  • Recorded in Selma, California, on May 11, 2023.
In this second and final installment of our conversation with Senior Fellow Victor Davis Hanson, we cover his writing process for his books and columns, examine how “World War II” has earned that name, and preview his upcoming book, The End of Everything: How War Becomes Armageddon, which offers four cases studies of civilizations that collapsed. Additionally, Professor Hanson discusses why Silicon Valley may be the most powerful political force the world has ever seen, outlines the future of the Republican Party and the Conservative movement, and explains how Donald Trump has changed both institutions forever. Finally, Victor (as he insists we call him), looks at the 2024 presidential race as well as US immigration and makes some surprising observations about his own life and career.

I appreciate how Peter understands instinctively which things need to be explained. Many of his guests are expert in a topic have enveloped themselves in that topic that they cease to be aware when they are using terms that might only be understood by people in their own Circle, even factoring for good general knowledge and education. And then he explains it in a way that doesn't make us feel belittled.

I'm 72, soon to be 73. I understand Victor's point of view. He and I were kids that stood and pledged allegiance to the US flag every morning at the start of school. We are the children of the Greatest Generation that share the values taught to us at home and at school. We are the youth that were inspired (or shamed) by Martin Luther King's dream of his children being judged byy the content of their character and not by the color of their skin. We've watched the steady dissipation of our country since 9-11 and the advent of that sinister plague named Obama. Victor wants strong leadership to emerge; I am concluding that it won't appear.
Ayn Rand said it best, ""When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion, when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing, when you see money flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors, when you see that men get richer by graft and pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you, when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice, you may know that your society is doomed."

Wow, wow! Holy guacamole what a life story. If you don't mind my asking, how did he do with the rest of his life? Raising you and marriage. I mean, I don't think anyone would be surprised to hear he was an angry cynical, raging alcoholic and who could blame him but, it would nice and give hope to many to hear he found strength in faith and walked away from all of that and never looked back. I don't mean to pry. Just curious that if he went on to lead a semi-normal productive fulfilling life, HOW? I can't imagine. I have faith but, still. That is an AMAZING story and I hope he found peace after.

The Aristocratic Class had to denigegrate the middle class to assuage their guilt over decimating their communities when they moved all the manufacturing jobs out to Asia. They had to "other" them. In order to still have a victim group to champion, a reason to vote for the very same people who helped move all those jobs away. They re-used the Race Card from the 60s. But Black population alone isn't a large enough group to make up for the white middle class they lost. The Black population percentage hadn't really increased in 50 years. Still 12-13%. Likely due to abortion centers in low income black majority areas and the persuasion campaign of acceptance & benefit. So they included every race other than white. Indian, Hispanics anyone who had a darker skin color as a marker of belonging. A tribal identifier if you will to band the group. Concurrent with this was adding the LGB class. When the goal of marriage was ruled in the Supreme Court it shocked them. They were not anticipating successful so quickly they needed another goal, another victim group to carry the victimization banner. So Trans people were added into the intentionally imprecise designation of "systemic repression" victimization status.

I know people will who lived in the Central Valley, all the small towns doted throughout used to be full of Germans and swedes, no crime and amazing places to live. Now they are full of Hondurans and families from Honduras qnd Mexico. There's crime graffiti and gangs everywhere and all those of European descent are fleeing with 95% of the farmland being owned by large corporations who love cheap labor and don't live in the neighborhoods they are affecting. The neighborhoods now have American flags replaced with Mexican flags and bulldog gang members. If you don't know much about the Central Valley you should look up the Bulldogs and see what mass unlimited immigration led to.

Dr. Victor Davis Hanson and his grasp on history, and especially how we can draw upon it is phenomenal.
I hated to see it come and a conclusion. There's so much more that this humble gentleman and patriot can help us with. His intellect and understanding makes him an American treasure.
There should be a series of conversations with Dr. Hanson and Mr. Robinson is the perfect conduit.
    May GOD bless

Dr. Davis Hanson is always so intelligent and articulate on so many topics. He explains things in ways that are understandable and thorough. Can you imagine his mind at work if he was the President? Unfortunately he wants to slow down, but we need his wisdom to continue so that sanity can be conveyed.

I had to stop and comment regarding Dr. Hanson speaking about his efforts in clarifying the value of Sherman Tanks. For someone to simply think beyond is very valuable. Valuable for themselves and everyone else. Thank you sir for helping guide minds to experiencing more. That truly is a gift and I appreciate the effort.

VDH is one of the most honest, humble, knowledgeable commentators alive today. He’s a truth teller. Unfortunately, the truth is depressing and frightening.

I barely finished high school, I never attended college. With Hoover Institute & guests such as Victor Davis Hanson, I have been EDUCATED. Plus, many other scholars, scientists and thought leaders have increased my interest and peaked my mind. Victor Davis Hanson has the tenacity of sharing, passing along his great knowledge and wisdom. political analysis and most noticeably is his influence having an abundance of rare true humanitarianism!

I was a history student, and still stay tuned to it. I thought at the time I had a good history teacher. But I have never had a great mind as Mr. Hanson, according to his style, intelligent, and wisdom - as a teacher of all that is good in making right and moral decisions. Like I said, we need more good men like Mr. Victory Davis Hanson.
