Dunphy claiming Neymar isn't world class. What an embarrassment he is. The lad is 22, less than a third of the age of Dunphy, and he has already carried more hope and expectation than Dunphy could dream of. The reason Brazil struggled yesterday is because Neymar struggled. The team is poor I agree with that, but the notion that Neymar isint world class is ridiculous. At international level, Neymar has scored 35 goals and got 20 assists in 53 games. That's a phenomenal stat. I have never seen so much weight placed on one lad's shoulders, but of course Dunphy can't even relate to than.

Just because dunphy was never a good player doesn't mean he can't have an opinion on whether Neymar is world class. That's like saying you or me can't say Tom Cleverley isn't world class because we're not professional footballers.
I agree with you though that Dunphy is wrong and Neymar is certainly a world class player though.

In terms of the squad, yes, it is the worst Brazil team in history? It was all about Neymar who carried the Selecao on his back before his injury against Colombia.
The 2014 squad absolutely had no depth behind Neymar and their defense was shaky throughout the tournament.
The other five Brazil FIFA World Cup champions? They had depth surrounding their stars like the Three Rs and Kaka and had a solid defense led by Cafu and Roberto Carlos.

It's the beginning of 2018, and my daddy (or maybe he's my uncle), John Giles, was right: Neymar has turned out to be a very good player, but no Messi.... well, that was an easy call... Who can be another Messi? At least Brazil 2014 gave World Cup fans another unforgettable memory, even if it was at Brazil's own great expense! The Mineirazo will go down in legend as an epic debacle (it should also erase the memory of the Maracanazo). Anyway, Brazil should do better in Russia this summer... but that's an easy call, too.

Finally a properish review of that horrible game. You know it has been a year but as a staunch Brazil supporter, it still haunts me to this day. I kind of knew that Brazil will be humiliated when I looked at that squad. Here's how I think Brazil truly messed up: 1) Luiz Phil Schlari's selection for 2014 world cup was truly awe full to say the least. You choose guys like Fred, Jo, Dante etc and you don't choose Miranda, Filipe Luis, Philipe Coutinho, Roberto Firminho and Diego Alvez ? I mean you are preferring a third choice goal keeper over a world class goal keeper? 2) Phil Scholari's squad selection for the semi final was even more messed up. Germans are very dominating in the midfield and always like that possession game, so if you don't have a world class squad, you have to play a defensive game with your midfield stacked up.
    A (4 - 2 - 3 - 1) was not a good formation for that game. They shouldve played 4 - 3 - 3 with this squad:
    Hulk
    Oscar Willian
    Ramires Luis Gustavo Fernandinho
Marcelo Dante David Luiz (C) Maicon
    Julio Cesar
This Squad is based on the selection scholari made for this World Cup. Even though I dont agree with his choice of selections for the world cup, but If he made the right selections for this match, it could've been a better one. In this squad there are 3 defensive midfielders that allow David Luiz to move forward without any worry because luiz gustavo usually moves back to support defence. Marcello wouldve been supported by Ramires that wouldve allowed marcelo to move forward freely. Willian is another hard worker that came on at the 70th minute mark but it was too late .. he wouldve supported maicon that wouldve allowed maicon to move forward. Oscar SHOULDVE been started on neymars position because thats the place he couldve made a difference in. And hulk is there for fred because hulk wouldve made a million times more difference. Goal keeper stays the same. If scholari carefully assessed his options, the game against germany wouldve been less embarasing and Brazil couldve actually given the germans a stern test. Finally, This was how the brazil squad shoudve been in the 2014 world cup:
    Firminho
    Neymar Hulk
    Oscar
    Luis Gustavo Fernandinho
Filipe Luis Miranda Thiago Silva Danillo
    Diego Alvez
I could Almost Guarantee you that brazil wouldve won with this squad with the right luck, and ofcourse neymar and thiago silva being included in squad. Blaming the result on the outtage of neymar and thiago silva is utterly BS because you have to be ready no matter what. When your main player/s go out, you make appropriate changes to squad and make appropriate tactical changes to cope with the loss of the main player/s.
I hope Brazil win Copa America this year in order to Restore their pride. Even if they don't win, I firmly believe in Dunga to get most OUT of the Brazilian squad. You will not see this sort of than embarrassing result with Dunga.

Dunga crashed out in the Q final in 2010 with a much better squad than Scholari. The fact Scholari was able to get the worse Brazilian team in history to a semi final should be applauded. That being said, his squad selection was his fault. The Brazil team of 2010 was aging even then but they still should've done better than Q final. Dunga has got nothing on Scholari

Dunphy didn't mention at age 22, Neymar has already scored more goals than Ronaldinho for the Selecao.
Considering the likes of Fred and Paulinho make the team every week, it would seem as if Neymar is single handedly carrying this Brazil side, with the expectations of an entire nation on his very own shoulders.
Concerning his 100m valuation, firstly Barca didn't even pay half that much for him, and secondly in the modern football world, where Gareth Bale is worth 100m euros, I would say 100m is an undervaluation for a talent like Neymar.
