Malaysian PM defends Hamas, condemns West 'hypocrisy' | DW News

  • Malaysia's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has spoken out about what he called Western "hypocrisy" over the war in Gaza compared to attitudes to Ukraine. Speaking to DW's Richard Walker in Berlin, Anwar slammed Western countries such as Germany for in his view failing to use their influence to make Israel halt the fighting. He argued that Hamas's unprecedented terror attacks of October 7th 2023 were "understandable" in the context of the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.
This extensive interview explores the deepening divisions in global attitudes to the Middle East Conflict. The West broadly rallied to Israel's side after Hamas killed more than 1,000 people and kidnapped hundreds on October 7th. But as casualties in Gaza have mounted even higher, that unity has fractured, and many in the Global South have voiced anger over perceptions that the West is indifferent to civilian suffering on the Palestinian side. Anwar Ibrahim expresses this anger - and goes on to set out why he believes in improving relations with Iran despite its repressive regime, and why he opposes "phobia" towards China. And finally he gives his reflections on his more than 10 years behind bars in Malaysian jails.

I don't condone any civilians getting caught in the crossfire. But in Israel civilian is a grey area. Pretty much anyone of military age are reservists of the Israeli army. They have all enlisted in the army as its compulsory that Israelis serve in the IDF. Morover, Israel deliberately puts settlers in border territory to dissuade attacks since they know that generally the Palestinian resistance is hesitant to attack civilians that occupy their former territories. The rocket attacks are intended as a nuisance. the resistance has shown what they can do if they really wanted to target civilians.

No training required.. so with your logic, it's a bit hard to distinguish between civilians and potential recruits, which most of us seem to find it understandable why they've (humus) taken up arms.. including young Palestinians who may have barely touched the age of 16. When Israelis pull out of Gaza to let the Palestinian self govern, they even dug up their death and not even one Israelis soldiers was in Gaza before the 7Oct attack. The Palestinian instead of building the infrastructure and to improve their economy strength, they spend money to build tunnels and rockets to shoot into Israel. This attack is a case in point why the Israelis are reluctant to return the surrounding land to the Palestinian. It proves again and again that the Palestinian do not want peace. If the Israelis want to commit genocide, they have the military might to do as demonstrated and they would have done it long time ago.
