love hearing coyote guys take apart a pushrod motor and being horrified at the lack of tech
The lack of technology is what will make the 7.3 so popular among truck owners.
Why? Coyotes are noisy and complicated, good head design and proven tech will always win.
@@noone42069 dohc have been around for 30-40 years in regular cars
@@noone42069 the coyote head flows better than anything, dohc really isn’t complicated either…
Speaking of, I don't know that I could put in any cam without a ton of lube
Let alone dry
Nothing sounds better than a large displacement cammed Ford.
Imo the best sound is a high compression, high revving sbf, even the little 289...
Cammed chevy*
@@jz2127 cammed chevys sound like a wet fart. Keep trying to cope...
@@AR-uz4ek a small block Ford a Chevy sounds the same, it all depends on what type of cam you put in. Has nothing to do with it being a Ford or Chevy.
@@nickwebb9937 False. They sound different. The Ford windsor has a distinct sound. I can easily tell the difference by just listening to them. Anyone with good hearing can.
Sounds so sweet! Sounds like a truck is supposed to. Good job guys. Thanks
It seems crazy to me that you can get heads / cam, but not normal “service” parts like a head gasket.
Goes to show how the performance aftermarket in USA are on top of their game while the stealerships don't want anybody but their own people to work on what they sell.
Everything is a problem, nowadays.
I want to see how Ford improves this engine. I’m waiting for 600 torque stocked and hopefully 560+ HP. Fingers crossed it will be that way in 2 years
Now that's what I'm talking about.
So worth the effort and time, Great work man 👍 👌
Keep up the great work, cant wait to see the next video!
I wish the new Raptor sounds like that...good 👍 job
So you're saying we should swap one 🤔
What a beast! Gotta love it. Can't wait for the whipple!
That sucker is gonna scream with a Whipple
Those headers look BIG!! 😳
If he doesn't find another 50-70 wheel, that heads/cam package seems to fall short of what it should be.
Yah I was expecting more..
The stock heads are already pretty good. Thats why the gain is not that huge.
Agreed ! Wonder what's holding up the show ?
He stated he’s limited by the intake manifold.
The stock intake is probably pretty restrictive
Really enjoyed the video! And the truck sounds great 👍
Sounds amazing!
Sounds perfect
She sounds like an oldschool muscle car love it and I'm a Chevy guy. Good job guys👍
You guys are terrific. I’m a little rusty and you’ve helped me out immensely for when it’s my turn. Mines a 23 Lariat 7.3. What an amazing power plant.
BTW YOU HAVE A BAD ASS TRUCK.❤
this is my dream truck! Love it!
Good job. Truck moves pretty good and sounds great.
This is an awesome video! I love this truck!
Awesome!!! I am swapping the same camshaft into my engine right now. Can’t wait to fire it up and roast some tires (on the track of course)
I'm swapping a fbo 02 lightning powertrain into my 99 Expedition. $12k for 410whp/490lbft 😌
I'll subscribe if you go to mexico and shoot some roll races 😂👍
@@ForcedfedFords please make it look like a lightning too Ford was supposed to build a lightning version of the expedition but never did
@@itsjusta2v198 they did build one... only one
@@derrickthomas5686 it was never built for the public though
It sounds amazing
Sounds awesome
Very Nice! Sounds Badass! I can see going into debt to get one in my 90 Notch. LOL
Find out the thread pitch of the cam bolt and buy bolt from Fastenal to build a cam tool.
Thank you for posting.
Gotta love the pushrod sound
Great install- 🍻
Love that Godzilla engine! It has great power potential.
LOL the dude in the back of the f150 at 33:45 must have been like hell yeah brother! got him a free show haha
That thing looks fun to drive
Just watching this makes my lower back hurt, too many days I spent on the garage floor on my back. Life has caught up, slick work fellas.
That sounds awesome 👌
1:54 stock cam
26:20 upgraded cam
Big difference.
Great vid Ken!!
Was going to ask about the cam timing. I think you'll pick up another 40-50hp with the rest of the induction flowing as it should.
You can make 150 hp easy with the head and cam packages that are out now..
Friendship, wow takes me back. Pulled quite a few fox parts from there about 19 years ago. Born and raised in Burlington County, migrated to Atlantic.
I love the truck with the options that it has and the amount of power and sound it puts out is just a beautiful package. I would daily that everywhere as long as I could afford the 93 octane wink 😉!
So good. I wish we could get these in Australia.
Just a heads up but when you were talking about lobe separation you were looking at lobes for 2 different cylinders instead of lobe separation for the same cylinder. In this engine, for example, the 1st lobe and the 3rd lobe go to cylinder number one and the 2nd lobe and the 4th lobe go to the next cylinder, on so on. No 2 lobes side by side will go to the same cylinder on an in block cam V engine. 15:34
Love it! Makes me want a F250 now...
Sounds good !
Sounds good
Awesome video
It’s no wonder the coyote is so popular, a lot of H.P. Parts. I’m sure the 7.3 is going to be a great engine.
