RTE World Cup 2010 - England vs Slovenia post match analysis

  • Had to edit out both of the interviews and the footage of the Slovenia chances as the video would just be blocked.
    It seems that the BBC watched a different game to the boys in the RTE studio, certainly Gabby Logan did, anyway.

    Giles is right - the way the English media have been talking one would think England beat Slovenia 6-0! They looked a little better than in the USA & Algeria games, but not by much. Dunphy can be very negative at times, but he's right here.
    It's incredible after three lacklustre performances the tabloids are talking like England only have to show up to beat Germany.

  • @Fezziekid

    In fairness, they all said in a previous analysis that they would love to see England winning the thing, and there's an English colour commentator during the games (Trevor Steven, I think).

    3:23 spot on analysis from Ronnie Whelan, england need to improve vastly f they are to go any further in this competition and what happened, they didn't improve at all against Germany and were desevedly beaten and were lucky to only concede four.

    Some of you accusing them of being anti English obviously haven't seen these guys talk about a bad Irish performance. There's no sugar coating or glossing over the problems. They rip the fuck out of the Irish as much as any team. Saying it as it is, which the BBC and ITV are INCAPABLE of doing. God forbid the BBC/ITV should insult anybody! At least this is punditry without the gestapo looking over your shoulder. Would choose this any day to the fairytale world of Gary Lineker and co.

    basically england need to build up a strong contingent of young players that can either stay in the premiership or ply thier trade abroad. if you look at some countries' leagues thier young stars or prospects on occasion leave for a different league to compete with the best and prosper. also, the coach of england (whoever it is at the time of 2014/2018 etc.) should be looking to build his squad not just on names alone, but on the skillset and role that each player can provide for the team.

  • @ashleymarks
    @ashleymarks Před 14 lety +1

    as an England fan - am i the only one who think these Irish have a point? It was a pretty rubbish performance I thought. We scored only once, had a few decent chances but also almost conceded. It was Slovenia - not Germany. The Irish's last point is that we need to improve. Well - we do if we want to have any chance against Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Spain. etc because based on even this improved performance - we will lose to the Germans. No doubt about it. Sorry for being a downer!

    1 decent performance by England maybe 2 since 1970 in The World Cup Finals - Germany SF 1990 and Argentina 1998 last 16, both of which they lost, Otherwise Mediocre in the extreme 1982-2010 Incl. REMEMBER England OUT of World Cups for 12 years and the FACT of THE MATTER is that The rest of The World Passed them out in the Sphere of International Football. A little excitement in 1982 when they beat France but in reality it was a one-off.1990 Belgium and Cameroon were Superior. Wimps 2002 2006.

    Good, yes; clever, no. Talented, yes; insightful, no. Skilful, yes; ruminative, no. Whenever England exit a major tournament there is always the false allegation that the players are overrated: it is not true. They are, however, easily out-thought. That is what happened at Bloemfontein on Sunday. Germany thought about the game and England did not. Miroslav Klose said he knew his team-mates had the beating of England within six minutes.

    what bugs me most about this, as a human being, is how some english fans watching this immediately conclude that ALL Irish people are bitter and jealous 'cunts'.These guys would make ANYONE annoyed, with their exaggerated statements (its not racism cos they do the same with Ireland). I was annoyed with this clip as much as any English person, it is by no means TYPICAL of Irish people. Dunphy is notorious for taking extreme views to wind pple up, & does'nt really believe what he's saying here.

    Fact of the matter is SIMPLY THIS - The English Premier League is way OVERATED. Indeed when you look at the World Cup - Most of the Goals scored are coming from Players that Play in La Liga. Italy although Out still got 4. England so far have 2 - PATHETIC! Higuain Forlan Villa Fabiano and more - Play in La Liga. Indeed the premier league players are struggling for goals whether its injuries or not. No wonder Fabio wanted Scholes at 36!

    reading some comments there - how pathetic! Stick to the subject which is football - no place for all this racism BS. The RTE panel try to take an objective view - but they ham it up a bit especially dunphy. But looking at Gabby Logan on the Beeb made me laugh, SKY also with andy gray and keys from LIVE ON SKY SPORTS FROM LA. England ain't that bad but they aint that good either.
    I dont think its been great comp so far. bit like 2002, infighting and surprise teams goin thro, big names out.

  • @Baltimora1975
    @Baltimora1975 Před 14 lety

    This really made me laugh. It clearly shows the lack of knowledge about football in Ireland. A fact underlined that they didn't even get to the finals - let alone to still be in it for the last 16. Ok, the Irish got down to a play off but still couldn't even beat the worst side at the World Cup.
    And I still can't believe some people are still harping on about the "colonial" English. You need to bring your political AND sporting views into the 21st century.
