If you invade someone's world the game is designed to let you stalk them, strategically attack them when they're not ready and exploit anything. It's a brutal game.

Alright, I'm coming to you OroboroTheNinja, I love Dark Souls, gameplay is awesome, and at times the PVP is amazing, but I get backstabbed left and right, and chained out the ass, I want to know how to counter this, I've done the Counter BS's but they don't seem to work, and they still get the back stab, and put me on the ground allowing for a wake up it doesn't do any damage, but it still comes out on top, that, and once they put me on the ground I'm chained until death, what the fuck do I do? I've reviewed MULTIPLE bs vids on how not to get BSed but it still happens TL;DR I get backstabed they chain, can't do shit, wat do? Inb4 "Git Gud"
+Blizzard-Knight- You can also avoid any kind of stun => backstab with what oro told you, (kick into backstab, weapon hit stun into backstab, wog into backstab etc). Bare in mind that you are still vulnerable to attacks, and good chainers will mix chains with attacks that will punish the "stand still and wake up" thing (great combustion is a very good exemple). Also, when you try a counter backstab, very often you and your opponent will backstab eachother at the same time, cancelling any damage. Both of you will go through the falling animation, but only your character will do the animation on your screen. On your opponent screen, he will be the one falling on the ground, while you look like you're staying up.
That was an interesting tactic that was being done with the Moonlight Greatsword... Lock on to the target, then as they move to roll, unlock and hit the ground where they would land... The explosion is difficult to block as they are just leaving the roll animation with the blast being treated as though that target has been hit head on. At least, that's what I saw.

What some people forget is that pvp ethics kind of go out the window when you have two players trying to kill you at the same time
Probably gonna catch flak for this, but I don't get the whole "R1 spam" stigma. I mean, unless you're dual wielding, you only have four means of attack: R1, R2, rolling R1 and back step/running R1, plus maybe some items. If you don't wanna get stunlocked, don't get hit... *note: all this coming from a filthy dex build user*
I only find it annoying one builds with high poise... like so high they can take two UGS swings and laugh x.x
As a DS2 USG user I HAVE to do it or I get back stabbed when people roll through my slow swings. Spamming it let's me do a 360 so I don't get absolutely wrecked.

To say what Jungle is trying to say. The game has an odd calculation. If you "backstab" the air where an opponent began a flip, you can actually cause a Teleport-Backstab.
