It all depends on context, is Kylo Ren an experienced Sith Lord? No he’s a cocky- *INJURED* Sith lackey..
Is Rey an experienced Jedi master with decades of experience? No she’s just some bozo from the desert (no spoilers)
They can’t slap sabers like ancient knights of the old republic, they’re just children trying to cut eachother... when understanding if a duel is good or not, you’ve gotta think about *THEM* rather than the company trying to make it “kewl as frick for the fans”

I watched the one that won the contest and this one. It seems like MOST years the ones that have almost zero realism and a lot of dumb gimmicks win. This fight was realistic, didn't have any dumb, forced crap in it, and i actually felt like you two were TRYING to hurt one another with your weapons. Well done and bravo for setting yourself apart from most of the ones that are made!

@@marcallaire2507 right? In what way was any of this choreography realistic or the slightest bit convincing? No way were they even remotely "trying to hurt"each other. • @bharl7226
      @bharl7226 Před 4 lety

@@a_fine_edition2746 yup, totally serious. I've seen worse too, some laughably worse, but that doesn't make this one any better than it is. Specifically, I find this choreography to be mediocre at best because it is so obviously performative. They are very clearly not really fighting, and that's the point. I my opinion, the best choreography is realistic enough and performed well enough to convince me that the characters are actually fighting. In this video, it was painfully obvious that the actors were cooperating carefully to get the moves right without hurting each other. So it didn't impress upon me any of the ferocity and tension they were going for. I couldn't get invested myself because the performers didn't seem as invested as the characters should have been in the life or death struggle they were written into and because the choreography didn't match the established tone of the scene. It just didn't seem real enough for me. Too slow, exaggerated, and drawn out in every move. Seemed like a more cartoony style of fight, which can SOMETIMES work with live action performers, IF it doesn't clash with the tone, which I think it does here.

I'm not even a starters fan, but this was amazing. You told a complete story with no dialogue and just through the fight. It was obvious that second guy, whose lady was killed, was the one with a good heart (and the other guy was the monster in the message at the beginning), because he had the opportunity to kill his opponent but couldn't bring himself to take his life. After that moment from the way they fought it felt like the curly haired guy had a new found respect for him, and when he did kill him, he had a look of frustration and anger like he was tired of fighting in general

It was done. The Jedi who had come for him were eliminated. All traces of them were gone, like leaves in the wind.
And yet he took no pleasure in it. For those men and women who had found him in the forest that morning had once been his brothers in arms. Honourable warriors all, even to the last.
The memories flashed through his head. His old master, teaching him the basics of moving unseen, then dead on his saber, taken from behind.
A young woman he'd once contemplated leaving the order for, the tingle he felt as she touched his hand, then the pain like hot irons as he ran her through.
Last, his best and oldest friend, giving him the confidence to retake his Trial of Strength, then collapsing into his arms, covered in wounds, betrayed and broken.
And so many others. He'd lost count years ago. Every time, he felt bile rising in his throat, but kept it down, kept himself back, told himself it was worthwhile, justified. But this....this hit hard. Harder than his saber as it burned through his gut. The choice had been made.
No cause, no reward, could ever justify the price been paid this day. For a man without honour is a monster within.

I like this trick with destruction of focus. I was reminded of a moment from *"Clone Wars"* by Tartakovsky. In battle on Hypori, K'Kruhk tried to chop off General Grievous' right hand, but cyborg-kaleesh outwitted him - abruptly removed his hand, leaving lightsaber in air for a split second. Jedi didn't have time to focus, for which he paid the price - with left lightsaber Grievous cut K'Kruhk's stomach, and with right, which was again in hand - neck.
*"Destroy my focus!"* - Count Dooku exclaimed when he was training with General. SURPRISE should be on kaleesh's side, and UNORTHODOX actions should complement it.

Tonfas were designed that way to be very effective bludgeoning weapons, yet this one has the power of the sun at the end. That's like making a bullet shoot out of a rock sling when you let it go. Works just as well holding a handle and you don't have to swing it awkwardly like a mad man.

It give's you alot to consider and ponder on. The duel.......not all just regular lightsaber clashing, but also pure force combat....and the expressions!? were they friends? Old rivals? .......just Dope.

I have been a HUGE HUGE fan since you guys did FURY and PRIMAL. Honestly some of the best lightsaber choreography compared to short movies like the Apprentice. What sold me here was the dual-bladed lightsaber merge and you got every bit of that aggressive, primal, rage that comes in that form. I always look forward to seeing another one of your saber videos! Hoping to see a Nagamaki style in here soon as well! Keep up the hard work guys!

Cody Ng That really means a lot man! Thank you for all your support! Honestly, I’m gonna have to look up what Nagamaki style is 😂 but it sounds awesome. I’m definitely open to doing some research on it!

@@MichaelYadvish it's like a pike. 3 extensions with a 16"-24" blade on one end. Used primarily for women back in Japan during the samurai era. They uphold both speed and force when handled correctly. Maybe give that girl in the beginning of this video a fighting chance haha

  • @LazarusGamingandDiscussion

How unfortunate that I missed LLC 2018 😂 I was so excited to see yours after Fury.
I really enjoyed the use of the tonfa-sabers. (I mean really?? That's such a cool idea!!) I'm a sucker for different types of saber weapons, I guess.
    Anyway, keep it up, bro!

2:34 He could’ve finished the duel right there instead of sparing him, because of that, it’s his biggest downfall to death and that’s a sin…

We didn’t get much of the tonfa blade after Maris Brood. Really should’ve, because they could be a very interesting and effective lightsaber variation. So this video is cathartic to me. And who knows? Maybe we’ll get a character with them in the future. Maybe in Fallen Order 2? Make an interesting Inquisitor fight.