I can see it really competing with the l.s pushrod big displacement and bore when some more mods come out I think we will see alot of swaps being done on the strip
@@kx250braap I'm a Ford guy, but not even comparable to an LS. They're way cheaper to build. A Godzilla is dumb money to start with.
@@Theupstateidiots Newer GM style pushrod V8s aren’t even LS’s anymore, if your talking about older generation GM 5.3s, 6.0s, and 6.2s, then hell yeah, those were just better to start with overall, especially since parts are so available on those engines. But newer style GM V8s aren’t so hot as they used to be, personally I think this 7.3 is a better engine overall than any modern GM V8 , especially because you don’t gotta deal with that direct injection crap either.
@Nate 8.1 vortec in my RV with Allison 1000
@@thinkkops853 that's settles it... Older LS engines are better than this new Ford 7.3
Looks like you inadvertently dodged the lifter failure issue by replacing early! Good to see it holding together a year later with boost! My 7.3 is 5 star tuned and mostly stock. Great workhorse
Thanks, that was really interesting.
Holy shit! She moves!
Wow.
I’m ex ford racer and that really made think about doing the exact same truck to use for work and then go play
Hell Yes
First time viewer and pretty awesome. As a ford guy this is very cool to see these engines being upgraded.
I plan on buying one of these trucks definitely need to bring it to you guys
I'm liking that 7.3 more and more.
I thought there were a few other performance shops getting 700+ on an engine dyno with head work (Factory castings), intake and cam. That truck rolls out and sounds great!
Engine dyno, these numbers are whp
This motor is probably making 600+ engine HP.
Gosh😉 Very very Pleasant
Cool video
Bad ass love the truck
Thanks!
Shop truck, gotta represent! 😎
Love it.. I got a 5.4 3 valve 2010 fx2 sport.. full exhaust with headers cold air kit with a set of Shelby rails n injectors.. it's a crew cab .. I love your content.. but I definitely need a tune.. best time was 13.79@103mph in st Thomas ont Canada.. it's my family truck just ain't fast enough
Not a bad time for a truck. With a tune it’ll probably be scratching 12s
Awesome finally a Ford truck worth having again
Lol as compared to what. Nothing out there is actually a track . Lol
That's why I love my old muscle cars...heads and cam on a old fox body gave you so much more than 57hp...lol and my old Galaxie with a 390 gained over 120hp with heads and cam with high flow manifolds. But i will say this fords technology and willingness to build another OHV makes me smile and with the power numbers these new engines put out the old engines are outclassed by smaller displacement more efficiently designed engines. The coyote is a special kind of engine. I smile every time i wrap the tach to 7500rpm. I own a 16 Gt with a few mods and 6 speed and I love the power of the coyote it may not have the tq of other engines but that coyote has legs for days and in most races i it chases down the adversary...but I will say this I am saving up for a 7.3 I wanna put it in a older ride mid 60s-73 car or truck or maybe a crown vic.....maybe I should buy a nova or a 55 chevy and put the 7.3 in it and start a Ford Godzilla in everything like they do with those junk ls engines...maybe guys will start putting Ford engines back in Ford Vehicles...
That’s all
You need power wise!
Look at the BTR Truck Norris cam. It has a tight LSA and makes good torque down low and power gains up top with relatively mild cam timing. Because the LSA is tight it's pretty lumpity despite the mild lift/duration numbers. I'd like to see something like that for the 7.3.
That first line got my subscription
I’m not quite sold on a heads and cam kit for this powerplant quite yet. Hopefully with a better intake it’ll at least get to the 70+ HP gain area. But it’s a start, still lots of promise for this engine.
Include the phazer delete and it can tune up better.
Might want to get new intake as well. HOLLEY got them.
The 7.3 sounds sooo good. Lol
Not to long ago I got to fool around with a 427 clevor setup with a big boy s488 and kinda fell in love, I'm still a die hard gm guy and ls swap nearly everything I've owned. I really like the 7.3 from what I've seen on vids and read its definitely gonna be a bad bitch but IDK about the oil pump setup. Hell I bought a Fairmont wagon 4 or 5 years ago that was built in the early 2000's and was the first 6 second (1/8) car I got to ride in when I was 11 or 12 in 01 or 02 it's a stock suspension and location street/strip car. It was gonna get a 4.8 and a turbo when I bought it but ended up letting it sit until a few months ago. I ended up buying a buddy's old nitrous dart shp block 408 clevor with speed master heads I'm gonna freshen it up throw some new rods, pistons and cam for all the boost from a gt5591 I got laying around and Holley efi. Maybe before 2021 ends I will have my first SBF car!
That's how to do it. There's a stock bodied radial '70 Falcon made 2819hp on a mainline hub dyno, with 450 cube SBF. Just google Dandy engines Falcon dyno. Not sure how many ls engines could even match that !!
That's how my 5.4 3v sounded when I started it after building it. I need to get it on the Dyno see how much it's making.
