      Für einen selbst ist sowas halt eher Alltag. Geht uns ja ähnlich wenn wir irgendwo was fremdes im Ausland essen.
      For oneself this is just everyday stuff. We have the same experience when we visit other countries and eat foreign food.

      If I remember correctly, "Döner Kebab" translates to "spinning meat", referring to the meat being cooked on a vertical rotisserie. Which means that my vegetarian Döner usually has neither Döner nor Kebab.

    Having lived in Germany my whole life, I cannot imagine what it feels like to eat a Döner and drink a Mezzo Mix for the first time.

    Döner (Kebap) seems so ordinary to me as an Austrian but seeing you eat it with such ecstasy makes me appreciate this food more haha.

      its nothing special, but that makes it so good. you know? its everywhere, every döner shop makes it a bit different. its not expensive but a tasty full meal. also you can get a döner at like 3 in the morning. combine that and its the unbeatable fast food.

      In the US, 78% of the long distance trains are on time but “on time” means not more than 90 minutes of delay.

    As an origial Cologne girl this video actually made me emotional - especially when you left the trainstation and saw the Dom for the first time ...I think that moment would melt every true cologne persons heart 😍❤!!       @@kowaljanowski I just used all the detective skills I have and apparently it's "Nazar Grill" in Porz - I noticed they are in Porz and at Minute 3:20 you can see the flyers of the restaurant :) Have never been and also never heard about this one but then again there are a looot of Döner Places in Cologne and I guess everyone has their fave spot :)

    for me as a german it's kinda funny how you pointed out that mezzo mix tastes like a mix of coca cola and orange fanta, because that's what it basically is. it's a german brand of the coca cola company and their slogan is "cola küsst orange" (cola kisses orange)

      also: when i was a teen you could buy a „Schülerdöner“ for 2,50 € and you‘re absolutely right- i tried Döner in other countries but the ones in germany are the real deal!!! nothing compares.

    This brings back some memories! I went to Cologne in 2019 and went all the way up the cathedral as well. Also went down to the catacombs. It was awesome out of all the other churches / cathedrals, this one has been the best, in my opinion. Loved my trip to Germany.

    We've once made a trip with our class to cologne and our teachers didn't want to go all the way up the kölner dom, but allowed all of the students to go up if they wanted to... just a second after they said that, all of the stoners in class were literally running up the stairs as fast as possible, to enjoy the view while smoking some joints at the top. It was great, i'll never forget it

    I really like that you enjoyed the cathedral so much. Nowadays, it seems like we only care about functionality and our buildings tend to look like sh1t. Seeing old buildings like this really puts it into perspective. There is this awe that this kind of architecture envokes that just is not a thing anymore, sadly. We don't understand that buildings represent so much more than just function in our current time.

      I really enjoy old parts of cities, where every other house is at least half a century old and the streets too narrow for cars. I feel like that the cities, especially the car-oriented ones, have lost their human touch. They are just a concrete and glass desert with a few carefully trimmed plants.

      Architect here: I sincerely apologize for the lack of outstanding spiritual architecture nowadays. Projects on this scale which are built with public money are extremely rare. If you take inflation into account we'd be looking at more than a billion in worth. Noone's paying that. If of course you have a billion bucks lying around and are willing to invest in a private project, hit me up, I'm up for it 👍🏻

    Your reaction to germany and to the döner was so wholesome and adorable! I really enjoyed watching you. Makes me cherish the country I live in even more ❤️ I moved to germany in 2001 and I am until this day so grateful to live here an not in the country I was born in. Its such a shame how many germans don't see how nice it is to live here and how privileged we are. Of course not everything is perfect but it is so much better than in a lot of countries!!!

    Thank you for reminding me how beautiful it is to make it to the top of those stairs of the cathedral. I made the trip 4 times in my youth and it is beyond my health now, but it was just an inspiring reminder to enjoy the things we have right in front of us, friends, trains (tho late as can be) and ofc Döners. I can understand why many Germans fallow you, your low-key down to earth but genuine reactions are a delight, and makes me excited as well and giddy seeing you try new things. Never loose your drive to go on adventures!

    You're absolute right with your description of Mezzo Mix. It is Cola mixed with Orange... In German it wears the slogan: "Cola küsst Orange" this actually means: "Coke kisses orange" :)
    Yeah and by the way a good made Döner taste really great :)

      ​@@lukedzn5665 in Estonia they are pretty much copies of the german ones. We even import the same meat rolls and same grills are used.
      Bout 15 years ago there were almost no döners here - the first thing i did whem visiting germany was to eat döner :D

      @@lukedzn5665 It probably depends in the region. I come from a region south of Frankfurt, a city called Darmstadt, and it is markedly different from where I live now, Sweden. I have not visisted Finland yet so I do not know how close they are from my old stomping grounds. That being said, even in that city and my birthplace Erbach, and several other small towns inbetween, there can be very noticable differences between stores.

    Cologne is really ok. A nice German city with some cool hotspots.
    But, for your next visit, you‘ll need a lot of more time 🙂
    Berlin, Hamburg, München, Frankfurt, Nordsee, Ostsee, Spreewald, Alpen etc….
    There is so much much more…. 🙂

    Debatable how healthy a Döner actually is but compared to American style fastfood, it definately is healthy. Simple ingedients, a lot of vegetables, just put together before eating, letting the aroma infuse for a while (always ask for Döner zum Mitnehmen!!!). It is amazing. Glad you enjoyed it.

    The funny thing about the Dom is:
    You can see him from far away if you are high enough.
    There is a place in Königswinter(Bonn) called "Drachenfels"(=Dragonsrock) that was once a castle/watchtower.
    And if its sunny enough, you can see the Dom on the horizon. The Dom is 35km(Airline/sigh line)) and 42km(with a car) away.

    10:30 Your camera is recording 60 frames per second (or a multiple 30, 120 Hz). The lights are flickering in the footage because our european power grid is not operated with 60 Hz (US-standard), but with 50 Hz. Flourescent light tubes and bulbs operate with this speed to. Our human eye cannot see, that the lights turn on and of 50 times a second. But your camera does.
    To avoid flickering in your recordings, you have to set your camera to a multiple of 50 frames per second (25, 50, 100).

    I live near Cologne and it makes me very happy that you are enjoying your time in Germany. If you are still in the area, I recommend that you further explore the cities along the Rhine valley. In Bonn you can visit the birthplace of Beethoven. Taking a boat trip on the Rhine is very touristy but still very nice. Maybe you want to take the train to Koblenz as the view is super amazing. We also have some open air museums (Freilichtmuseum) with collections of historic buildings if you are into more history-stuff. Sure, these aren't flashy activities but it's very "German" ...and would get you some unusual footage. 🎉

The museum has many important artefacts from Beethoven's life on display such as his first harpsicord and Beethoven's hearing aid. Ok, it's frickin boring...apart from that, the man spent most of his life in Austria.

    i never really thought about it and was really amazed by modern cities and stuff when i was younger but when a friend visited my hometown and the city has those old buildings from 1800 but there are stores inside, my friend was blown away and said it looks like a town straight out of a medieval movie but crossover modern day society. as an adult now i can see that and appreciate it
