All players want to call a club home at tbe end of their career. James Milner has played for 4 clubs but he will call Liverpool home after he has retired even though he grew up a Leeds fan. Owen calls himself a Liverpool fan but you don't see LFC bringing out the red carpet for him like they will do for Milner. And the reason is simple. He played for United. Matt Busby, a legend, captained Liverpool but he will not be high on the list of LFC's VIPs because he managed United and made them a force. RIP Busby.

So, he spoke with his agent who said that only 3 clubs were interested in signing him Everton, Hull City and Manchester United.
It was Hull or Everton. United hadnt shown interest at the time. He rejected Hull and went to America to speak with Moyes about joining Everton. When he came home he got the call from Ferguson and couldnt say no.
Owen did the worst thing U can do in football, is to play for the biggest enemy, he knew that more than anybody and did it anyway 👎

Michael Owen, arguably the most talented English player of this generation. A natural goalscorer. To not have the love of the fans of any of the clubs he played at, and not be regarded as an all time legend for how good he was, it's a shame

When he went to United at the end of career his other option was a relegated hull city, he hadn’t played for liverpool for years and he had the opportunity to play with great players under a great manager, if it was a direct move from liverpool to United then you’d have a better case for an argument
This was 2009 and Hull were still in the Premier league. He'd been injured consistently for 4 years and was just relegated himself with Newcastle. So of course you go to Hull. No questions asked
He picked the wrong team , should have gone to Hull City.

He was still great at Madrid but wasn't getting much game time. His time at Newcastle was disaster. Injuries cut his career shorter. He joined United on free and made good impact even without the blistering pace he was still predatory in the box and his finishing was still so great.
Ince joining liverpool was inexcusable.
