It was YOUR Dad, not theirs. If you want people there to know that you are mourning, then do whatever is customary. Otherwise do what you feel. A color of clothing doesn't change the fact thay your loved one is gone

It's good you are moving on.Where is this spot, Dela? YWhen you wear black you are doing that for the deceased, my dear. Its probably for about 40 days or so. Those who see you in black will mourn with you in solidarity. They will comfort you and help you through. If not, some may see it as uncaring.. In some cultures, sons and daughters shave their heads when parents pass away. Tradition tradition tradition

Do you. Mourning ans black is NOT necessary. My sister required mourners to NOT wear black at her funeral and during. bereavement. We had a wonderful bereavement period and the lack of black was welcomed. We all miss her but wearing black is NOT necessary.

When one of my older sibling died 2 years ago noone wore black. That was her wishes. She left money to have a party on her. We invited all her friends and played reggae music. She loved the clubs. We had a ball. It was like being at the club. She use to take me clubbing with her. There were no crying at the funeral. We celebrate her the way she lived.
I see more people requesting that people not wear black to their funeral.
You already mourn your dad for 7 days and wore black. Life goes on if you feel it's time to move on then it is. Don't live to please others with rules that makes no sense.

Culturally you wear black till at least after the funeral. Those that say to wear what you want do not understand cultural expectations with regards to mourning. I would also minimise public exposure of “fun” such as romantic getaways whilst your dad is yet to be buried. I know that it’s time away from all the sadness but showing this publicly minimises your grieving and would be frowned upon by the community. That’s my humble advice.
In other words she should pretend and be a hypocrite. We are very good at that as Africans 😂😂😂
@@brownbabygirl When Queen Elizabeth died, our nation (the UK) went into a period of mourning. TV presenters wore black. Members of the royal family wore black. Entertainment on tv was minimised and the mood of the nation was tempered. This is what mourning is about and is for a period of time (not forever). It is not an African thing or a hypocritical thing. It’s called grief and mourning and cuts across nationalities, races and cultures. I have lost both parents and I have mourned too as a British Ghanaian. Some of the things that I didn’t understand, I recognised that it wasn’t about me but rather about appropriate behaviour, tribute and respect to my mum and dad. The last thing I wanted was to draw attention to anything that I would do that would offend members of the community that my parents were proud to be part of and of which I too love.

I have had friends and family members request we don’t wear black and have as much fun after they pass. Mourning is a very personal thing everyone copes differently. These cultural demands cause people unnecessary psychological stress, at a time when it is already difficult for the person dealing with grief. Who are you to judge??? Why does a person need to signal to you they are grieving??? It’s nothing to do with you !!! The sooner we rid ourselves of damaging cultural traditions the better.
