  • Some relaxing drifting done again on Circuit Meppen. Not as smooth as some other laps, but one of the rare laps where I managed to stay sideways for the whole run.

    Where'd you by that suede wheel cover with GR cut out? Ive been looking for something like it.

      @swerve.racetrack  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Hey,
      It’s actually not a cover. The steering wheel has been reupholstered, because I found it to be too thin for my personal preference.
      So the company added a bit of tickness and while we were at it put on Alcantara. It’s a bit of bigger operation (in the sense you can’t do it at home really) and cost me around 400€ in Germany :)

    Interesting, I was told that the traction control isn't fully off in the 'track' mode - like when you have the dash layout as shown. I was told that pressing the other button is the only way to have it fully 'off' but then you don't get the other dash layout

    • @swerve.racetrack
      @swerve.racetrack  Před 2 měsíci

      Hmm. Maybe the other person was talking about the BRZ? Because in the GR, at least in Germany that is, you get this "sport" Layout whenever you are in Track Mode or ESP off mode. Only when all systems are engaged does it show the classic round instruments. (I would actually prefer them in ESP Off Mode, but that's another story :))

    Hi, what tyres do you use?

    • @swerve.racetrack
      @swerve.racetrack  Před 5 měsíci

      Hey :)
      Front Tyres are the stock Michelin PS4 (215/40/R18)
      And rear are called Triangle Sportex (same size as front). They do offer less grip than the PS4, but i would be happy with even less grip ;)

      It’s been reupholstered by a company in Germany. They took off the leather and put on the microfiber. Takes a couple of hours and cost me around 400€. :)

      Yeah it is kind of a risk to do it like that (with nor reward as well :D).
      The car ist fully stock, except that I am running cheap tyres on the rear for drift events. :)
      Suspension is also stock, but it has received a standard alignment from a normal Toyota dealership in Germany, because the steering was a bit off when the car was brand new.

      @@swerve.racetrack I'm not an expert but I noticed in one of your videos you're getting a lot of understeer. Have you considered increasing the (negative) camber in the front as the first mod? You could do it cheaply with some camber bolts and/or pedders top hats.

    • @swerve.racetrack
      @swerve.racetrack  Před 6 měsíci +2

      That is a very good point! There is certainly understeer and it shows on the front tyres as well. In the next month I will have a talk to a workshop who prepare cars for trackdays and it’s gonna be on the list of talkpoints, because I am also no expert. Apparently, some camber bolts didn’t work on other GRs. But when the car gets lowered that will add some camber. I might as well go for a proper coilover set all together we will see.

      @@swerve.racetrack not sure where you are getting the information that camber bolts don't work well, they work great. They'll give you about -1.2 to -1.7 deg of camber on the front. Helps the car out a ton. Great driving btw! keep it up.

  • @DrNecroid
    @DrNecroid Před 5 měsíci +3

    Very nice driving! I will give you an unpopular opinion - start learning to let go off the wheel during transitions and catching it at the right time. It will make the drifts look more chill and transitions smoother 🙂 ( also less chance of tankslapper)

      Thank you very much!
      About the steering technique:
      So far for me keeping the hands on the steering wheel has worked kind of fine, because I retain the feel of full control all the time. ( I am not that experienced yet) Also because I focus to have the hands on the same sport throughout the lap, I always know exactly how much steering angle ist still left.
      When I did some rides alongside with pros in real drift cars, they all let go of the steering briefly during transitions, so yeah.
      Not sure which is best, might be personal preference as well. :)

    • @onehorsepower
      @onehorsepower Před 5 měsíci +1

      Drift cars have different geometry that basically makes the car self-steer so you can just let go of the steering in transitions. On a stock GR86 this effect probably isn't strong enough to let go...

    • @freestyleiceskater
      @freestyleiceskater Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@onehorsepower The Gr86/GT86 actually has really good self steer. The advice is very valid for this car. I drifted a gt86 for 3 years and it hardly needs any steering input to keep control.
      I have some video's from me in my 86 on my channel.
      Holding onto the steering wheel for feel of control is indeed something people learn when going to racetracks. But that is where you stay within the grip level and will not need this much steering motion.

    • @swerve.racetrack
      @swerve.racetrack  Před 4 měsíci

      @@freestyleiceskater I just watched some of your vids. Very smooth and good to enjoy! Are you still doing drifting? In March we are going to try to da a Driftday at Nürburgring again. Although they renewed the large circle and that now has a lot of grip. I certainly try to work on letting go off the steering, as it does add smoothness.
