"Scene 38 ReImagined" is about the final confrontation between Ben Kenobi & Darth Vader in "A New Hope" nearly 20 years after the events of "Revenge Of The Sith." This is a one-off story driven scene reflecting the characters in its chronological order from the point of Revenge of the Sith through Rebels, Rogue One, and all canon material leading to A New Hope.

That shiver in his voice is the féar that Vader always had of Obi-wan: He was right, again! Vader won the fight, but Obi-wan, bested him, one last time! Vader realized that his old Master would haunt him forever!

I was a kid, like 6 years old, at the time (1977) and I remember how scary Vader was as you see him in the movie. Seeing him like this would have been terrifying! The Vader I remember was generally calm and very intimidating. This Vader for more malevolent!

In the OG version. It was like two masters wich knew every move of each other stand where fighting. Like Anakin knew hat could go wrong if he underestimate him. Obi was old so no fancy fighting like in movie 3. And fear that his padawan is now stronger than him.

Vader's power walk will never not be terrifying. The way he moves in general just convinces me that's a man that was burnt and left to die by his opponent 19 years before. All that boiling hatred is perfectly portrayed here.
Remember the devastating pain in Padme's face when she saw Vader for the first and last time on Mustafar? I finally felt the exact same pain while watching this remake. Seeing Vader so completely consumed by hatred that he would walk through flames and explosions to get to old Ben. Hearing Obi-Wan's and Anakin's ep3 lines played, harkening back to brighter times. The death and destruction wrought on the entire galaxy. All, because of one insidious man. You're reminded of all of that in this one scene.

I had this old book about all the lightsaber fights in Star Wars. The original was the one that this scene remastered was the only one that was labeled as "Legendary". So of course at the time, the amazingly choreographed and beautifully scored Duel of the Fates was only "Notable", which really irritated me. They didn't even do much in the original fight, they just kinda stood there, and touched lightsabers.
If they were gonna choose one fight to make legendary, they could've chosen a much better fight, but if it had been a lot more like this I would've had fewer complaints.

The duel is similar in many ways, with Vader cutting the side of the wall nearly chopping Obi-Wan, and in the end, he still cuts him down as Obi-Wan basically gives up in either version after being cornered

Considering the amazeing Mustafar duel and now thier duel from the Obi series this duel makes so much more sense than the original. Darth got beat in their first duel, thought he would crush Obi in the second as a now full blown Sith but instead got embarrassed and again left on a planet unable to fight back. THEN had to wait another 15 years for the chance. Makes sense that Darth would not underestimate Obi again and is absolutely ferocious and Obi, though old, know he won't survive this time. This duel version is Canon in my mind.
As someone who is just re-watched the original Star wars trilogy and finally finished the sequel trilogy I can proudly say that this is good

@@franziskanerweissbiersfasf8145 No not really, Vader had lost to obi wan before on mustafar almost killing him. Now he's very cautious and maybe somewhere even a bit scared/hesitant to duel with his old master again as to not suffer another defeat. He knows full wel what obi wan is capable of

I like how Obi Wan is clearly trying his normal defensive, wait for an opening style too, only for it to Vader to pretty much muscle through it with his force powers and raw strength.

I love how this reimagining show's the last echoes of the jedi Obi Wan once was leaving him from 3:59 onward. I'm not sure if it was his age catching up with him, or the guy finally coming to accept his fate, or both, but the change in demeanor is portrayed so well. He's still fighting with all he has, but Vader's assault is too much. Vader may not be capable of the heights he would have risen too with his limbs intact, but hatred fuels the Dark Side, and I have no doubt that was all he could feel from the moment he saw Obi Wan.
And so the attacks just keep coming, and we see something historical, something that to my knowledge has almost never happened to Obi Wan in a 1-on-1 fight with an opponent (at least, an opponent with the normal amount of arms): he gets in a bind, and it ends with him completely exposed. This is the guy who basically reinvented form 4, and he just got absolutely trounced here. Vader goes in for the kill, winning *another* bind against the "Master of Soresu" but Obi Wan expends the last of his energy to push him back, just buying the smallest amount of time.
And then this shot, oh dear god this shot at 4:37 is perfect. They both know Vader's won, they both know that their long history is about to end, and despite it all it seems that Obi Wan has accepted that better than Vader, the very one orchestrating it.
The fight tells the whole story between these two better than alot of the licensed media does.
don't forget that he slashed the shoulder after the first bind and also slashed Obi-Wan's thigh after winning the second bind. Actual historical european swordsmanship on display at the end.

They would be floored for most of it, except when we hear their younger voices in a sort of flaskback they would be slightly confused. Although, it would come full circle even more with the ending of episode 3.

Yeah, this fits in with the lore better too. At this point in the timeline, Darth Vader had been in so many lightsaber duels during the clone wars and purge that in the EU, it was generally accepted that he had become the greatest lightsaber duelist to ever live. The only reason Luke was able to survive his duels with him was that Vader was never interested in killing him.
Then there was Ahsoka who said she wouldn't leave him, and Ezra snatched her from another plane of reality. Vader forefeits revenge outta confusion lol

I appreciate this edit; while not seamless, it is a nice way to thematically tie their duel in Revenge of the Sith with their final reunion in A New Hope.
Also, the way it was, it kind of looked like two grandpas carefully fencing, rather than a fight to the death. lol

This is how Lucas probably imagined what the fight would look like if he had the effects back then.
Per an interview he did, Lucas imagined lightsabers as being *heavy* energy swords. I don't think this kind of dueling was initially a part of how he envisioned it, but I'm happy it developed this way.