@@NMTrucks did a full rebuild at 200k. No issues but phasers we're loud. Stage 2 xfi comp cams, pac racing springs, ported the heads, locked out phasers, melling oil pump, King bearings, hyper pistons, performance rings, Ford performance rollers and followers, OBX, long tubes, and just put on a 3" MBRP exhaust. Tune by power hungry performance.
Ah a cammed pushrod motor. Sounds awesome
Those new transmissions do a lot too. Keeps it in the torque range.
At times new hi tech is too much work for me. Interesting to watch. Hope soon ARP will make regular three step head bolts and cam bolt for the Ford 7.3. 😎
Those head bolts are no joke.
Ooof I really hope they get these numbers worked out there’s 6.0 ly6 making 550 hp so I hope they find a good combo
That motors almost 600hp at the crank lol. Their stage 3 package made I think 690 crank hp on engine Dyno. Over 7 with a intake mani if I correct
that sounds awesome and nice number to great work guys....
That’s bad ass!
Sounds really strong when your laying on it
I know that more gears are better for maintaining power but I’d rather have 6 5 or 4 gears because downshifting sounds so awesome
Would love to have a 7.3 w/ a six speed select shift.
30:39 so crazy that it’s just a single cab!!! 😅😂😂. Illegal in CA. WE ONLY HAVE 4 door short bed trucks !!
Great video I’d like to pick up a 7.3 soon
Go for it!
Just the tune and exhaust with a cold air intake system would be good enough for me lol
What is the final compression ratio after the head swap?
Badass!
Just think what can be done to a 460, then imagine the potential of the 7.3
*A Whipple and 1 thousand horse pressures would be awesome 👌*
Love this build! Maybe I missed it but what gears are in the truck?
So how did you go about putting a catch can? I just bought signal cab dually 2020 7.3 with 13,000 miles and couldn’t help but notice how much oil was in the in the combustion chamber in your video. Thanks for the knowledge on the alien mechanicals
just needs a big turbo on that thing... open up the ring gap and spool it uppppp
Just some general rambling on my part here...
I can imagine how strong this would be with appropriately flowing intake, throttle body, cam, heads, headers and exhaust, coupled with a supercharger. With the cam specced with the supercharger in mind, I can imagine LOTS of power out of this thing. The key, I'm thinking, is making sure the intake is sized appropriately to provide the supercharger enough air, and the exhaust is appropriately sized to ensure little to no backpressure. However, oversizing some of these components could lead to loss of torque (like if the headers have too large a primary diameter, lower velocity will reduce the cylinder scavenging effect, and so forth).
It's good to see someone working on development for the internals for this engine; it'll be interesting to see what cam/head combos become available.
We'll be throwing a proper intake manifold and tb on it soon!
@@PalmBeachDyno Outstanding! Looking forward to it. 😀
Someone did a supercharger for it early made over 1000 hp with stock everything
@@stephenfazekas1568 Now just imagine how much power a purpose built Godzilla would make 🍺😀👍🏻
I’m coming to you when I get one. I want that thing chopping like an old school 302 with a fat comp cam in it
Epic intro 😅😆🤣
Sounds just right for a daily. Glad Ford went back to this engine design. My only concerns is the problematic vct and the chain drive oil pump set up.
WHAT, YOUD RATHER HAVE A 5/16 THICK 10 INCH LONG PIXIE STICK DRIVE YOUR OIL PUMP? DONT YOU KNOW HOW MUCH BETTER THAT DESIGN IS COMPARED TO OTHER ENGINES FOMOCO HAS BUILT? LOL!!
@@sorryimajerk735 i up graded my oil pump drive rods in all mine to arp just for the added peice of mind. I trust that way more than any belt trying to live in a patroilium based lubricanted hot engine. . They could have stuck with the crank driven oil pump and not created another potential big issue down the rd. But that just me looking at since I do all my own maintenance.
@@sorryimajerk735 this variable oil pump is garbage.....I hope they make an upgrade soon. Several of our fleet trucks have failed. 1
20,21,and my 22 is making noise in the valve train ... It's a rube Goldberg pos setup.
How can these 7.3 be converted to flex fuel just a tune or does it need new injectors ?
The fan saga cracked me up. Y'all need the Marco air hammer kit. Makes life alot easier.
Put the phazer delete in and you will be able to tune it stable. It's a BEAST!! Turbo
That thing is a monster
BTR makes a pretty nice one. 50hp over stock
Very excited to see the progress with the engine! 👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸
sounds like my old cammed mustang. this is fords first ever variable pushrod v8.
Respectable numbers the block and bottom end is under no Strain seems like a good power and torque curve. With longevity in focus.
DANG, THAT FAN IS HUGE. IS THERE A GOOD ENOUGH ELECTRIC FAN ON THE MARKET FOR THAT TRUCK.
Great Video. WOW! the final results.
Question on the 7.3L Godzilla.
My truck is in the Ford shop after a problem with starting and cam shaft codes plus a few more codes.
They say that the Camshaft Phaser is bad. The Camshaft positioning module was replaced and didn't resolve the issue.
Can you point out in your great video where that phaser is located?
Thank you
Happy New Year
