It definitely did get smaller. It takes ages now to invade people in the less popular areas for example like Consumed King's garden and generally everywhere apart from Lothric Castle. It should get bigger again once another DLC comes out.

Honestly, if summoned phantoms could choose whether they fight the player or aid them against the boss, From could easily do away with all the complicated online options, and just make it a gambit on the part of the summoner. Imagine if you could summon people, but had no way of knowing whether they'd help you or kill you, and just had to trust them. It'd be so much more tense, and so much more exciting if you ask me.
I mean that's the idea of the Moundmakers in general, at least with their summon signs. I love the idea of them, but they only get the reward if phantoms die, so I only ever tried it in hotspots like the forest or pontiffs. If they could go help with the boss without just the glitch and get the reward for the boss win as well, that'd be great.
I think it would be better if defeating a boss netted a much greater reward than slaying a host, as most hosts are hilariously easy to kill. That way, summoning would be a gamble of someone who wants the higher tiered, albeit more difficult to obtain reward, vs someone who wants the quick, minor reward of butchering the helpless host.
Meanwhile it sounds intriguing the thought of not knowing whether your summon is friend or foe, I still have to say that it would suck considering you might just want to have fun cooping and then all of a sudden a lazy neck beard like Oroboro (no offense Oroboro) joins and just desimates you doens't seem fair nor fun
I like that you still get an ember for actually killing the boss, meaning the betrayal is completely optional unless you really need those s̶h̶e̶k̶e̶l̶s shackles.
Also, this should be a game all on its own. You have powerful bosses but all of the allies you summon are either friendly, or actually out to kill you/your help/other assassins. And while fighting the boss you need to be on the look out for these people and their constant infighting. It would be like any good game of DnD.
They're definitely going to fix this, but I so wish they didn't. It's the most fun PvP mechanic this game has ever had. Running to fog gates because you're scared of an invader shouldn't even be a thing, they should just be able to enter by default if you're human anyway.

that last fight, made me realize How much I REALLY want a Raid in a Dark souls 3... 5-6 or more ppl with a WoW Formula dungeon / raid... a Very hard boss multiphase, with Adds that spawn so some ppl have to take care of adds, some Range mages or archer on Ledges that mellee weapons cant reach so magic or Bows are actually usefull, ranged DPS... cmon, it would be Epic as F*ck !

If you don't want to deal with this, then my advice is to use it before entering a boss fight, just to be sure no invading Mound-Makers are in your world. This glitch does not need to be patched because the solution for it is already in your inventory. In my opinion, this glitch is much needed because the Mound-Makers is such a cool concept, yet not given justice. No one is gonna touch a purple summon sign unless they want to gank you. The ability to enter boss fights adds even more to the covenant. Do you truly trust this person or will you play it safe and banish them? It's such a brilliant idea.
+Oroboro If you want a good time, try DamnNoHtml's Havelest build. I've modified it so you can deal with shields and make use of your poise: mugenmonkey.com/darksouls3/129304 It is so fun to just roll away from everything (rolling OP) and slowly ping people to death with free-aimed explosive bolts. Good practice for dodging all kinds of attacks too! Hardest matchup is katanas for their incredible aggro capabilities, but rolling is still OP enough to make it a possible win.
