.
they said he looked too nice to rape as if that's evidence he's innocent, he was nice enough to beat up his ex - rape is another form of violence and entitlement to control another's body - may not be enough to prosecute but him looking 'nice' isn't enough to prove his innocence and is a vile way to dismiss a woman's report. Its disgusting they accused her of malice when they had no proof of such thing.
