You’ve already said you don’t like how big it is, but to have better battery life it would need to be even bigger still. So you’re not being very reasonable. ROG Ally has worse battery life.

    Battery life: I think the Deck is still much better compared to the others, Ally and Lenovo. And with the SteamOS behind, and the optimization, and for games in the 10-15w range, it runs better.
    My 512 was pretty much worth it, July last year. I've put in hundreds of hours to the 4 digit range.
    I have to admin, in the last half year I didn't use it as much as before but I also found a great benefit.
    It does run dual boot Windows, and for a while windows drivers are working fine now. First for games running not great on SteamOS but I kind a like it as an internet machine, browsing etc. when plugged into the hub with a big screen.
    On windows the Steamdeck runs better, more fluid compared to the SteamOS desktop, which I've tried out but was not a fan.
    The 700 Euro was ok, (fantastic back then) a 400 Euro 64GB version is even now the best deal for your money, IMO.

    Had my OLED for a week now, and it's everything I ever wanted. Playing great PC games on my breaks at work and my many commutes, when I'm downstairs away from my PC, when I'm in bed etc, it's insanely cool. The battery life is fine for me. I only play for short bursts, and have figured out how to make some mouse and keyboard games work flawlessly, like Two Point Hospital, yes it had a console port but the PC version has no controller support, but I used someone's preset and added even more precise control. Love it.
    In Battlebit Remastered, I have the preset that adds a circle menu on the left touch pad for the numpad selectors for your many weapons/gear slots, in Titanfall 2 I have it set to be a secondary Dpad that in certain situations is easier to reach. There's many cool options that the Steam Deck makes available, the customisability is jaw dropping

    My Deck lasts for days when unplugged and not being used, so that’s definitely an issue with your Deck.
    There’s actually been a weird battery health bug that’s led people’s decks to drain faster than they should be, so maybe it’s that? I actually encountered this bug a few weeks ago and had the same issue you’re having, where the battery would just deplete rapidly, even when I wasn’t doing anything. I looked into it and managed to fix it, so maybe this will help yours too.
    Iirc you have to let it drain to zero, boot it into the bios by turning it back on while holding volume +, then leave it alone to continue draining completely. Once it’s completely dry and shuts down, plug it back in. If it turns on automatically, repeat the steps again. If it doesn’t turn on automatically, leave it to charge for around 6 to 8 hours. It should be fixed.
    To check, boot into desktop mode and click on the battery symbol in the bottom right corner. Check your battery health. If it’s around 13% then it didn’t work and you should contact Valve, but otherwise you’re in the clear!

    How's storage? like 64GB enough? lol I mean I'm struggling with steam on my PC having 1TB to get more games on it. Like literally playing 8 games at once...

    I wish we went back to removable batteries. Imagine your steam deck dies and you replace it with one of three batteries you have in your backpack. I use to run 5 different batteries for my phone so having power wasn’t a issue even when running app that were know for high power drain. If I mod my deck I’m going to make the battery a quick Replaceable option.

    was just trying to figure out if i wanted ally legion go or steam deck, at the end of the day, with prices and overall performance metrics available i went with a base 64 gig model for 400 bucks, chucked a 1 tb NVME SSD for 90 bucks and have a top tier version now for about 500 bucks, way cheaper than the 700 competition with 2x the storrage. none of the pluses for the ROG or lenovo ones was worth the 200+ dollars more for those at the end of the day. My first week with the device has been great. So nice to be able to game in bed, as well as stream games from my pc from bed/couch.

    Just got the new OLED Steam deck and I've been really enjoying it but I'm still in the honey moon phase so we'll see how it lasts long term but so far I'm having a hard time finding faults.

    I got the OLED around Christmas. I dig it, especially because I travel a lot for work and it helps pass the time. I'm a PC gamer primarily so using joysticks is a transition but it suits my needs just fine.

    Always loved handheld gaming, owned all sorts over the years. I love my steam deck, but I would only recommend it to certain people. It takes too much tinkering for a non tech savvy person to set it up. I remember when I got my Ps vita I couldn't put it down was always on it, I found it easier to jailbreak my ps vita than I do setting up stuff on the steam deck sometimes. I also can go days without even picking up the steam deck and even when I do pick it up to play somw. As good as Linux and steam OS is I also think they are the Achilles heel to the steam deck. At times I also think the screen is too small. The pros that I love are the touch pads, I would never get a PC handheld without a track pad on it. The battery life is acceptable for a handheld and the easiness of opening it up is nice too!

    My tip as an owner of 2 Steam Decks. Go for the cheaper models. You can upgrade the SSD for cheap and it does not void the warranty or anything.
    If you are into this channel then you can probably handle upgrading it with the right screwdriver for the job. Also, I find that the anti-glare screen on the 512gb model makes the screen look noticeably less sharp than the other models and doesnt really do much.

    • @alyxoj1361
      @alyxoj1361 Před 7 měsíci +24

      @@ramyssou Yep works fine. But I’m more talking to people who were about to going for the 512gb version because they want the most storage. It is also cheaper to get a 1tb SSD than a 1tb SD card.

    • @Ferrari255GTO
      @Ferrari255GTO Před 7 měsíci +12

      @@ramyssouit does have an issue; while SD cards aren't terribly slow, an SSD is still far better when it comes to speed, wich does increase performance in games

    • @ramyssou
      @ramyssou Před 7 měsíci +3

      @@alyxoj1361 applying an SSD on my own is a bit risky , even professionals in this in my country aren't that familiar with the deck, however, with a warranty, any potential issues can be resolved

      Thanks for the review! My husband and I possibly want to get our own steam decks and I figured the cheapest would be the best option for us right now. The sd isn’t hard to change AT ALL and its cheaper.
      Do you think it’d be worth it for us both to get our own? Could we play games together or do we need to buy two copies of everything?? I haven’t been on steam in years so I forget a lot.
