There is mandatory military service for women and men in the State of Israel. I think that refusing is wrong because it is clear that the country needs the army and without the army Israel will not survive here surrounded by Arab countries that are not satisfied with our existence as a Jewish state here. I refused to serve in the occupied territories and protect the setlements, but I did serve as a medic at the Gaza borde, and I am proud of it. my family now sending money to my family's friends in Deir al-Balah, they hate Hamas and hope that the war will end when Hamas no longer rules there. The war, even if it is difficult, is against Hamas and not against the Gazans.

They just don’t realize that what they’ve been told is false until they see for themselves. Many of the soldiers know exactly what they’re doing, but some go in honestly thinking they’re the good guys until they see what their side is doing up close. Some of those people who wake up in the battlefield / military op rooms, and then desert, are in jail now. Meital Yaniv is one of the women who left after she served for a while and woke up to what is happening. She’s living in Los Angeles now to avoid being jailed in Israel, and she’s part of Jewish Voices foe Peace

I wouldn't want to spend one day in prison. This woman and the young man. Are very brave. It's not easy to stand up for what is right and to go to jail for it. I hope she runs for political office.

One of my great-great grandparents, a Quaker, was jailed for refusing to fight in World War I. He and other conscientious objectors suffered in prison, under horrible conditions that would now be considered illegal under international law. I pass no judgement on those Israelis who feel it is their duty to protect their country at such terrible times in history (like one great-great uncle of mine, who died in a German gas attack in the trenches), but I also have great respect for those who refuse to participate in wars due to the honest and sincere dictates of their consciences. I hope this family are happy and feel safe again.

This is very wrong and misleading. I've met thousands of Jewish Israelis and NEVER heard anyone say they hate a Palestinian. That would be stupid because Palestinians (also known is Israeli Arabs) also live INSIDE Israel (not just West Bank and Gaza) and go to the same universities, shopping, live in the same buildings, etc. Inside Israel they are neighbors and coexist. They hang out together on weekends, and though less common, marry each other. Goodness gracious that could NEVER be accepted in an Arab ruled country. 20% of the Israeli citizens are Arabs and growing each year. These Arabs have family in the West Bank and Gaza.
On the contrary, everyone I have met feels sorry for the Palestinians. They know that it is not a good life. But everyone knows why occupation and blockade are there I'm the first place...because every chance given Palestinians in West Bank and Gaza will kill Jews. They did this before Israel was created (when all Jews and Arabs in the area were considered "Palestinian"), they did this when borders were open, and they will do it if the blockade and occupation end. Everyone knows it, including Israeli Arabs. Israeli Arabs serve VOLUNTARILY in the IDF...and there are many. Israeli Arabs are politicians and judges. They go to the same schools. To say Israelis are "groomed" from a young age to hate Palestinians is a blatant lie. Go there and see for yourself. I am not Israeli. I'm not Jewish. But I have seen for myself that Israel is possibly the most diverse and possible tolerant country on the planet considering all of the extremist in the middle east. Truly a beautiful people, with no agenda, that other people hate and want to demonize just for being Jewish.
That said, it is true that there are some extremist Jews in Israel usually from a minority of very religious background. But the people who are "fighting" those people are...fellow Israeli Jews. This is why you see Israeli JEWS in Israel publicly protesting settlements in the West Bank, and Israeli JEWS advocating for public transportation on Saturdays.

What happens to conscientious objectors who grow up in Islamist families in Gaza or the West Banks? And what is the TV coverage like on Palestinian TV stations, you know, the free press there? Are they interviewing the family members of hostages or of those in Kibbutzim who managed not to be burned in ovens? Did they interview the Palestinian poet (before he was killed) about his ['With or without baking powder? tweet or did they ask Israelis how they felt about that tweet?

A democratic society has the right to form its own opinions, even if Western audiences might not like it. I do think that Israelis are better informed about the situation around it than Western audiences who might just have a very naive or simplistic view of it.
There is a reason why there are just two conscientious objectors: Because most Israelis are aware that they are under threat by Iran and antisemitic terrorist groups such as Hamas and that they have to protect themselves against it. Not all Israelis are in favor of the current conduct of the war however, there is a big divergence of opinion with regard to that.

If you're unwilling to defend your nation and its people against terrorists, that's your choice. However, the safety and freedom she enjoys are due to the sacrifices of soldiers who protect her and her family. How spoiled and comfortable must she be to not only decline military service (there are alternative roles like nursing or supporting in the kitchen) but also to criticise those who defend you and the very country you call home. Without an army, she would have been 6 feet under de ground by now or floating in the Mediterranean sea even before October the 7th.
Should Americans support the war of Afghanistan or Iraq which was proven to have been a lie by the US government? Just because people are fighting, does not mean you cannot oppose the cause, especially when it is a cause as sickening as the israeli genocide campaign to steal Palestinian land.

After 02. 24.22( the day of Russian z-army invasion to Ukraine) a lot of Russians approved this criminal war against Ukraine and even there were real nazists among them, who wished Ukraine to be destroyed, or like "there is no nation like Ukranians, they are all Russians and we will conquer all Ukraine" And so on...
And now 2 years later after being hit on a muzzle Russians wants the war to end. But, unfortunately we, Russians now are occupying ~20% pf Ukrainian territory. And all like me who are against this occupation of Ukraine and against war with Ukraininans - all we are called "traitors" by compatriots.
So I really feel bad for Ukrainians and Palestinians. Cause they had to face the similar problem.🤕
