Douglas Murray and His Continuing Fight against the "Madness of Crowds”

A little over 18 months ago, we interviewed author and columnist Douglas Murray about his then new book The Madness of Crowds: Gender, Race and Identity. That show was one of our most-watched interviews of 2019, so we thought it was time to sit down with Douglas again and get an update on where things stand with regard to, as Douglas describes in his book, “the interpretation of the world through the lens of ‘social justice,’ ‘identity group politics’ and ‘intersectionalism’ . . . the most audacious and comprehensive effort since the end of the Cold War at creating a new ideology.” We also discuss European politics, examine Boris Johnson’s tenure as UK prime minister, and take a sobering look at American politics from the perspective of a very sharp observer.

I really hope your right about our country being saved. But I wouldn’t be so fast to think being 70 is sparing you from seeing the near fatal collision we could be in store for, at least in the USA where the epicenter is and which I live in. You see,!Things can change quickly. Exponentially quickly......if historical examples have anything to show us just how fast

Frankly most people think reasonably or somewhat moderately like this. We are talking about political minorities that control the media, and corporations that bend the knee to communist Chinese views for money, and thus control the perception. It's reaching a boiling point where more and more people are realizing what this is, I feel, but a lot of damage has already been done/continues to be done. Many people have left the woke movement and continue to do so in increasing numbers, after they realize it has become a pseudo-religion (and especially after their city gets burned down).

It's an imaginary feeling that they are sating because they have no right to seek retribution often on the behalf of people that are no longer alive and didn't bequeath their feelings as a legacy.

It is a joy to hear someone present what is so obviously true so eloquently. I'd consider a counter-argument here. Ever considered 'they' don't consider themselves as fighting against any fixed 'truth' but rather they may be coming from the point of view that the 'truth' they are being fed is a creation of systems/hierarchies/people over time and are subject not only to change but should be reset and reinvestigated in a 'progressive' manner?
Its not a new thing, itsa pretty old concept going all the way back to before the Bolsheviks but here it is. It's that process is actively taught in the Universities at the undergrad level and given terms like 'post-modern' and 'progressive' and young students with very little grasps on the traditional concepts they have just been exposed to are then told to deconstruct them and subject them to dogmatic screening for acceptance into the good graces of their peers.

Isn't is interesting that "conveniently" just when people were getting along, certain "fragile and volatile groups" have been spurred to action and the coals of discomfort have been stoked into flames of dissention? Those who believe this is happenstance are confused and those that think it is the natural order are truly lost.

Tomboys are simply girls who enjoy the company of boys and young men as well as the sports over dealing with gossiping drama addicted girls. They usually only have one or two female friends that can easily relate to them and that are not like the other girls. Tomboys don't all want to be boys, they simply enjoy their logistical mindset, their fun personalities.

    Several thoughts on this interview
    1. Peter Robinson's preparation for these interviews is outstanding. He actually reads the books, asks great questions and has the perfect mix between speaking/listening.
    2. Douglas Murray has the magical ability to take the issues that we know are wrong but we don't have the ability to accurately articulate the problem.
    3. In this Woke world of cancel culture, you have to give Murray a great deal of credit for speaking out. His harsh views on BLM, George Floyd and big tech companies takes a tremendous amount of courage.
    4. The only issue I have with Douglas Murray is latest conversations are too much on LGBTQ. I want him to speak more about US race issues, biased world media and the wokeness of major corporations.

I fully agree with Douglas on his last point. We have to start doing things ourselves and not waiting for a sort of hero, a leader, a messianic figure, whatever you want to call it, to come along and save us from ourselves. Another great interview of Peter as always! I love the Peter and Douglas conversations the most, very insightful and interesting.

Very good. I loved this. I was, and still am at age 52, a real tomboy. I have a very masculine outlook and way of thinking. Never felt comfortable being 'girly'. I 'grew up' to be bisexual and clearly physically female. Growing up now, I am horrified to think that some boyish girls will be convinced by peer groups that they are in fact trans. It's absolute nonsense. No one can be 100% sure of their sexuality and gender until much, much, MUCH older

Whenever I listen to Douglas Murray speaking about the current state of America and the West, I am reminded of the words of author Theodore Dalrymple (a.k.a Dr. Anthony Daniels):
“Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is in some small way to become evil oneself. One's standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to.”

We all become slightly unbalanced mentally - not exactly ill, but not normal either: suspicious, mendacious, confused and inhibited in our speech, at the same time putting on a show of adolescent optimism. After studying the Holy Scriptures for 50 years, I feel like I'm on solid ground because I stand on the solid rock Jesus Christ. All my family left Christ after schooling in university and turned to Marxism. I am 73 and sad for this world but pray and stand up for God's Truth. I just won't leave Him. He's my hope, consolation and my Savior. I'm am a sinner, flawed and groping for true love, honesty and truth. Dear Lord Jesus, have mercy on us.
