Rwanda refugees warn UK government - ‘our country is not safe’

  • After last night’s Common’s vote, the government said Britain will deport asylum seekers to Rwanda and that it is "unequivocally safe." (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
But we can reveal that the Home Office has been granting protection to those who have fled the country.
We’ve spoken exclusively to Rwandans, some of whom have been given asylum since the bill was introduced - the Home Office accepting their claim to have a well-founded fear of persecution.
One activist told us you are only safe if you stay silent.

Yeah, the Tories want to turn the UK into Rwanda. That’s why they’ve been outlawing peaceful protests and working to scrap human rights laws. The likes of Priti Patel and Jacob Rees-Mogg desperately want to be able to arrest anyone who disagrees with them. Because they know it’s the only way they get to take power back from the people and into their own hands

Look at the USA by their measure the USA is a dangerous country. Political activists, reporters and a lot more are arrested, detained without trial and waterboarded... Political systems are corrupt, courts are partisan and they arbitrarily seize private property in "legal forfeiture" by the same standards the USA is far far worse.

When you realise that the Prime Minister's wife's money could actually run the NHS for a month, and yet we have two young men sleeping rough outside our church (in the rain, as we discovered after the event), we have a steady stream of young families coming into the church living in 'temporary' accomodation, and thus unable to get their children into school…

Rwanda is a de facto one-party state, ruled by the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) and its leader Paul Kagame continuously since the end of the civil war in 1994. That state cares not one jot about if ANYONE within it 'feels' safe or not, other than those that run it. One false political move there and the place WOULD revert back to genocide at the drop of a hat.
Those that do run it are kept VERY safely away from those whom would much like Rwanda to feel safer, namely it's people. Visiting British home secretary's, festooned with British security detail around them, are also kept VERY safely away from anyone while visiting too.
The place is anything but safe for anyone seeking some actual safety. Attempting to say otherwise is like saying Jimmy Savile wasn't really interested sexually in children, he just liked a little cuddle every once in a while.

I fear that the end line of your first paragraph may be pretty accurate. What I will say in Paul Kagame is that he's somewhat the benign dictator in that I do think whilst he is a megalomaniac I do think he has Rwanda's best interest at heart. He's not personally corrupt and the economy is doing well. Obviously this is at the expense of political freedom, and an equitable reckoning on the genocide in that plenty of Hutus were killed too.

If it's so unsafe why did the EU have a big meeting there, why have the EU entered into a cooperation strategy, why is there an EU-Rwanda business forum?
_The presence of the European Commission in Rwanda started in the mid-1960s and was formalised in 1991 with the signature of an “accord de siège” with the Rwandan Government. Rwanda has a well-articulated policy framework to guide its developmental aspirations_
Firstly the EU didn't exist prior to 1993, it was the EEC but there was obvious European involvement in this so-called (alleged) dangerous "Russian like" country, HOW with such heavy European and claimed EU involvement?
It's only been pushing this when Britain hit an agreement with Rwanda to report illegal immigrants there. Strange timing.
Rwanda is part of the British Commonwealth, or as it is now just the commonwealth of nations. This isn't a backwater country...
_June 25, 2022 - Rwanda is a member of the Commonwealth Clean Ocean Alliance - the Blue Charter Action Group on tackling marine plastic pollution. ... Rwanda will host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) which was to have been held in Kigali in June 2021 but was postponed_ (due to you know what)...
It's a bit of a mixed message when bug global meetings, commonwealth membership and European involvement is OK, but deportation of illegal immigrants there is dangerous?

Rwanda is one of the safest countries because of rule of law. I have lived in a few countries, and I can tell you that there is no partiality here, especially for the leaders here. You should only be afraid of breaking the law because it is applied here. This is sincerely one of the most beautiful places on the face of this planet, and I am not Rwandan, I was a refugee here and I am privileged to call this place my home away from home. The "fear" people say they feel is because we foreigners have to be sensitive and respectful of the people of Rwanda, their history and how they choose to govern their nation. The people interviewed in this video have not anything for this country, but they have alot of things they want to "improve" Rwanda. I would not take this video seriously, take it from someone who has nothing to gain or lose from this. Come to Rwanda, or not.

Read this Human Rights Watch annual report. "World Report 2024 Rwanda". Asylum seekers don't want to be held in acutely stressful limbo for up to five years or more, not allowed to work. As soon as they are able, they want to regain the dignity which has often been brutally stolen from them and pay their own way by being allowed to work, as they would within a few weeks in most other European.
Are you happy for your taxes to go instead to finance a scheme which is many times more expensive - at least £1,800,000 per Asylum seeker - to send vulnerable people to one of the worst countries in the world for Human Rights (including disappearances and the punishment of street children), probably meaning they will never see their families again, and take refugees in exchange from Rwanda in return?
